When the heros are escapeing cloud city why is Yoda's theme playing while they are trying to escape? Yoda isn't there!

Same reason why it plays when Anakin knocks out Geonosians in a factory Yoda has never seen. It sounds good.

Wasn't there another theme someplace else also, that played in the absence of its main purpose?

But in this instance, maybe it's there to show that things have gone wrong now, just as Yoda expected/ foresaw.

or it just sounds good ;)

Yeah, maybe to show that things are going like Yoda said. Also, to show his overall importance to the scenes that are happening and the time Luke spent with him. It's also just an important theme in The Empire Strikes Back.

It`s cool to ad when JW is running low on ideas and it works in those scenes

The same reason why Leia's Theme plays after Obi-Wan's death :p

Wrong. The reason it plays in the factory scene is because AotC wasn't finished in time for JW to score the whole thing, causing some scenes to have horrendously edited cues thrown together from TPM or (in this case) other parts of AotC's score.

Well since it says "Music by John Williams" and not "Music by Kenneth Wannberg's decision", the placement in AOTC is clearly not there for the same reason the theme is played during the scenes in Empire.

My guess is he likes to work with themes and motifs developed for a film and work with them in that film. IN Empire he didn't feel the need to only play Yoda music when Yoda is on screen. I guess that's why he also has Clark Kent's music playing over the destruction of Krypton in Superman - The Movie.

    Ultimately - it is though.

It's there because it sounds good with the moment we see onscreen, it doesn't matter who put it there.
