So um, yeah...this story makes me alternate from feeling like having a giggle fit on the ground and from wanting to cry in despair. I honestly can't wait for all of the ends to be tied together. I love how you incorporate humor in your depressing story, and I love how you show what Jaina is thinking...it really does sound like her.
Congrats on the nominations, voting is NOT going to be easy.
    Update soon ;)

So I guess I had better finish this record. You have to know when the end is coming, when to say "this is good enough."
It sure doesn?t look good for Jaina? [face_worried]

Coincidently, Sovel also took this approached when paying child support to his brood of children from all his marriages, by deciding to stop dividing his income amongst them.
    [face_laugh] :_| The bastard!

At the moment when I stepped into the crew lounge and saw her, I felt like thanking that fuzzy admiral with my lightsaber for his wonderful choice.
[face_laugh] She doesn?t feel like stroking his soft mane all of a sudden.

I stood for a moment completely frozen, staring dumbly at the Miraluka? like Jacen when you ask him to make a decision. I felt like one of the animals on Captain Bojo's Critter Quest, wondering if I could crawl away or if that idiot had already spotted me.
    [face_laugh] LMAO! Jacen! Priceless!

I said it anyway. She didn't flinch. Not even when I mentioned the "Bantha she rode in on."
    [face_laugh]

    Yay. Story time.
    *giggles*

"Because they weren't a handsome people and it was the only way he could get them to breed?"
    ROFLMAO!!! You?re killing me here!

I sighed and then stood up from my chair before clapping my hands together with an ironic smile. "Wonderful! That was really great? next time you can tell me how Ewoks got their fuzzy little beards."
    [face_laugh]

"Jaina, when I spoke to you at Kuat about Jag, it wasn't what I saw in a vision if I didn't tell you. It was what I saw in a vision if I did tell you."
Goodness, was she ever a student of Vergere?s?

Put this in your joonga and smoke it? I've grown tired of saying "Essence Point?", so from here on out, I will just be saying "Sovel Lies" when one of these delightful moments occur.

    Sovel Lies.?

I?ll miss those essence points. :(

This was a truly marvelous update, I laughed throughout. A favorite post among many favorites from this outstanding fic. And while I was laughing, I was also pausing to think about Voanes Malu?s cryptic statements. And, yep, I went back to look at what she had said when they were in Kuat. :p I am awed by all the thought you?ve put into this fic, YK. Truly amazing. [Insert I-am-not-worthy emoticon] ;) I agree with Oldj, this fic is a classic.

Congratulations on your many well-deserved nominations. =D=

And, as always, I can't wait for more. :D

A wonderful post as always *wonders how he missed it*

I am looking forward to see how this whole thing ends and to find out just what happens, because Moanes would tell us that it has always happened. ;)

Of course, I do have to wonder why Jaina assumes that since she took Kep's place in the mission, she would also take his fate. [face_thinking] As usual, she is not listening to what is being said, but hearing what she wants.

Madame_Solo: So um, yeah...this story makes me alternate from feeling like having a giggle fit on the ground and from wanting to cry in despair.

Perfect! :p It is what I was going for ;)

I honestly can't wait for all of the ends to be tied together. I love how you incorporate humor in your depressing story, and I love how you show what Jaina is thinking...it really does sound like her.

Thanks so much, I'm glad you like it :) The dark humor was a must, otherwise I think this would just be depressing :p

Congrats on the nominations, voting is NOT going to be easy.

    Thanks again :D

    Update soon

Monday! I can't believe I let it go this long but have been preoccupied with other things and my other fic :p

Red: It sure doesn?t look good for Jaina?

Well, I did say at the beginning that this would be a happy story [face_whistling]

    The bastard!

    Indeed [face_laugh]

She doesn?t feel like stroking his soft mane all of a sudden.

She does, but only if it's a pelt she's wearing [face_devil]

    LMAO! Jacen! Priceless!

