I don't know what I want to do when I get to York. Maybe a museum or two, definitely shopping and lunch somewhere. One place that has taken me fancy on the York tourism website is the McArthurGlen Designer Outlet York! Mmmm, shopping!

St Nicholas Avenue, Fulford, York, YO19 4TA
Designed outlet offering up to 50% off rrp, with over 115 stores.
Located on the A64/A19 interchange just South of York.
    Parking : free
Public Transport : 4 miles from York station

Coming by train | Go to York Rail Station, then catch a bus straight to the outlet

Coming by bus | The McArthurGlen Red Line park and ride bus runs from the station every 15 minutes. Or take Arriva Yorkshire bus no. 415 from Selby.

Well, I'm not that into bags and shoes, but I love to shop. They say retail therapy is a good thing.

I TOTALLY agree with that! They say blokes dont like shopping - I must be the exception...[face_blush]

McArthur Glenn has a factory shop for The Body Shop products too which is really good value if you use their products.

I don't do that many girly things, but shopping's one of them. I could easily go to the beauty parlour when I'm in York if you like?

The Castle Museum is by far the best IMHO in York - it even has is own replica Victorian street, with shops (no - they wont be open!:p) and a replica of the jail where Dick Turpin, famous highwayman was kept, before he was hung. He was hung in York at what is now the York racecourse. Next to the Castle Museum used to be the York Jail (or York Castle as it was)[face_sick]

    http://www.stand-and-deliver.org.uk/highwaymen/dick_turpin.htm

Guy Fawkes lived in York also for a time, and was born in Stonegate, near to the Minster.

It depends how much time you want to spend in there really - it is one of those places where you could actually spend the entire day in...if you had the time. It is fascinating.

Well, I'll be in Singapore from Sept 17, so it won't be then!

For those who don't know the dates as yet:
Sept 9 or 10 are the days I have put aside for the York visit. And it will only be for the day :( as I already have accomodation booked in London.

    Good news!

Looks like I will be able to get 6 free passes to get into the Minster for this meet (and also the July York meet too, if anyone is interested?).

The passes are given free (on application) to York residents, so my family are happy to give them up for the day. Saving £4.50 per entrant.

This of course means that you will have to practice your local dialect Nat to sound as though you are a true Yorkshire resident

Try this one out for size....say after me 'ecky thump - that's a big un'

Um, can people make Sunday Sept 10 for the meet? I have been invited to the TENCLO premiere, and I wasn;t going to go until the news of possibly a special visitor.
