I think Bubba means that they don't mess up anything, and its explained in the book he mentioned. And the 'members' added into the SE probably wern't on the Sail Barge. No room.

Correct, Wedge 88. Besides, GL didn't decide to add them in even if he had the choice. So no, the extras weren't on board, but they helped the Max Rebo Band escape Tatooine, however.