    :D

    ROFLMAO!!! You?re killing me here!

Hehe, I better stop then :p

Goodness, was she ever a student of Vergere?s?

Yeah, it does sound like it [face_thinking]

    I?ll miss those essence points.

    Aww, I'm sorry :(

This was a truly marvelous update, I laughed throughout. A favorite post among many favorites from this outstanding fic.

    You're too kind [face_blush]

And while I was laughing, I was also pausing to think about Voanes Malu?s cryptic statements. And, yep, I went back to look at what she had said when they were in Kuat. I am awed by all the thought you?ve put into this fic, YK.

I like to have things planned out before I begin ;) I'm glad you like it :)

Truly amazing. [Insert I-am-not-worthy emoticon] I agree with Oldj, this fic is a classic.

Thanks again for your kind words [:D]

Congratulations on your many well-deserved nominations.

    Thanks :)

And, as always, I can't wait for more.

Not too much more waiting, I've let this hang long enough :p

Kidan: A wonderful post as always *wonders how he missed it*

No worries :D I've been so lame about updates, you made it in plenty of time.

I am looking forward to see how this whole thing ends and to find out just what happens, because Moanes would tell us that it has always happened.

The next post will pretty much tell you everything ;)

Of course, I do have to wonder why Jaina assumes that since she took Kep's place in the mission, she would also take his fate. As usual, she is not listening to what is being said, but hearing what she wants.

    Yeah, I don't think she meant it literally, just that she thinks she's going to die on the mission. Or you may be right and she's not listening again 8-}

    Thanks for reading :)

Thanks, everyone. Sorry for the delay. I've got a new post all written and I just need to type it. Should be up by Monday :D This one should answer the majority of everyone's questions. It is the last chapter before the epilogue [face_dancing]

Chapter 34: In Which We Realize There Is No Deus Ex Machina

We spilled out of the belly of the Star Destroyer known as the Ackbar when we came out of hyperspace? we had traveled in the Ackbar as Ralroost went off to tend to other business with Kyp Durron safely on board.

I wish Lowie had been safely on board the Mon Cal Cruiser as well...

When Twin Suns left Ackbar, we got our first good look at Chafour. What we found was the shocker to end all shockers? the Chiss blockade surrounding the planet was much larger than we'd predicted and we'd flown into a trap.

I'll pause here to let you recover from the surprise.

I started to wonder if we were getting our intelligence from the Chiss again, or if the higher-ups in Federation Intelligence were hiring people under that moniker because they had a great sense of irony.

It didn't change anything in my mind. We were there to destroy the Chiss bioweapon and that's exactly what I was planning to do.

My only regret was that I was probably going to die before I could hear that story about Ewoks from Voanes Malu.

Though Kyp Durron was still getting his beauty sleep with a nice imprint of my knuckles on his face, Twin Suns managed to maintain a powerful Jedi presence in its roster. Besides Lowbacca, who was nearly as good of a pilot as he was a friend, there was also libertine Twi'lek Jedi, Alema Rar, and bad-pun-sissing-reptile, Tesar Sebatyne. The four of us were melded as we left Ackbar, able to sense each other's thoughts and emotions with a clarity few can understand, and were drawing the non-Jedi in as well, sharpening their reflexes and senses.

There was no question that we were as ready as we'd ever be, which is to say not nearly ready enough.

Our X-Wings were loaded with shadow bombs that would be used to destroy the Chiss base and the bioweapon when we got inside the atmosphere before it got a chance to take first prize in their next science fair.

Our escort through the sea of Chiss warships clogging space around the planet was a pair of gunships and a newer SoroSuub blastboat.

Can you guess how long it took the Chiss to destroy them?

"This is Twin One," I'd said over the comm to my squadmates. "Our goal is to get into Chafour's atmosphere. Avoid combat wherever you can? this is not our fight? our fight's on the surface."

