Orleans or Sam's Town?

I hear they both have Digital Projection.

Sam's is really nice, I saw LorR there.

A couple of friends of mine who will be joining me in costume want to go to Sam's rather than the Orleans.

Midnight showing at Sam's, anyone?

 

Well, I saw TPM at the Orleans and had a great time, and was kinda hoping to relive the experiance.

The Orleans is my favorite theater.

I guess we're both kinda biased. Lets take a vote!

I didn't see Sam's Town on the list of sanctioned digital theaters, so my vote is for the Orleans

 

While Sam's is not listed as having DLP on the Texas Intruments link, they are advertising themselves as having DLP. My guess is that Texas Instruments haven't updated their site yet to include Sams Town.

 

I just spoke to a gentleman at the Sam's Town main office for the theatre who assured me they do have ONE digital projection and surround sound theatre and that is where the movie will be shown.

I vote Sam's Town, easier for our babysitter and on the gas tank. Plus it's a nicer theatre than the Orleans.

No info on when the tix go on sale yet.

There's no buckling going on here. I discussed this with Lady Obi-wan earlier. Since Sam's Does have a digital projection theater this theater will do. And it is easier for us. So Sams town it is.

What a surprising turn of events!

 

I dont really care what theater so whatever you guys decide is fine with me.

 

My Sam's Town DLP Experience:

When Ice Age came out, I decided that I needed to see the Clone Wars trailer on the big screen. I noticed that Sam's was advertising Digital Picture and Sound in the paper. I didn't even realize there were any digital screens in Vegas - having just recently moved here.

I drove down to Sam?s Town Century 18 theaters to catch the 11:30 showing. I thought this would be the best time to do it. With school still in session there couldn?t be too many little brats running around As I entered the theater I eyed a few more single guys sitting by themselves anxiously waiting for the trailers to begin. Ah, some of my Jedi brethren practicing patience, I thought to myself.

Finally the familiar sound of static started emanating from the front speakers and something started to appear on the screen. Ok, here we go! Not so fast. The first thing that popped up on the screen was a Nickelodeon cartoon with audio from the Scooby Doo trailer. Hmm?this doesn?t seem right. Plus, the house lights are still at full brightness. Ok, just a hiccup. Finally the real Scooby Doo trailer comes up with the audio intact. Hurray! Not so fast. The audio started to slow way down and Scooby did his best impression of a 45 playing at 33rpms.

After the sound died the screen went black. Uh oh. We waited about 30 seconds then the slide show advertisements came back on the screen. About 10 seconds after that the trailers started playing again over the top of the ads. Crap! Whew, it?s not the AOTC trailer it?s some Dreamworks cartoon. I sure hope they get it right for Star Wars! They finally turned off the ads and adjusted the vertical alignment so the trailer fit the screen. For a moment I thought maybe Scooby Doo himself was running the projector. Finally the lights dimmed and we were back on track. Two more trailers down, no trouble. Then, finally, the famous 20th Century Fox logo and the wondrous John Williams score came across like a breath of fresh air! Whoohoo! The trailer looked incredible! And it was the right one! I must say that watching a digital movie was like watching DVD or HDTV for the first time. The clarity was amazing.

All of the visuals looked perfect and crisp. Comments about some of the scenes where actors did not mesh with the background, which I did see in the QuickTime version of the trailer, simply weren?t there. Yoda looked excellent, the Clone Trooper scene was amazing, and the end of trailer war was breathtaking! Basically, I just can?t wait to see this movie, more now than ever before! The trailer ended with the astonished audience. I heard many kids telling their parents to mark their calendars for this one.

Ok, now for the feature. Well, it didn?t exactly go as planned either. There was no sound during the THX intro and that continued on for about the first 5 minutes of the film. Yuck! All in all a great experience but it could have ended in disaster if they hadn?t got that trailer right. I wasn?t too worried about Ice Age although it was a very enjoyably little flick. Hopefully Century Theaters will have their act together come May 16th.

I'm not trying to influence your decision guys, just filling you in on my Sam's Town DLP experience.

Ha Ha! Raith buckled first! (Just kidding Dear!)

Well...that's quite a story and I think Darth Raith and I may have been at the same showing as you, however, we have been to just about every theater in this city, good and bad. We also happen to know someone who used to be a Projection Supervisor for a local theater, when stuff goes wrong, it just goes wrong. Digital or not. Since both theater's show digital picture and sound, it really all comes down to which casino you don't mind trudging thru and who lives closer to what.

Sam's is a nicer theater, the Orleans is kinda old, and it's easier for us. Well there's my vote again.

 

Sam's also has a much, much nicer and larger area to stand around in costume before you enter the theater.

And have lightsaber battles.

 

Well, unless somebody comes in her and votes for the Orleans, I looks like Sam's Town is the official Theater of Episode 2. Now, we have to find out when to pick up our tickets!

 

My vote definatly goes to Sam's Town.
