Amber at Urban Peak spoke on behalf of Kerry, who is their manager(and who is ill...)& it seems as though they are quite stoked about us holding a raffle and costume contest for the "U.P." I have also made inroads to the corporates at United Artists, and they are hashing out who needs to handle setting up space for the event at 10PM on the 15th of May. They are leaning toward no issuance of reserve ticketing since they have a standing policy against such things for a big premiere such as Episode II, but I'll keep honing them down! Faceplant tells me that several Troopers from the 501st will be in attendance for 'protection', and I believe that Darthhair is looking into a nice, big banner for the event. Jedi Girl is working on a cyber-flyer for the website as well as an paper flyer for circulation (anybody got printing connections!?) We are going to need some serious raffle items to make this a big deal, so if anybody's got any ideas, step up now and don't wait until the last minute....we need to push ticket sales very soon. I'm going to make a couple of tables for the Urban Peak folks, but I could use someone's help in making some SW trim for them(the tables, not the folks), and we still need to get some PA equipment fairly soon, although that is not a huge priority. Input from the group is essential here, folks, even if you don't "want to get involved"....HA! talk at you later!

Wow, Kit, you are going all out on this huh? As for things to raffle. If bobathreat was willing, his helmets/armor work is just plain awesome, if he were to donate I for one would definitely enter the raffle, as would everyone else I'm sure. But of course, I don't speak for him, it's merely a suggestion. I don't have anything that could be raffled off though :( I wish we could get together again and gab about this in person, it would be a lot easier methinks huh?

UH.....what about CARDS!!!!!????? Hehehehe....just dingin' ya, Orion. I would love to wait for our next get-together in February, but I really need to get this busy now, so that's why I'm requesting the items poste-haste! Now, I have to go bug the corporates at UA again....wish me luck!
(Where's my dang armour & blade.....?)

Well, the corporates are in hiding...I tend to do that to people! BUT, I just got off the horn with Kerry at Urban Peak, and they are stoked! I'll be meeting with her & Amber first thing Monday morning, and we'll talk hash....she did point out to me that raffles require a state license, so I suggested as a back-up plan that each of us could front the bread for tickets(one or two teens per group member)to the show for the teens that want to partake....we could still have the costume contest and we could live-auction the would-be raffle items at the line-party without a license. WHAT DOES EVERYONE THINK??????

As Boss Nass said: "Wesa doin's arsa part....!"

Color me impressed. Run with it, Kit. Mega impressed here.

I'd be willing to bet that local comic shops and other places would be willing to donate to the project.

Wasn't Hair or Jen going to talk with them? Just curious.

I'm waiting for a response from Starland. I did post a notice on their Board though.

Did anyone have any luck getting in touch with the people @ Fantastic Media?

I am also trying to get a hold of someone at CreativeForce.com about maybe donating a lightsaber for the cause.

And it doesn't look promising for my guest, but I'm still on it.

I have an autographed copy of the Dark Forces book that I would be willing to part with for the cause.

Today I am going to try to get a response from StarWarsChicks.com.

    Wish me luck,

    -Jennifer

    Kit-

Do you need company for Monday's meeting?

    JO-

Did anyone ask you about talking to your new buddy James Cuhkr? I think it would very cool if he could set up a showing of his works in one of the lobbies @ the Continental.

I thought Faceplant said one of his buddies were good friends with Mr. Cukr. He will be at Starcon or whatever that thing is called. But if you want me to get in touch with him, I will.

I thought I would post a sample of my begging letter. And as you can tell from the letter, I may be getting a BA, but I'm the queen of BS.

    Hello-

I am representing the Rocky Mountain FanForce Chapter and we are currently organizing a Benefit Line Party for the premeire showing of Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones. All of the proceeds from this event will be given to the Urban Peak organization, which operates three licensed youth shelters in the Colorado area (for more information on this organization please refer to their website, www.urbanpeak.org ). We are working closely with Urban Peak to make this Benefit a success.

In order to cut down on costs, we are seeking donations from various merchants and organizations. Your company was mentioned on several occassions during our early planning meetings. Any donation would be greatly appreciated. We will be auctioning off the various items we will be collecting and presenting Urban Peak with the funds raised by these efforts. All of the items displayed will be accompanied by the appropriate advertising of the contributors.

If you should find it within your means to make a contribution, please contact myself at 1-800-333-6857 x.107. And if you would like to verify our affliation with Urban Peak please feel free to contact them directly at 303-777-9198, and our contact person is Kerry Walling (Kerry.Walling@urbanpeak.org).
Thank you very much for your time,

    -Jennifer Peterson

JO - Wasn't aware someone else had a closer connection, so whoever. I just think it would be a great opportunity for him and very cool for us.

