Seems like it's that time of year again. The way thing seem to be going, I'm guessing that the front runner position is going to be a slugfest between Lincoln, Silver Linings Playbook, and Zero Dark Thirty.

Also, as much I love Giancarlo Esposito, why is he being nominated this year?

As usual, I feel like the BAFTAs have very good nominations. Your move, Academy.

This is also a year where I feel like I'm actually going to have seen and liked a lot of the nominees. The only one that's likely to get a lot of noms that I haven't seen is Life of Pi. Well, and Amour, which is a bit more fringe but likely to get some noms.

I'm fairly certain the Academy Award noms will be announced tomorrow morning.

As for the BAFTAs, great to see Judi Dench nominated for Skyfall. Also good to see the variations between Best Picture and Best Director. You'd think the Academy would think a bit more outside the box in that department.

Otherwise, good selection, pretty much what I imagined for this year. Visual Effects is gonna be difficult to predict.

The noms are tomorrow morning, yes. We might want to get the thread title changed so people know we're talking about Oscar noms. Or just have a new thread. Because most people don't care about awards but are mildly interested in the Oscars.

    The timing is all wrong...

Kathryn Bigelow should be going up against the Avatar sequel...

Haha, good one. There's no way an Avatar sequel is going to get a Best Picture nom.

Kathryn Bigelow not getting nominated a load of bull****. On the plus side, Beasts of the Southern Wilds did much better than I expected.

i'm surprised that quentin was also snubbed, despite django getting a lot of noms in other major categories.

I'm surprised The Master didn't get more nominations. They may as well just give Daniel Day-Lewis the Oscar now and save the rest of us time. Best Picture does seem quite open, which we haven't had for a few years.

At this point I'm guessing that best picture is going to Lincoln, which I don't have a problem with, though I'd be happier if it went to Zero Dark Thirty or Beasts of the Southern Wilds.

EDIT: Another disappointment: Moonrise Kingdom getting only one nomination.

I hope Quvenzhané Wallis wins Best Actress. It would have to one of be the most amazing path to an Oscar stories ever.
