Gorthaga decided to head towards the remains of the cockpit, and slammed a couple of buttons. Gorthaga checked his screen. The red light had vanished.
"Nice." Gorthaga muttered, spinning his ship before poking a button to do another scan for crashes. There was no lights on the screen, so he did a U-turn, and headed back to where he started.
"What is our mission? Who are we up against?" Gorthaga asked, sending a few quick blasts into a nearby asteroid, destroying it.

OOC: Ack, sorry for not responding earlier. I?ve been lazy.
    IC: Maranya

"Ma'am, it's good to see you awake. Your man Escalos brought you here in pretty bad condition, and so I'd really like it if you let my doctor go. I'm Chancellor Laine Snowtrekker of the Outcasts. Is there anything I can do to help you?"

Bizarre. Here she was, holding a doctor hostage, having just wrecked the medbay, and the woman who introduced herself as Chancellor Snowtrekker was acting like everything was status quo.
Well, this woman didn?t have a Sigil either, this place wasn?t the type of medical bay that the Order used, and they claimed that Fyar had brought her here. All in all, it was enough to convince her to drop her guard. A little. She released the doctor.

?Sorry about that.? She said. Truthfully, holding the doctor hostage wouldn?t help all that much anyway. Especially since holding him to her chest like that aggravated her stomach wound to no end. The burning eased up a little, much to her relief. Maranya turned to the Chancellor.
?Sorry for tearing up the place, last thing I remember was that I had been stabbed, and that all my people were dead. So you?ll have to forgive me if I?m a little on edge. Speaking of which, do you have any idea what happened??

    TAG: Laine, Blade.

    IC: Fyar

"Escalos, you had better come to the medbay."

That startled Fyar out of battle mode. After he processed the meaning of the words, he sent a short message to the other pilots, explaining that he had to go. Upon doing so, he had the simulation computer insert a standard fighter program to pilot his simulated fighter, then opened the canopy. He took one deep breath of air, then hopped out of the simulator and ran full-tilt for the medbay.
Barring unexpected circumstances, there was only one probable reason for the Chancellor to interrupt him in the middle of a simulation: His commander had woken up.
Fyar most likely broke the ship-board running speed record getting to the bay, and he skidded to a halt just inside the door. Inside were the Chancellor, and, indeed, his Commander. She was dressed in a modest medical gown, red-eyed expression inscrutable. Though, Fyar could tell that she was hurting, badly. Anyone who didn?t know her quite so well probably wouldn?t be able to tell.

?Chancellor, hi? He got out. Then looked Lirian right in the eyes. ?Hello, Commander. Nice to see you up.?

"This sort of thing seems to happen now and then. We just try to not make it a habit." Laine shook her head. "I don't know what happened, but that's why I called Escalos to come to the medbay."

Laine knew that she had called him out of the sims, but this was rather pressing. Not that the sims weren't pressing, but this was a bit more urgent. She had a feeling that this commander was a little thrown off by her being so calm; however, situations like this one brought both her Jedi and smuggler training to the surface--cool and collected, despite whatever was going on in the inside.

Escalos slid in through the door. He'd made good time. ?Chancellor, hi,? He got out. Then he looked his commander right in the eyes. ?Hello, Commander. Nice to see you up.?

Hi? That's it? Well, Laine would see how this conversation went. Since it was technically her ship, she'd be staying to listen, even if it became clear that she was unwanted. Which might be the case, considering Sia's reaction to that sword Escalos had lugged around.

OOC: Sorry for not responding earlier. I have no excuse.

    IC: Maranya

Fyar, skidding into the medbay, looking as though he had run a kilometer or so full-tilt to get there was about the most welcome sight Maranya could imagine at that particular moment.

?Hello, Commander. Nice to see you up.? He said, as soon as he could get a word in. Maranya let a smile onto her face.

?Nice to see you, too. What happened, exactly?? She asked. Fyar sighed, and started explaining, from the point that he had gone off to find a sniper perch, and took it from there. He went over what he had seen of the battle, for Snowtrekker?s benefit as much as hers, she guessed. But when it came to her duel with the Sentinel, he glossed over it. He didn?t mention that she had actually been fighting the Sentinel with her own blade, just that the man had been too close for him to get a clear shot, and that he had stabbed her. And that he had capped the Sentinel in retaliation.

At least, now she had an explanation as for how a somewhat-abnormal human could take on a Sentinel and win: A shot to the back of the head. Not exactly what could be called honorable, but whatever let you walk away?

She thanked Fyar for his efforts, then turned to Chancellor Snowtrekker.

