    Well... I decided to put up a WIP of a diversionary project I decided to involve myself with. There is a new SW fan-film in the early-mid stages of production called Force Legacy (found in the requests thread and fan films forum). I generally don't work on fan films, but when I saw the "released" concept art for this one, I said to myself "You have to model this!"

    Corrin_Wyndryder, is the film maker, and Concept_Artist is the, well concept artist.

    Here are the Concepts that I fell in love with.

    And after, about 11 hours of actual modelling time, here is where I am at.

    [image=http://www.endpointmedia.com/scifi3d/HTest003A.jpg]

    It is currently at about 55k poly's (minus "hole" material poly's), and Wings is still blazing fast. The vast majority of those poly's is found in the cylindrical objects, as one might expect.

    Entirely modelled in Wings3D, rendered in XSI 3.01.

    agreed.

    I'm still stuck in my wings3d doghouse tutorial. Is there no "undo" function in this crazy program?

    Undo function? what's that? j/k Ctrl-Z for undo/redo last, Ctrl-Alt-Z for undo history... just like Photoshop :)

    Thank you for the kind words guys. I will probably post an update late tonight or tomorrow.

    nice work, but why using wing 3d when you have XSI?

    Thanks guys...

    Why Wings3D--->

    because wings is IMHO the hands down, best modeller/workflow... just a preference thing... but nearly 85% of my modelling is done in Wings. Sure I go into XSI for doing some quick curve lofts, revolutions and booleans... but I almost always take it right back to wings.

    Now on character work (of which I have some but limited experience) I use Wings to make the base level cage... since tweak and virtual mirror is simply fantastic... then take the mesh to XSI for rigging, and the rest of the process.

    If you haven't used it or haven't really given it a real shot... I do recommend seeing if it can fit in your pipeline ( if you have an actual pipeline ;) ). It is so bloody intuitive, it "can" decrease your modelling times significantly.

    Well... quick news flash.

    My laptop just went down... it's hardware related (grrrrrrr!!!!) so for how long, who knows.

    Not to worry, I had just done a backup only hours before so very little was lost... however, it may cause me to spend a little less time than I had planned on this... at least in the short-term.

    Maybe an update tomorrow, but more likely it will be Tues/Wed... we shall see.

    Yeah, unless I'm modeling basic primitives I use Wings 3D for pretty much everything. It is fast, lightweight, intuitive and a breeze to use.

    Do my animation, texturing, rendering and more advanced booleans, lofting, etc... in Carrara Studio 3.

    Aye... it's a pain. Brand new $2600 laptop (well 5 mos old)... but it shouldn't be acting like this for several years.

    Gotta love technology...

    At least you are smart enough to back up!

    Only problem I've had with modeling in Wings is needing to set edges to hard all of the time when exporting. I always forget...

    As for your models, they look great! Can't wait to see them with textures! Helps to start with great concept art to boot. My concept art is all little scribbles...

    Hope you get your hardware issues worked out soon. Be watching this thread for updates!

    Hardware update... the regulator on the mobo for the processor burned out, destroyed the processor, damaged the fan control and shorted out the bios.... blech.

    Warranty!!! Yeah!

    Ah... you mean this isn't a SW Coffee maker... well then I don't know if I can continue working on this... :D

    Yes One-Tea... you are definitely different... but that's okay. I like you, you're funny. I think I'll kill you last. ;)

    Update hopefully coming soon... rendering now. If it's done before I go to work, I post it... otherwise, after 12AM EST.

    Cheers
