Calgary Lightsaber Class 2008

As many of you know we offer Lightsaber classes as part of our Fanforce activities.

We have some room, so we are putting out the call for new members.

The class outline includes:
Stage combat vs the "real thing"
10 basic directions of attack
10 basic directions of movement
7 basic fighting stances
Blocks - parries - dodges
Psychological as well as physical strategies
Combat in relation to the Jedi code

Classes are from 10:30 to 11:30, Saturday mornings at a martial arts school in the north east quadrant.

The fee is $10 per class.

The instructor has 20+ years of Shaolin training and experience with other styles including Medieval / Renaissance sword.

I can't stress enough how much fun and exciting this class is. Please do consider joining if you'd like to learn more about the 'art of the blade'

 

I'm curious why there seems to be little response to this.

Is it the time/day that makes it tough for people to come out? Is it the material?

If you are interested in taking this class, but only if it was a different time/date please post here with times you could make it. If there is significant demand we can definitely try to schedule additional classes to suit more people.

 

You know for me it is the day or I'd be back in a heartbeat. Most weekday nights (except Friday, and currently Mondays - but if I had sabre I wouldn't pick dance classes that were on the same night) would be better. Weekends have proven too hard for me to keep up.

 

The day/time is the issue for me as well. Monday, Wednesday or Sunday nights would be awesome.

You will need:

- 4 foot maple dowel. The diameter is about an inch. These are available from Windsor Plywood for about 5$

- Indoor shoes. Workouty type clothing

- Your enthusiasm

Looks like I will have to change my work availability after all sounds like it could be fun! Guess who would be most likely to cut off their own foot with a lightsaber! That would be ME!

 

Id be there every weekend if I wasnt living in Med Hat. Ive done some Kendo but it is a somewhat limited style of swordplay... I'd really like to diversify a bit. I guess Ill have to try to get up there for a few Saturdays worth if I can get some time off since I think a own a few ten bucks'essessssz.

Anyone seen or are making any online instructional videos? Im willing to trade for instructionals on how to turn your pc desktop or notebook(or tablet) into a mac... (would turning pc's into mac's be considered the "darkside" or "procurement of Imperial resources for personal enlightenment"?)... or hows about maybe "which" pieces of your dead pc can be used to build lightsaber replicas? (there the Force is with me again... I feel better now)

I've missed saber class so much, I'm sure I'm ridiculously behind now but I must do this again!

 

You have all been doing great over the last few weeks.
Remember to do your Count Dooku homework for the July 5th class.

Is Sifu actually teaching? Or is it still a 'practice' class? Saturday mornings have become tied up for me, but I might be able to make a class in August...

 

Sifu taught this past Saturday.

Test time is coming up!

 

Exciting new techniques learned today: "Eagle down the Stairs," and "Fish and the Fat."

 

A reminder to all that there will be no lightsaber class on August 2 or August 30.

 

I will not be at the lightsaber class for Saturday August 9th, due to the pre-screening of the Clone Wars.

The gym will be open for practice, should you wish to use it.

 

I'm sad to announce that the Calgary Fanforce Lightsaber Class is cancelled until further notice.

After three years we had many students come and go and I hope everyone had a good time. However due to lack of attendance and loss of our practise space, we are unable to continue.