?I thank you for your assistance. I don?t know how I can repay you, seeing as how everything I had was invested in that base, which has probably been stripped by scavengers by now.?

She closed her eyes as a swell of bitterness came up, along with yet another throb from her belly, reminding her that, yes, she was relatively safe now, and could she please give her battered body a rest.

    Dantooine orbit

Dantooine was once a peaceful, out-of-the-way, pastoral world that was primarily used by cattle ranchers in their never-ending struggle to meet the galaxy's demand for meat foodstuffs, a mostly insignificant speck in an infinite sky of specks. It's purpose had been twisted and corrupted in the recent invasion when the Yuuzhan Vong had taken control of it and terraformed it, growing their own corrupt instruments of war. It was above this war-torn and changed world that a tiny spacecraft emerged from hyperspace, gliding towards it like an ocean predator in the black waves of space.

The N-1 interceptor was an elegant starfighter from another age, when galactic-scale warfare was but a part of the historical past, when planetary militias had the luxury of making their weapons pieces of art. Sleek, smooth, and curved, the starfighter slid through space effortlessly, starlight glistening off the chromium front, but past that was a sign of the changes in history, the brutal conflicts after that civilized age. The bright yellow of the N-1 was replaced with a sinister black, turning the royal escort into a stalking predator of the skies. In the cockpit was a warrior also dressed in black, covered head to toe in dull, charcoal armor, the single speck of light being the green gem embedded in the armor's chest.

The armored warrior gazed down from the bubble cockpit at the vongformed world that had yet to recover from the terrible past and felt a sense a kinship with the ruined world briefly. They both had the scars of war on their surface and deep within. The moment passed, and the dark figure was doing the business of war once more. She almost regretted that the alien invasion was over. It was a relief to be on the winning side of war for once, to get to fight a truly alien and inhuman opponent with no remorse, even if her efforts were mostly unnoticed in the grand scheme of things. Now the aliens were defeated, only a few small, scatted groups still holding out against the galactic order. Maybe, with this new group of outcast warriors, she would encounter the Vong scum once more. The idea actually sounded fun.

The voice that came from the grill of the helmet was synthesized and harsh, masking the true voice of the person within, just as it hid her face. "Wraith", she spoke, "Scan the planet. Locate anything that seems out of place. Something the Vong wouldn't have made or let stand." The astromech dome above the cockpit swiveled, and an affirmative message from the droid arrived via the translation screen. As the droid did as commanded, the figure within the armor stretched out through the Force as her instructors had taught her, sifting through the life energy of the universe for the presence of sentient beings on the greenish orb bellow. After a long moment of meditation, she gave up without success. She found nothing, except for the Force-void scars of Vong biotech. Either her admittedly meager senses were insufficient... or the Vongtech was masking the Force presence of the few beings on the planet. The face under the helmet gave a tight smile; a very clever place to hide the base. Judging from the history she had managed to dig up on these "Outcasts", such precautions seemed prudent.

The astromech chimed in again, listing the anomaly the warrior was searching for. "A Mon Cal cruiser", the harsh, mechanical voice spoke, "Now that's something the Vong wouldn't like sitting around. Contact the cruiser, tight-beam transmission."

The droid did as asked, confirming that connection had been established. The armored figure sat back in the cockpit, opening the channel to the Outcast base.

"Outcasts, this is the starfighter Wraith, requesting landing clearance. I wish an audience with your leader for a...business arrangement."

Fyar watched his Commander nod an affirmative, then they traded a glance. Fyar shrugged and Lirian nodded again. Without another word, he followed Chancellor Snowtrekker out the door.

?Sorry, Chancellor.? He said as soon as he was out the door. ?I didn?t think that she?d tear the place up like she did.?

"It's all right; I think we can pay for the repairs and such." She took a deep breath and let it out. What she wouldn't give to have Lissa or Lank back in charge. "What I'm wondering is whether there is going to be a problem between your commander and the new Outcast who recognized the blade used to attack her. Now, I don't expect you to know everything--and I don't even completely expect you to tell me what you know. However, the safety of this ship and this crew might depend on it, and so I have to inquire about it before we move onto bigger things. Does that make sense?"

    [Sim Room]

Earwen watched as A-3 failed to respond. Alright then. Sitting Gungan target practice.

She triggered the button to launch a torpedo then began turning her ship onto another target. Just as she was drawing within range of another target her comm went out.

Vice Chancellor Earwen, I have just granted starfighter Wraith clearance to land. The pilot wishes to speak with our leader. However, the Chancellor is currently occupied. Would your current duties allow you to meet our newest guest in the hangar or should I have her sent to an office to wait?

