Yoda seems to be ignoring the fact that he let Count Dooku escape in AOTC and allowed the Clone Wars to continue for years instead of simply ignoring the falling pillar and killing Dooku, killing Dooku would have ended that war early on and Palpatine would have been forced to execute Order 66 at that exact moment because of it.

Clearly Yoda made the wrong choice in AOTC is trying to get Luke to remember his mistake earlier, that letting two rebels die would be more acceptable than letting the son of Skywalker get killed or turned to the dark side.

Yoda ignoring that fact? He's basically telling Luke not to make the same mistake that he did, and that is that if you let your feelings get in the way during an important task then bad things can happen. For Yoda, it was the Clone War. For Luke, it was losing his hand and finding out that Vader was his father earlier than intended.

Yoda also quit on his fight with Palpatine. Just b/c he got knocked down didn't mean he couldn't have gone back up and kicked Palp's @$$... b/c it appeared to me that's just what he was doing.

Of course... he had to quit or the rest of the movies would never have happened. ;)

Exactly. Both Mace Windu and Yoda realized that they had made a mistake in not killing Count Dooku when they had the chance. Luke, when he receives the vision, decides to make an impulsive move to save his friends instead of listening to Yoda's advice. Looking back, however, Yoda ends up being wrong. Why? Because eventually the duel made Luke replace his quest for revenge with a burning desire to save his father and bring him back from the Dark Side. But, hindsight is an interesting thing. We can never judge how our actions will affect the future until we've looked back an examined them.

    There is a major difference.
Anakin Skywalker might have been the key to 'winning' The Clone Wars. "The Chosen One" could not be left for dead...Han and Leia did not have this level of galactic importance.

Though he was probably right insofar as defeating Dooku then and there might have ended the war. But it would have screwed the galaxy and left them under the rule of the Sith once Sidious put "If the war fails" Plan B into effect.

What Yoda failed to see was that killing Dooku by then wouldn't have made any difference since PalpSidious is the one playing both sides of the war. Even with Dooku dead, the war will still continue with Palps taking over as leader of the Seperatists and the outcome will be the same as what took place in ROTS. The only difference will be that PalpSidious would have a different apprentice and Anakin won't be alive to impregnate Padme or turn traitor against the Jedi.

"If you honor what they for... yes!"

It's simply said. Luke has grown attatched to Leia,Han and Chewie. He senses their in trouble and let's his emotions get in the way of his training. Yoda knows in the end, Luke is the one who will determine the fate of the galaxy by either destroying Vader and the Emporer, or redeeming Vader. Yoda knows if Luke is to leave, there will be a confrontation between him and Vader which could endanger his progress or leave him killed. Basically Yoda is telling him that if Leia and Han are to die, to not let their deaths be in vain.

Yet he doesn't word it properly.

Basically, this is what he said to Luke from his POV at that moment: Your friends, your best friends in the entire galaxy is about to be killed. Just forget about them.

Had he said: "They would want you to complete your training!",then Luke would probably have reconsidered.

I don't think anything would make Luke reconsider. Like Aunt Beru said, he just has too much of his father in him.

Luke knows that saving them can interfere with his training, but it doesn't matter to him. In his mind, he can always just pick it up again.

when did Yoday let Dooku go? He pulled a cheap shot on Yoda, giving him time to get out before he could have died. Even if Dooku died, you do not think that Sid had another person up his sleave? Yoda being a jedi master and more saw many jedi before and after him fall in battle, and in honor. What Yoda is saying, is that you cannot put them before you, and what you are about. You are a Jedi, and to have them in that high of regard is to have like an idol before you. Yoda was teaching him how a master must think, not a Jedi. Just as a monk as he goes to monestary, he must leave behind everything.

I think Yoda was trying to protect Luke from making some of mistakes he made. He wanted the best for Luke because he knew Luke was their best shot at overthrowing Sidious. The redeeming of Anakin was just iceing on the cake.

What mistakes do you think Yoda did, other than I guess thinking he could take out Sidious? Do you think he could have been to cautious through his career as a master, not pushing on certain points that other Jedi wished to be involved in? Your answer is thought rovoking, and I love it!

I have a different view. I think it was a test. Yoda himself chose anakin and OWK over dooku because he cared about his friends and also knew how important they were. He wanted to test Luke and see if he would make the same decision.

I agree, in AOTC even Windu believed that Anakin could be the choosen one. They couldnt risk loosing Anakin. Howewer, i dont think i could picture Yoda continue to chase Dooku while Kenobi and Anakin get crushed. I dont think he would do that.

    Isn't something missing here.
Yoda could save Obi-Wan and Anakin b/c there were many Jedi to track down Dooku and help end the conflict.

In the OT, Luke was the last best hope for change. Why risk him by encouraging him to walk into a trap albeit to save his friends.

There would have been no son of Skywalker then. Anakin would have been mush.
