Return of the Jedi is the best of the Star Wars films.

Ask anyone who hates it to name one thing wrong with that movie without using the word "Ewok", and you'll see what I mean. And the Ewoks were, frankly, misunderstood. Almost nobody at the time thought they sucked. People just decided it was cool to hate the Ewoks after they saw the Dante-Randal Star Wars debate scene in Clerks, and after Jar-Jar made people supersensitive to any hint of cutesyness in Star Wars movies.

I agree with this BUT I do despise how they hastily just inserted stock footage of Hayden in there. He feels disconnected from Yoda and Obi-Wan. If they had filmed a clip showing hm looking and smiling at Obi Wan like Sebastian Shaw did, it would have been a lot better.

But when I watch Hayden look up and give his slightly creeper-ish smile directly into the camera, I stop thinking about the movie, and can only think about how that wasn't originally there.

    Lets see:

-Han and Leia are totally underused and misused. They almost completely lack the spark and wit they had in ANH and ESB.

-Boba Fett dies like a punk.

-Cinematography is flat and ugly compared to ESB.

-With the exception of the space battle, the film feels inappropriately small for the supposed epic conclusion of the saga. WE ONLY GO TO ONE NEW PLANET, and we're there for over half the film.

I'm someone who, on the whole, actually really liked ROTJ. I'm sure someone who doesn't could find quite a few more flaws.

    Two more:
    1. Return of the Jedi is the best film in the saga.
    2. I prefer the CGI beak Sarlacc to the original one.

    1. ROTJ is the best film in the Saga
    2. Vader knew about Leia way before the finale. He simply chose to withhold it til Luke was at his weakest
    3. Vader's body disappeared. Only the armour was burned
    4. Boba Fett is a waste of screen time

I love the Duel of the Fates as much as any Prequel luvah, but Rob Roy just so happens to showcase the greatest swordfight put to celluoid. It's the "Odessa Steps" of duels.

I like to think of that final Rob Roy fight as the reverse of the Duel of the Fates. Tim Roth's Darth Maul doesn't come out of it so well. Wonderful buildup.

I'm with JFP in that I worship at the alter of the TPM duel, but they definitely complement eachother in a cathartic way.

Come to think of it, Tim Roth kinda looks like Ray Park. Perhaps MacGregor and Cunningham were reincarnations of Jinn and Maul--respective icons of liberation and imperialism, waging eternal war through the cosmos.

    Neat.

I enjoy the Blu-Ray special editions, even the Hayden Christensen insert in ROTJ. (though I would still like to own the original flicks from the OT)
    I like The Phantom Menace.
    I don't mind midichlorians.
I love pod racers. I'm not sure how unpopular this opinion really is (PT criticism is overstated on the web) but I think the pod races are fun and inventive.
    I don't mind the ewoks.
I don't think Luke or Anakin are particularly whiny. I mean sure a little bit, but it's kind of exaggerated (imo).

Yeah, but unlike classic trash like Plan 9 From Outer Space, TSWHS has always tended to provoke horrified bafflement whenever I've watched it with other people, not hilarity. It's just that awful.

Besides, releasing it officially would remove its only overall redeeming feature - its cult status as the bastard child of the SW franchise, something even George Lucas would rather you didn't see. Make it widely available in decent quality (without 1970s TV commercials, no less) and it'll die forever. Even this hideously deformed mutant shot on glorious 1970s videotape deserves to survive somehow.
Outside the OT itself, it's the only place you'll ever see the Big Three, plus Chewie, Vader & the droids, in the same place in character.

And an elderly Wookiee named Itchy watching soft-core porn. Oh dear.

Hey, I remember this game! Here are some of my unpopular opinions from the temp board:

    - George Lucas is good at writing dialogue.

    - All six episodes are excellent movies.

    - Jar Jar Binks is one of the best characters in the saga.

    - Han Solo is overrated. A great, entertaining character, but overrated.