"I'll see to it. Thank you."

Earwen flipped off her simulator, allowing her ship to vanish from space. Then she proceeded to hangar bay to watch Wraith land. The standard security team was on hand for a weapons sweep.

The sleek N-1 starfighter glided into the Mon Cal cruiser's hanger bay, driven on autopilot to the given coordinates, having received clearance. Even so, the armored pilot of the fighter was wary as she approached, sure that although the large starship was grounded, its weapon systems were likely still operational and fully capable of turning her and her fighter into dust. In their position, she would be more than a little paranoid about unwelcomed visitors. Thankfully, no turbolasers opened up on her as she flew in for a landing.

The craft touched down, and the bubble cockpit of the N-1 slid open with a slight hissing of air as atmospheric pressures equalized. The armored figure within grabbed the sides of the cockpit and leapt out, landing gracefully on the hard hanger floor, revealing itself to the one being who had ventured in to greet it. It was an infamous and short-lived enemy of the Jedi Order: a fearsome shadowtrooper of the Empire Reborn, a warrior artificially infused with the Force and clad in cortosis-weave armor. Just as those before it, this one had a simple lightsaber hilt at its side, mass-produced and given to the shadowtrooper corps in order to fight the Jedi on equal terms. Few, if any, of its kind were believed to still exist.

The armor was reminiscent of a stormtrooper's, but dark, and sleeker, form-fitting, with agile movement kept in mind with the design. It's shiny, insectile lenses gazed soullessly at the greeting "party", a member of a near-human species which the shadowtrooper didn't recognize, with it's array of bright, primary colors. But there was certainly something in the approaching female it DID recognize...and that was the Force. This person was strong with it, likely one of the very Jedi the trooper was trained to fight.

The trooper stepped forward, the masked, mechanical voice issuing from the helmet grill, "You must be in charge here. I have reason to believe that you have been looking for more recruits for your...organization. I think that you will find my skills adequate for the task. Allow me to introduce myself."

The armored figure reached up and undid the helmet covering its head. As it was pulled away, a mess of black hair, tangled and unkept, came spilling out and was forced back from the face it was hiding. The pale face of a human female was revealed, surrounded by the mass of hair hanging from her scalp. She had a long, slender nose and high cheekbones, but those sharp features drew not nearly as much attention as her icy blue eyes, sharp as a quantum-shaved blade and surrounded by the thick, black tattoo of a solar corona. The left side of her face, and the part of the tattoo that was once there, was deformed and mutilated by a long burn scar.

The woman stared down the other female as she spoke, this time without the mechanical manipulation of her helmet. Her true voice was high-toned and had the cultured accent of a core-worlder, but it also held a deep gravel to it, like a predator just holding back from attack, "I am Lyna Veil, formerly Captain in the shadowtrooper core, Galactic Empire. I wish to offer my services to the Outcasts."

Fyar could feel a sigh coming up. With an effort, he suppressed it.

?I really don?t know. I was with her pretty much from the beginning, I was probably closer to her than anybody else from our unit. But we had an unspoken agreement; she didn?t pry into my past and I didn?t pry into her?s.? He stopped, and shrugged.

?All I know is that this ?Sentinel? that attacked Commander Lirian was a force-user, and that he really wanted her dead.?

At this point, something occurred to him. No, he hadn?t told the whole story. But it really wasn?t he secret to tell. But then, he was on Laine?s ship, she had a right to know what was going on. This was when that sigh that had been sneaking up on him finally escaped.

?I haven?t been entirely honest, lie of omission, as it were. But it should be Lirian?s secret, to tell as she wishes. Just don?t tell her I said anything.? His gaze slipped aside, unable to look Chancellor Snowtrekker in the eyes.

?The ?Sentinel? didn?t just walk up to her and stab her. She was armed with a similar weapon, and they dueled. He was obviously a much better fighter, but I wouldn?t be surprised if she was at least a match for some jedi.?

As the sim came to a close and the screen went blank, Palso climbed out as the canopy rose. He noticed other Outcasts doing the same. "Over to the hanger, everyone. Time to meet the real thing!"

Palso was the first one out of the simulator room and made his way to the hanger. Once entering, he noticed all the hanger techs hard at work. Behind him, Palso could hear all the feet of the pilots behind him. He sure hoped the hanger techs had those starfighters ready. He looked for the nearest hanger tech and waved their way, "Hey, I got a question for ya..."

