Halloween Party & Meeting

1. Elections were held:

a. Chris Maher – President

b. Dawn Kerman– VP

c. Jennifer May – Secretary/Treasurer

d. Allen Townsend – Historian

e. John Hughes – Events Coordinator



2. Dues: Will be $5 per family per meeting. This will help with advertising for Galacticon



3. Rebel Legion: John Detmeyer came to our meeting today from Freedom Base to let us know about their Regional chapter of Rebel Legion and to let us know that as they are increasing their events and trooping opportunities they are reaching out to local groups such as ours to invite us to participate. Also just an FYI it takes them between 4 days to 2 ½ weeks to approve costumes for membership.

b. Air & Scare @ Chantilly: Oct 27

c. Richmond Christmas Parade: 1st Saturday of December (8am muster, 10am step off, followed by group photo and lunch)

i. Still looking for donations for their Christmas Parade enrollment fee

d. Sheva Con: Feb 17-19 in Roanoke



4. Recent Events:

a. Alzheimer’s Walk – October 14. Chris, John & Allen represented us well! Thanks guys!

b.

5. Upcoming Events:

a. MakersFaire: Oct 20, Norfolk Scope. Setup is 7:30-9:30, fair starts at 10 (til 5). They invited us because a lot of us make our own props/costumes – works in progress welcome for showing off!

b. Zoo Boo: Oct 27, 10-3. Probably will not have to pay to get in (TBD)

c. Blood Drive at Pembroke Mall: Oct 28, 12-5 (Still waiting for a call about this to confirm event)

d. Norfolk Parade – Regal Cinemas has asked TA to take part in the Hobbit float. Will be November 17th. New line cinemas will be providing some stuff for the float, as a marketing ploy for the movie J This is not at this time a TA event – Chris will be getting more information on that.

e. Toys for Tots Car Show – Sunday Dec 9 10a-3p (see FB post) – Porstmouth, VA

f. Hobbit Premiere: We are a GO! Will be December 14 & 15 (the midnight showing will be Dec 13). Time is TBA, as is whether we can wear our weapons peace-tied or need to just display. We will have cards warning of sharp edges of swords. Chris is trying to get a head count and what type of characters we will be – and remember, don’t break the bank! J

g. Galacticon: Tentatively scheduled for March 30 at the VB Central Library (if Chesapeake Library agrees to host, we will talk about switching at a future meeting)



6. Group Reminder: We are not a costuming group, we are a fan force. Having a costume or not is YOUR choice. But at events where we represent the TA in costume (often times along side national groups such as the 501st and Rebel Legion), our costumes must be at a certain level, or you may wear a Star Wars T-shirt. Please have your costume looked at by Chris.



7. Halloween Party was held after business – WONDERFUL FOOD! Especially that Halloween cake! J We also took a group photo for those that brought their costumes – everyone looked great!



8. Future Meetings:

a. November 4th Chesapeake Library 2-4
b. December 5th Chesapeake Library 2-4 Lord of the rings costumes if you have them (Also our TA Christmas party )

 

Update on The Hobbit premier: All costumed events at Regal Cinemas in VA Beach have been cancelled. This is due to two indiviuals going to the Columbus Station theater wearing masks and scaring everyone.

 

Correction the dues are 5.00 single or family once per year. Only to help with print materials for Galacticon.
