I'm looking forward to avoiding anything within a 10km radius of the CBD for two weeks, does that count?

Did anyone watch the Opening Ceremony? 'Cos HRH looked incredibly bored.

And yeah, attempt to avoid the CBD in peak hour for the next 11 days..."prepare to be snug with strangers..."

The opening ceremony was terrible. Bloody koalas, bloody duck-boy. I love the token use of Aboriginals when there are hundreds of them outside the venue protesting the occurance of the games.

Yes, the koalas with giant heads running into each other trying to rescue Duck Boy were weird. And then they tried to immolate Delta Goodrem.

Ohh Duckboy. It really was Leunig gone wrong I think...although I love how the Director (Andrew Walsh) decided that a bit of confusion does us all good. Perhaps PoT has been whispering in the man's ear all this time! :p

And Boogie, the whole 'Aboriginal Element' had me turning off the TV in disgust.

I'm also annoyed by the fact that the other channels have decided they can't compete with Games footage and are screening repeats in the middle of new seasons, e.g House and Supernatural. Sigh.

Good to see most Melbournites are enjoying the games. Being negative and pessismistic is a really useless way thinking about the games. I think you really have to appreciate the amazing effort Lord Emperor John So, Bracks Listens Acts and the rest of the Gang have put in. I was walking the streets of the city Saturday night on my way to Icon bar (its an honest, occa club - i had a 21st there, c'mon :p) and the city was just absolutely pumping. And the sport is alright too. The women's marathon was an incredible moment. Its a bit of fun for two weeks, and it gets the kids involved, and damnit, thats what we want. No one cared about this games before they got here, but now that they're here, many people are enjoying them.

And we've got the GP on after this... man you gotta love this city, such a vibrant, happening, cosmopolitan place!

I'm not being negative or pessimistic, I'm just not that interested in sport- I don't mind the AFL or the FIFA World Cup though. John So's pretty much a cult figure now, he's such a great Mayor- when you see him beaming, you can't help but smile along ;)

I do enjoy seeing all the different nationalities in the streets though- a couple of people from the Vanuatu team walked past my bus stop in the city, which was pretty cool. Still, it's not that interesting to watch on TV when Australia just keeps on thumping the competition- last I heard, Australia was on 82 medals with the UK on 42.

Good that Saville won her gold after that disqualification at Sydney.

But the train today...*shudder*...there wasn't room to swing a gizka.

    Two questions.

    1) What is a Gizka?

    2) How does one swing one?

Gizka are small, rodent-like things from Knights of the Old Republic.

    :-B

No idea how you swing one, though.

    =D=

I love having fellow geeks around!

You could swing a gizka by the legs...or alternatively, you could just start throwing them at random commuters for your own amusement ;)