Kit - Contacted StarWarsChicks.com and Creative Force (the lightsaber people), so we'll see where it goes. I'll be at the shelter tonight serving dinner so I'm sure there will be questions. How's it going with UA?

OW - What happened with SLC?

DH - If you look over my letter you can see some of the tactics I use to guilt people into donating stuff. Also, once we get a a go ahead from UA we can start passing out flyers too, that always helps them take you seriously.

Can you tell I've done some of this before? However, I am bowing to the all mighty huckster Kitarusapien for his sheer tenacity in dealing with people. I'm only truly good in print.

I planted the seed and mention the raffle to the guy I know (who is friends with Cukr). I started writing James an email, but stalled halfway through. I would assume his role is to perhaps do a signing and/or give up a nice poster for the raffle. I just don't think I can compose a request email half as good as PZoo, so I stopped.

PZ, would your compose another email? or we can wait and see what my buddy says, or we can just talking to him in person at StarFest.

You guys are all awesome. //high fives//

Jennifer --didn't go to SLC because a) no uniforms and b) thought it would be better to spend my time doing interviews, and job hunting.

Kinda bummed, but I saw the 220th on 9news last night.

Had our meeting w/ Kerry & Amber @ Urban Peak today, and it went well. They are very excited and are discussing how to get "permission" from LFL,inc. for the party (UA is being a little picky).

Tim is going full steam ahead on brow beating the people at UA.

We checked out the Continental and it looks like outside is going to work well.

As soon as we get the go ahead from UA & Urban Peak we can start distributing flyers.

We also found out about Tax Deductions for the donated items.

So, until we get the thumbs up from UA we're in a sort of holding pattern. But Tim won't let them ignore us, I can promise you that.

    Next up:
Get me a list of people you guys want me to beg donations from (letters).

Prepare for a letter writing campaign to get LFL,inc. "blessing" for our event in case we get a lukewarm response from UP.

Get those creative juices flowing, we are going to have some booths/tables to put together.

Costumes are a big yes for this event, so get them out the moth balls or fire up those sewing machines and plastic molds.

    Until next time,

    -Jennifer

As Jen said, the wheels are churning. She corrected me as to who we need to contact at Lucas, Inc., so I fired off another "heads-up" to the fan connection point that I was redirected to. On wednesday, we should hear back from Kerry at "UP", and hopefully, their staff will fire off a motivating letter of request to the proper party at LCL. As Jen described, we looked over the Continental, and as noted, the staging area for about 150 people is inside the lobby with the bulk of the folks stuck in line outside. If indeed the theatre holds up to 500+, then I foresee us playing fiddle to the folks outside, but we should keep the tables, ect. close to the lobby to keep those folks interested. Who would like to MC the event? If you talk to anyone about donations for the auction(raffle is looking too governmentally-impaired), then be sure to remind them about the tax deduction, not to mention that we will announce all parties who gave as their item comes up for bid. Just to clarify, I'll supply a couple of 4x12ply tables and horses for the show...but I'll need covers from somebody. The area of sidewalk that the line would be facing is large enough for quite a stage, so we'll probably rig it there to face them and the "cattle-guard" region in the lobby, and just wander up and down the line during the event.
In a nutshell, anyone with connections to virtually anything SW related should check those out and see what they can do for us....even if it seems like the connection is weak...ya never kno, ya kno? As soon as I get the good scoop from "UP", I'll post it on the site. Until then, may the Force be with you!
    Uh....All hail the Emperor, too!!!!

Good idea! We could hold a SW character auction! :D All the people in costume that want to could have themselves auctioned off and be that person's 'escort' for the rest of the priemere!

And there was a guy who graduated from my high school who worked for Industrial Light and Magic, now he designs battle bots (apparently he is very good at it too). I know someone at my school who e-mails him regularly, I could see about getting in contact with him and see if he wants to come out for the party :D

LOL...okay, well I was being sarcastic...I don't think any of you would want to see me dressed up like Oola...but if that's your bag, somebody whip me up some headtails anf a fishnet outfit...umm, no, nevermind.

But seriously, the escort thing would be kinda cool...maybe I could actually get a date that way, lol.

If you got a date from dressing up and dancing like Oola, you may end up with very valid concerns about being in a dark theatre in close proximity to said individual {;>>>

    lol, very true.

But if we did the escort thing, I would NOT be dressed (or undressed) like Oola.

I was reminiscing about AlphaCon and ran acrossed this pic of the Omaha Fanforce's table.

Kit, I am wondering if the UA would let us set up a "recruitment" table something like this one.