"I should have stayed and fixed the droid..." Gorthaga muttered, annoyed. The simulator went blank, so he climbed out. He flicked a button on his watch, and a hologram of the ship popped up, showing his location and where his ship was, so he could find his way to the hangar. He headed to a nearby elevator, and minutes later he arrived in the hangar.
"So, who is this real thing?" Gorthaga asked, aimed at Jim.

I have installed a cloaking device on it, which they don't have, as well as some slightly more powerful cannons. They are just slightly slower." Gorthaga boasted, missing out the fact that they only fired 3 shots before reloading, and that reloading took almost 20 seconds.

"And these ships were used by Admiral Ackbars men, at the Battle of Endor, recovering men from the remains of our ships. These saved the 23 survivors of the Redemption. The 20 Rebel Soldiers who managed to escape the Redemption were saved by these. My Father was in one of these, and he lead 3 of these and 9 men into the Executor, and rescued nearly half of the prisoners. However, only my dad and 4 prisoners managed to escape, the rest of his men went down with the ship." Gorthaga continued.

    Hangar

As Lyna descended from her ship Earwen spotted the security newbie who flinched and clutched his weapon a little too tightly at the sight of shadowtrooper armor. She mentally noted that she wanted to praise the details training if white knuckles were the only sign of fear envoked by intimidating armor. The armor was indeed an impressive sight. However, lacking an attack by the wearer it did not induce fear in Earwen. Listening to the mechnical voice Earwen was relieved when Lyna finally removed the helmet and she was able to get an unaltered voice and face to the name. Mentally she wondered how Lyna had gotten the scar, in addition to being curious about the choice of tattoo, but she decided such curiousities would wait or remain unanswered as their telling would need to be volunteered not inquired after.

"You are correct in assuming that the Outcasts are indeed seeking recruits. I am Vice Chancellor Earwen Lightrider. If you would follow me please."

Earwen motioned the security team away and then led Lyna to her office.

"Would you care for some caf?" Earwen said while busying herself with two mugs before sitting down and offering one across the desk to Lyna. "Might I inquire as to how you learned about our orginazation and why you left your service to the Empire?"

    Vice Chancellor's office

The severe former-shadowtrooper followed Earwen to her office with her helmet tucked under her arm, her blue eyes scanning the interior of the ship she found herself on. The Mon Cal architecture was suitably alien to the warrior, with its soft, organic curves, distantly reminiscent of Vong interiors, if far less...squishy. Returning her thoughts to the task at hand, Lyna took a seat across from the second in command of the Outcasts, accepting the offered cup of caf.

Vice Chancellor. Mentally, the human woman scowled. It was an oddly political title for a band of mercenaries, and it rubbed her the wrong way. She kept her lips shut about it, however, not wishing to offend the near-human 2nd just yet. She'd had her fill of politics in the past and wanted no part of them anymore. If these Outcasts had greater aspirations... but that was something to worry about later.

Lyna gently wrapped her fingers around the cup, savoring the warmth radiating from it before taking a sip of its contents, silent as the brightly-colored being across from her asked the most obvious and pertinent questions.

"Your organization has left an impressive trail of wreckage in its wake", the ex-imperial spoke up in a soft rumble, "Even in the midst of a war, that garners attention. You've made an impression on the current powers that be...which I understand is reason for your current security measures. Information about you still exists, though, and can be had with enough credits and the right connections."

The human woman looked up and stared into Earwen's eyes. "As for my service, the Empire that I joined died long ago. All that remains are a bunch of old men clinging to power and rosy memories of the good 'ole days. Hmph. I have no connection to them and want none."

Lyna raised the cup to her lips and took another drink before setting it aside and resting her crossed arms on the desk, her demeanor losing it's intensity and taking on a more casual, down-to-business air. "I know enough of your organization to like your style. You WANT someone with my talents and experience. I was given the best training the stormtrooper corps could provide. I fought a guerrilla war against rebels when most of your recruits were still in diapers, and my experience has given me a...unique perspective on the Force."

It was a good sell. Lyna silently hoped it was enough.

He paused, then sighed.

That would possibly be a wrinkle in whatever happened. Besides, Lirian was still in the medbay; they could put off the subject until Lirian was well.

"I understand about the not prying. It's something that the Outcasts usually stick to as well. We've had to be a bit more...intrusive because of all the being followed and spied on and what not. I will keep what you said in mind. It seems as if Palso has called for you all to be down in the hangar. I release you to go do whatever he's cooked up."

After Laine had dismissed Fyar, she went back to her office and sat down to look at the sim scores. Everyone had done decently well--now it was time to get together with Earwen and lay out some of the details of the upcoming mission.
