As with the Russian Olympics issue, I have to ask why there's such a narrow interest on display. The relocation policy is potentially problematic in a number of ways. But it's stupid to suppose that LGBT migrants should get special grant to stay in Australia. As a minimum standard of fairness, should you not at least advocate that all legitimate refugees, regardless of sexual orientation, have a chance at some better resettlement? I appreciate that the particulars of the circumstance create challenges for the LGBT community that don't exist for others. Nonetheless, it is incredibly callous to be perfectly fine with everything about a policy that harms tens of thousands annually, except where it inconveniences a small group one happens to sympathize with.

What's wrong with a short election run up anyway? I hate electioneering.

There's nothing wrong with it, John Oliver was just showing that Australia was no different than the U.S. in terms of politicians.

    [serious]

For those of you who are still puzzled over who to vote for, the ABC has launched Antony Green's website for electorates (as a subsection of Vote Compass), which not only provides quite a bit of info about each respective electorate (when it was founded, parties that have held it etc) but also lists all the candidates standing as well as profiles of (some of) the candidates and links to their websites:

Antony Green's Election Guide: Electorates A-Z

A really good way to get informed about who is standing in your area. For those who are considering chucking in your vote (whether by donkey voting or just skipping it altogether) I encourage you to at least check out your electorate and find out who is standing - who knows, you might find someone to your liking that you can vote for and help contribute to our democracy on Sept 7. :) ::cue Advance Australia Fair::

(if the above sounds preachy just imagine it's being narrated by Sam Kekovich with random references to diggers and lamb. :p)

As someone that will be donkey voting in both houses, I agree that everyone should check out the candidates before doing that. I'm one of those that has found nothing worthwhile in the two major parties over the last 3 years, and the opportunism of the minors doesn't hold anything for me either.

So, it's a week out, boys and girls, how are we doing?

I'm leaning towards Libs, again, though I'd be more for them if Turnbull was in charge, not Abbott.

We got a call from the ALP candidates office last night, Mr Geldar answered questions as a concerned voter.

...what, he answered questions impersonating a concerned voter, or because he is a concerned voter? :p

I just want this to end so I don't have to listen to more of the crap spewing forth.

If I hadn't already made up my mind on what I was doing, the antics if Labor and Rudd the past couple of weeks would have been enough to ensure I wouldn't vote for them.

At this point in time even the bastard children of Bob Hawke (and I believe they are legion) are lining up to vote 1 Abbott on election day.

Because he IS a concerned voter.

And I have found my party to vote for. The Secular Party of Australia. I couldn't in good conscience vote for o e of the majors.

It was an error. All the Liberals are going to do is make nanny software available. No compulsory net filter. End of story.