As quickly as we had arrived, the battle began. It was strange to see the chaos, the flashing turbolasers, the flaming hulls, the dueling starfighters, and know that all the death that was going on was so we could get to the surface.

Within seconds of the last comm click from my squadron in acknowledgement of the order, our entire escort was vaporized by a Chiss frigate. I tried to steer us away from the battle, leading the way towards Chafour, but the Chiss fleet seemed to close in around us, and very soon, we were swallowed up into the battle.

Before I knew it we lost two pilots in the salvos of large Chiss vessels, and I decided to lead my team closer to one, making it more difficult for them to hit us with the batteries.

A lancing particle beam from the Chiss warship we strafed hit Twin Suns 6 and reduced the X-Wing to what would have been an eerily beautiful blossom of iridescent orange plasma if not for the shockwave that sent me jolting forward against my own flight restraints, or the life of a friend I felt wink out in the Force.

"Stay in formation!" I ordered the nine remaining members of my squadron, as we attempted to push our way through the Chiss blockade.

The outcome of the war rested on us getting down to the planet that the Chiss surrounded and I didn't have time to worry too much about those we'd already lost.

As long as we had enough bombs by the time we reached the surface to destroy the Chiss lab hidden on Chafour, we could stop them from unleashing a nightmare.

"We're not supposed to engage them," Alema Rar's voice came over the comm as I neared a pair of capital ships spewing cascades of red fire.

    "We'

She deserves to die for betrayal, and killing Shawnkyr!
Yes, Jag killed the Wookiee; that's like killing a pet!
Just kidding! I love Lowie, but Jag killing him is no different than Jaina killing Kyrn!
Sometimes Lowie's blind devotion to Jaina irritates me to no end. How many times has she screwed him over or used him, yet he remains absolutely loyal.

Thank you. I needed a good laugh today. That did it.

Jaina shouldn't feel so guilty over Lowie's death. If she believes Moanes, then Jag has always killed Lowie. There would have been nothing she could have done about it.

Jag and Jaina both crashed?

Will she get to meet up with him? Probably just outside the biochemistry lab, right?

    Lowie was dead.

And Jagged Fel had killed him.

What was worse, I allowed it to happen. I had spared Jag instead of firing when I had a clear shot and Lowie died because of that.

:( Poor Lowie..., I think Jaina will end up killing Jag. With her, duty comes always first. Sad but true...

    Epilogue

    This is the end.

As terrible and trite as this account has been, there is some peace for me in knowing it's over.

    And it is over.

Because I've found him? I've found it.

After the crash? after the splinters of shattered transparisteel, the rushing decompression, and a jolt that would snap a Hutt's spine? I had known it would end this way. When I searched the wreckage of the dismembered clawcraft, I'd found nothing.

Jag had survived the crash somehow, just as I had. I have no explanation for this, other than to say that we'd always survived the crash.

It wasn't long after that I found Jag's trail and felt him fleeing in the Force. I knew he would lead me here before I'd even picked it up.

And now it's over. Because I have spotted him only meters from the ancient Chiss temple where scientists are engineering a bioweapon the likes of which would make the Yuuzhan Vong seem about as fierce as Ewoks.

It is here on Chafour that it all must end.

The war that Luke and Mara Jade Skywalker caused will rage on, but this chapter and my time in it have reached their conclusion.

In Nieus P. Sovel's book, Rounding, he wrote that "A sign you've reached the end, is that you no longer have anywhere else to go."

This is the sort of profound abstraction that makes the Sullustan one of the most celebrated intellectuals in the history of the galaxy.

I'll just hope that when Sovel applies his mathmatical formula to the choices I've made in life, that I'll finish as a good person.

I am hurting badly and I know my time is all but run out. Before it does, I'd like to say how sorry I am to those I've let down, and that I love my family? my mother and father, Jacen, Ben, even the two culprits responsible for all of this? I love each and every one of you.

