Found issue 1 in Books and More today. Should be at Whitcoulls etc as well.

When you subscribe, you get a free mouse pad, 25th anniversary cap, t-shirt and mug.
    Pretty sweet.

I was at a Whitcoulls branch today. I looked briefly at the books and there was no new Star wars ones.

Are these Fact Files shelved with the magazines???

It's shelved with the magazines, down the bottom, as it's in a big red piece of cardboard. Just don't do what I did and pick it up by the bottom, because it contains four leaflets, and they fell everywhere. :)

e: to subscribe, you need a credit card.
It's issued every week, and they charge you for four issues once per month. You can cancel your subscription at any time.
I think you have to subscribe for the first eight issues in order to get the free gifts.

I haven't had the time to read them yet, but everything looks good quality. And the map of the galaxy you get with issue 1 is cute :)

I'll have to have a hunt for Issue 1 today. [face_plain]

I don't like subscribing - you end up with ripped, soggy magazines coming through the careless postal system. It's much better to get them from the shop (if possible).

You should be able to get each issue from your local bookshop and even get them to put a copy of each issue under the counter for you.

I might go down to the PaperPlus shop that gets a copy of the UK Star Wars magazine for me to see if they have/can get this as well.

Since it's a NZ subscription and not having to deal with overseas travel, I decided to subscribe.

The lady on the other end of the phone said that there were 75 issues in total, so ...
    1 issue @ $1.50 + 74 issues @ $6.95 = $515.80.
    At least it's only 4 x $6.95 = $27.80 per month.

75 issues @ 1 issue every week = 75 weeks = approx. 1.5 years (taking into account a Christmas break).

I wonder what happens about Episode III stuff??

Also, you do NOT have to subscribe to enter the competition to win a "limited edition pewter Boba Fett statue worth over NZ$1,660". All you need to do is send your name and address to ...

    Freepost 104359
    De Agostini Publishing Limited
    PO Box 47-906

But, don't bother entering because I'm going to win. :p

I think I'll subscribe just long enough to get the free stuff, then bail out.

It's a shame they don't offer a 'lite' version, which is purged of EU :)

These are roughly A4 size pages to go in a binder - you get the binder free with issue #2 and the section dividers free with issue #4.

Evidently, the Aussies were offered the Windows version of the Shadows of the Empire game as one of their freebies, but stock ran out and they only got T-shirts. [face_plain]

Nope. It's actually an Italian "magazine" ... :)
Main Website OR Star Wars Fact Files
(Note: these websites are in Italian!!)

But we get the UK version ...
Main Website OR Star wars Fact Files

    :)

I found they weren't on the magazine shelves at the Milford Whitcoulls, but were next to the counter, so you might have to look around (I only saw them on the way out after I'd given up on them being at that branch). ALL of them had backing cards that were damaged, some worse than others, but these are probably throw-aways for most people anyway.

something which is a bit annoying is that the magazines seem to have been done pre-AOTC. In the section on Sith, there's no mention of Darth Tyranus. Actually, I couldn't really find any of the Episode II characters, and the designer of the Death Star was listed as an EU character, and not the Geonosians.

Really, it's a shame they don't just want and do something definitive after Ep III comes out.

Still, it's a nice mag, and I'll probably subscribe.

    > the magazines seem to have been done pre-AOTC

I haven't had time to check the "magazine" that thoroughly yet, but the Galactic Map does show Kamino and Geonosia (next door to Tatooine).

But you're right, I'm pretty sure these were been available overseas before Episode II. :(

This is one reason why I won't be buying any more "Essential Guide" or "reference" books until after Episode III - even then the novels/comics will still be adding more.
