Though I plan on seeing this film, (it's got a hell of a cast, features a script co-written by David Ayer, who wrote the screenplay to Training Day), the setting for this is getting a wee bit tiresome. Though featuring a main character with conflict isn't that original to begin with, this movie doesn't have to be set amongst the gang/cop conflict that is constant news/a headache to use who live out here in La La Land. This was the most original idea to be had? :p

I will see this, despite the fact that it's just a rehash of a dozen different films, tv shows with some reality thrown in.

Common can act (ie: Smokin' Aces), but I'm not sure on The Game.

as bad a movie as Waist Deep was, The Game made an excellent villain.

I'll reserve judgment until it's released...I usually rely on word of mouth.

Keanu Reeves is a terrible actor. I'll probably skip this.

Now I'm more interested in seeing the movie: Training Day is one of my favorites.

And what's the big deal about a gang movie in LA again?

I do have an issue with Keanu though, cause I was thoroughly unimpressed by some of his lines in the commercials.

When the quality of a picture in its entirety is placed in jeopardy for name recognition at the box office, the movie will be lackluster. This is true of casting Common and Game in Street Kings. I am sure, at least in Games case, he does have alot of practice at acting "hard". That hardly qualifies him over the laundry list of actors who were turned down in the name of marketing over cinematic value.

"Why Halle have to let a white man pop her to get an Oscar"
"Why Denzel have to be crooked before he took it"
    Jadakiss

There is a difference between giving young talent a chance to blossom, and exploiting young talent to appeal to demographic. We should all be insulted by things like this.

It would be akin to Woody Allen making a movie whoring out his love for NYC: it wouldn't be original.

This one isn't getting good reviews...

Sample: "It will feel mighty familiar to anybody who saw Ayer and Ellroy's previous collaboration, Dark Blue, as this is --almost beat for beat-- the exact same story."

Just got back from seeing Street Kings & I loved it. Was it cliched? Sure. Did it add anything new to the crooked cops/gang life in L.A. saga we see in many movies? No, it didn't. Were the performances by all those involved good, and the movie entertaining? Hell yeah. :D
