CT Luke's yellow lightsaber

i just meant people who watched the film swearing it was yellow through association.

George didn't get the memo from Kenner and so of course, he messed it up in the movies. It was supposed to be yellow all along.

 

I did not know that.

 

That would explain why he has a limp and has to use the cane.

Anybody ever try SWAPPING-out those arm-sleeve sabers?
Marker-colored toothpick replacements were NOT the same.

I've even seen them sold like that at collectors fairs - usually matchsticks.

 

Kenner's most well-known blunder with colors was the blue Snaggletooth, which was because the reference picture was in black and white.

As for the saber, I assume it's because early promotional pics used a white/yellow colored saber, which was the result of the effect being unfinished. See 1:02 and 1:25 in the trailer:

Yes, this makes the most sense re: why the lightsaber was yellow instead of the correct blue. As has been said, the tall, blue snaggletooth is another result of their not having the most accurate references when creating the figures.

Ironic that these these iconic Vintage ANH SW toys weren't even in the film...

 

I am not entirely sure that that is in fact a lightsaber

 

Check out Farm boy Lukes feet compared to Bespin Lukes, they've grown like 5 sizes....what went on in the Dagobah swamps for that to happen????!

 

I have no idea why, and I also had one of the full size yellow lightsaber back in the day, and obviously no one in the OT had yellow.

 

The toothpicks fit perfectly though.

 

this. also the yellow is a holdover from comics and the trailer where it's uncolored white. in the other thread about misconceptions you can see the marvel comic has luke with a pink/red saber. they just didn't know for sure.

 

No, but I found that the "Super Powers" version of the Penguin's umbrella, which had a similar gimmick to the Kenner SW figures, the yellow stick could fit in my ROTJ Vader's arm sleeve saber's arm. I think it was even just a repaint of said stick.

 

The Jedi Luke originally came with a blue lightsaber because the early shots in ROTJ had Luke using that colour. I remember they corrected it after a year or so.

Isn't Kenner's biggest blunder naming Zuckuss 4-LOM and vice versa?

 

The Kenner action figure Obi-Wan packaging had a yellow saber even though the figure correctly was blue. I think it was simply a whole bunch of reasons. First of all, no one knew the gold mine they had on their hands. I highly doubt the best and brightest highest executives were assigned to this project. Second of all, this is the early to mid-70's No e-mail. No cell phones. Communication was painfully slow (by today's standards). Phone calls - especially long distance - cost money so they were discouraged. They probably had to start production on the toys before the movie made the final decision on the matter and the correct FX were in place.

When the final FX made the sabers blue, I highly doubt the people making this obscenely low budget sci-fi flick were terribly concerned with making sure Kenner was in the loop.

 

Are you sure thats a lightsaber? Maybe Luke was just practicing safe sex.

"Comb the desert"......."we ain't found sh..!" All of those errors in packaging have given us collectors some cool stuff to find

 

I think I may have let Luke borrow Obi-Wan's so he would have a blue one.

My guess is, they based Luke's saber design on some pre-special effects shot. Then they molded thousands and thousands of them in that color, and decided to stick it out, rather than endure the waste and expense of starting over. No kid would be less likely to buy it because of the saber color, so what did it matter?
