Idaho Your President's Alaska Update Thread

For those who don't know, I'm driving up to Alaska for a summer project with Campus Crusade for Christ. I will be stationed in Anchorage and won't be heading back until after August 16th.
I will be posting updates in here periodically from Alaska. I will also hopefully be posting pictures.
Does anyone know how to post pictures?

Hey, if you haven't already, talk to the CR of the Alaska fanforce. I'm sure he could give you advice/help/hints/suggestions, or even have a meet up where you can come!

God is so incredible. Last night I got a call from my church informing me that the remaining $1900 was being paid by them.

I'm SO thankful and humbled. I didn't trust God to provide but here's the support. Right when I need it!

Well, I made it to Grangsville ID. Tomorrow I'm off with brother in Christ Nick to head for Kittias WA and then Seattle. After that, its NORTH, NORTH MRS TESMAUCKER!

But Nick and I still had several good hours of daylight to burn so we called him up and he said it would work better anyway for church things to not stay tonight. I'm now at a quality inn with internet access. Thankfully they had a USB port on their comp so I could send pictures. You'll notice how packed my truck is...literally to the top of the camper shell. Thank God I was able to get that...thanks Rick!

Here's a few from out journey up through Washington and Canada so far. We're in HOPE Canada by the way. If the pics turn out funny its because of this ancient comp!

So we left the Quality Inn and headed up North 97...which becomes the Alaska highway. I saw a moose, a black bear with her two cubs, and a black fox with a silver tail. There were also a lot of deer. Right now I'm staying at the "Ramada" Inn and got an executive suite. Ohhhhh...... I feel so privledged. God has blessed us with some good conversation and Nick seems to be improving over a recent illness.
The drive today was over 12 hours. We're in "Dawson's Creek." NO, not the one from the TV show.
The best part about Canada is the km/hr instead of miles/hr for highway speeds. Man, they want you to drive slow here! The max speed is 100 km/hr and that's only like 62 m/hr! Too slow for my tastes.
Probably another couple days of travel at least. Don't expect an update tomorrow because Nick has really been itching for some camping and I know he'll want to stop off and do that, not to mention he made a good point in that we save a lot of money that way. I've been paying over $60 to fill up my gas tank here! So no complaining down there! Here's some great pictures today. The beauty of the drive was incredible. No wonder Canadians are always so happy.

I didn't think I'd get to send an update tonight, but we checked in to the Caribou hotel. What I didn't know is that we were getting ourselves into a cabin down the street (the only thing available) with four beds, bath, a kitchen and TV!
Sounds a bit strange but after last night and being nearly eaten alive by.....mosquitoes, I figured this was the way to go. Not to mention driving for 12 hours makes ones back and butt very sore, and sleeping on the ground just didn't sound too appealing.
Here's a few pictures to give you an idea of the kind of beauty we've seen in the last few days. It was amazing seeing some of the scenery and the camera truly doesn't do it justice.
We're only 183 miles away. Tomorrow we'll get into town and get oriented, and then project starts the day after. Please pray that I'd get a job soon and that my mail has been forwarding without any problem...I have bills to pay!

Dear Friends,

It has been an incredible journey already up here in Alaska. I've got an
interview scheduled with the Century Movie Theatres for a job Tuesday. Pray
that I'd be able to get the job. We went out on the streets sharing God's
word the last couple of days. There were many interesting responses to the
Gospel. Today at one of the local malls, when I approached two younger guys
and told them they could have a personal loving relationship with God just
by asking Him into their hearts and thanking Him for taking away their sins
through the death of His son, they agreed to pray and recieve Christ right
there! How quicklly your life changes once you've made this simple decision.

The guys in my action group (those I'm sharing the apartment with) are all
incredible guys. I know that we'll be sharing in our friendships long after
project is over...

Kasey, the Office of the Acting President sent the dairy days DVD today. I included a "suprise" bonus on the DVD. You should get it hopefully by this weekend.

Well, Monday marks the first real day of working new jobs for most everyone. I'm betting on this interview going well on Tuesday. Lord willing I guess.
We hooked up Campus Crusades VPU (video projector unit) and watched the original Superman. Classic film...we're watching Superman II next weekend and then going to the new one when it comes out the 28th. It is titled Superman Returns and is a sequel to the first two original and quality Superman films.
Got some interesting pics of some statues in downtown Anchorage. There's a pic of Chris Rodgers our Action group leader.
The pic of everyone in the Suburban is the action team I'm with (the salvation army). From left to right is Ryan, Mike (Heebs), Mike (Iron Mike), Eric (Bazooka Joe) and Elly, one of Chris' children.
Helped the church we'll be attending each Sunday with a huge BBQ for fathers day. We all set up and served hundreds of people. An irish fiddle band played music and it was a fun time. I unfortunately didn't get pics but we'll get some of the church next time.
Expect more in the next week or so.

Jacks." It's an Alaskan giftshop with lots of cool goodies. I've been
working in their mail room, doing register work, and straightening things
out on the floor.

cozy!

Heebs, Mike, Matt, Codi and I all went on a hike together to "Flat Top"
Wednesday night. It was incredible. We saw three moose on the way up. I've

amazing.