My apologies to poor Artoo. I hope he's found and fixed before the damage is permanent. I hope that this account is preserved and passed on... that it is found after my death.

I'm off to be with Anakin now. With Lowie, and Chewie, and Tahiri too.

It is clear to me now that Voanes Malu was always right. I will kill Jag, not out of revenge for Lowie or the Jedi Academy on Ossus, but because I must stop him from warning the Chiss in the temple that I'm coming to destroy the lab. In my pack are a few thermal detonators brought along for just such a circumstance? if our X-Wings had gotten in the atmosphere but failed to deliver the shadow bombs. They should do the trick and will probably take me out as well.

It doesn't seem to matter much now that I loved Jag, but I truly did. And I know he loved me too. Though I've feared it for so long, I know that this is our destiny.

At least in some way we'll be together when we meet our doom.

I believe that the Force netherworld, at least, is free of politics, of the Alliance and Chiss? of war. Perhaps when we arrive there, I'll ask Jag to go dancing, or maybe fix him some Velossian caramachi shellbacks with a sauce of suvoli cream

If I don't return, then you know what has become of me, but rest assured that I will kill Jagged Fel and destroy the Chiss bioweapon before then.

    I always have.

I will close this account then, as I began it several days ago in the forests of Chafour? with words from my father, Han Solo.

I remember vividly, his reaction to our attempts to console him shortly after Chewie died, particularly when Uncle Luke offered him a few Jedi platitudes.

"I don't believe in destiny or magic. This galaxy is a horrible place to live. It seems like everyday there's another threat trying to capture us, or break us, or destroy us all. The only magic in this galaxy, kid, is convincing ourselves that what we do today will matter tomorrow. There's an illusion for you!

"The only thing I know for sure is that I love my wife, and I love my kids. And I will love them tomorrow. That If I keep fighting, at least that much of it will continue to make sense...

"But I sure hope I die before I get cynical about it a

    And that's it :p

I'd like to thank everyone who took the time to read this fic. I know it was unusual, and a was meant to be an experiment and challenge for me to break up my normal Star Wars writing, so I appreciate those of you who took an interest in it :)

This was my 5th "epic" fic and took longer than any fic I've ever written to complete (almost 11 months), but that's probably because I only worked on it an hour or two a week :p It probably suffered from the fact I was writing another fic (or two sometimes) in it's posting schedule, but I hope not in quality. Ultimately though, I am fairly please with the majority of it and hope those of you who read it enjoyed it.

    I'd like to thank TahiriSoloFan, Lola64, oldjedinurse, jagsredlady, princess_melissa, SilSolo, _Jedi_of_Destiny_, thesporkbewithyou, Quiet_Mandalorian, Jedi_Jaina_Durron, ChissGoddess, BigFatty, Kellaina, c_owensby, Tahi, RevaDurron, Spike2002, Maggy, jaya02, Jek_Windu, Kidan, Jaina_Rocks160, Pelranius, KnightJaina, CarrKicksDoor, lurker2209, Lonewolf89, TahiriVeliaSolo69, Killik_Twilight, Tahiri-Solo, flowerbee, evenstar963, Jedi_Sword, JediCallista_1_6_e54, Kudzu, Chimpo_the_Sith, ZebulaNebula, TheCrazyRodian, Elfsheen, 1Yodimus_Prime, Zonama, MaraJade1225, TKeira_Lea, Madame_Solo, Rogue_Pilot_2347, MJade, JainaDurron, General_Karrde, Kenobi_Kid, Master_Palpy, Golden_Jedi, Jedi_Vai, Chilla, Lessa,Morgoth_The_Enemy, Thrawn McEwok, baby-jade, Valie, Art_Of_War, Myria, Dev_Binks, R11, Ars_longa, Courtney_Solo, skywalkerlover00, Elena, pregnantpadme, Trepidation, Inara, and Kettch_the_Jedi.