    - CGI is used sensibly in Star Wars.

    - Hayden Christensen was, and still is, an awesome Anakin Skywalker.

    - The Hayden ghost is preferable to the Sebastian one.

    - The added "No. NOOOOO!" at the end of ROTJ is great.

    - Han and Greedo shooting at the same time does work.

    .- Padmé's death makes sense.

    - Natalie Portman gave an appropriate performance all through the PT.

    - Ewoks rule.

    - The Star Wars movies are finished when GL says they are (Yes, that's still applicable, since they are still his creations)

    - A Saga overhaul where the six episodes receive perfect visual consistency would be fantastic.

    ...and a few additions:

    - A Saga overhaul where all the episodes receive perfect musical consistency would also be fantastic.

    - "Jedi Rocks" rocks.

    - "Victory Celebration" is awesome.

    - CG Sarlacc is preferable to the other, lifeless kind.

    - You must learn the ways of the Force if you're to come with me to Alderaan.
    - I don't want things to change.

First of all, I didn't copy anyone. Those opinions come from me and they are unpopular with the internet loudmouths. I would never assume that they're unpopular out in the real world, but since we're discussing this on the internet...
Second, I'd be very surprised if all of the opinions I listed have been mentioned several times on this thread already.
Third, my post is right above yours. Quoting it was hardly necessary.

    - I truly, deeply love you and before we die, I want you to know.
    - You like me because I'm a scoundrel.

    - I will defend the Gungans til the end of the earth. Interesting race, intruiging technology. Don't tar them all with the Jar Jar brush... Captain Tarpals is awesome.

    This moment is fantastic: [IMG]

    - I see no trouble with the Ewoks or the fact that they assisted in giving the Empire a beatdown.

    - Empire is overrated.

    - Bounty Hunter Leia is hotter than Slave Leia.

    - RotJ is the best of the six.

    - Chewie is totally redundant and serves little to no purpose whatsoever.

(Not sure whether any of these opinions are unpopular anymore/around these parts but they've always been hot topics between me and my friends)

    - I love all six Star Wars movies pretty much equally
    - Jar Jar Binks is not as bad a character as he's made out to be
    - The Gungans and the Ewoks serve their purpose and are no where near as bad as they are made out to be
    - I have no problem with Hayden Christensen's acting or his chemistry with Natalie Portman
    - I don't mind the changes that George Lucas made to the Original Trilogy (though I wish he would release the films like RIdley Scott did with Blade Runner and package all of the versions together)
    - Attack of the Clones looks and feels like a Blade Runner-esque cyberpunk film-noir

    - ROTJ is not a favorite of mine, and yet I love the Ewoks.

    - I prefer the painterly shine of the prequel CG visuals to the OT's practical, used future approach.

    - "Now this is pod-racing" is a moment that is every bit as heroically cool as Han's Death Star assist.

    - Han/Leia romance is just as stylized as Anakin/Padme.

    - ESB has one of the weaker scores in the series.

I like Hayden Christensen as Anakin.
    Lando is annoying in ROTJ
I am sick of R2D2 and hope he does not appear in Episode 7 (even though he will)
ESB is my least favorite of the OT
I am thrilled that Lucasfilms was sold to Disney

Very neat, but I think you have it the wrong way around. Maul is more your icon of liberation and Jinn's an icon of imperialism. Fighting with a green glowy stick is like waving around a TIE Fighter laser. Jinn speaks in a fairly terse manner: all business and utilitarian, like the Empire. Aligned with the state, he's also a classic leg-breaker. And his manner is somehow linked to imperialism generally (a cut like the one that follows Jinn's starchy command, "Head for that outcropping", after subduing the alien companion, which is marked by a wipe to tanks and droids heading for the "outcropping" of Theed, is instructive). Maul, though? Classic liberator. When the good guys have lost their way, the devil is your liberator.

    - I don't like having explicit years in Star Wars. The movies never had them, but I guess to books do, though.
