    Pirates 4 trailer: Pirates 4

Looks like a few fx shots in there too. Go ILM and MPC!

The lizard gets a full length trailer: Rango

I really like the variety of characters this film seems to have. Nice animation and looks great too.

I will bet Transformers 3's moon sequence will look sweet in 3D.

I'm not sure what to think about I am Number Four. It almost has a Twilight with aliens feel to it.

It's has actually been described that way by the press. Courtesy of that Million Little Pieces guy (Frey, Fray?). Probably the only worthwhile thing will be the VFX.

Yeah he was on Oprah and had a huge bestseller because of that, turns out his autobiographical book had several lies and exagerations. He seems to like controversy there was an article a few weeks ago that mentioned he has this publishing compnay with some draconian contracts with their young writers.

Anyway, went to see narnia in stereo 3D. Lo and behold that trailer for Transformers 3 played in 3D and that Moon sequence looked awesome. The movie will probably be stupidier than the previous one but visually looked stunning.

Cool! It looked great in regular 2D.

But this....The movie will probably be stupider than the previous one

Made me [face_laugh] Is that even possible that it could be worse?

Am I accurate in taking from that video that Verbinski shot the film with the actors first and then directed ILM? It's like he directed two films. One with the actors and one with ILMers.

I was expecting Depp in a jumpsuit akin to Nighy in the Pirates' films. So did they not use imocap for the film or was it just all keyframe?

Yeah it was shocking hearing about Grant McCune.

Yes Verbinski more or less directed the film twice. Yes, Rango is all keyframe. There was confussion during the initial annoucement because both John Knoll and Hal Hickel were involved, so many places incorrectly reported that they used iMocap with vague references to capturing Depp's performance. The film does look amazing.

The only thing not clear from that video is if they used any other witness cameras.

I was wondering that too. You would think they would for extra reference.

Where did they shoot the film?

Maybe the Paramount lot? Though Knoll mentions that for using their virtual camera setup (for stage scenes) they used the ILM stages.

    mod edit: corrected wording

Yeah I don't know. I just watched that video and thought it might be some mo cap stage without the mocap but then they could use any old stage if they weren't doing mocap. So it might've been Paramount. And you also mentioned ILM's stages and they have the room to shoot things the size of what was in that video.

It's almost like a stage play they shoot and then turn around and create the film based on that stage performance. Different.

I meant to say staging, not stain :p. I guess we'll have to wait for interviews with the actors to see if they mention it. The only thing that made me suspect a regular lot was thay they might have all those setpieces and props readily available. Who knows.

Nah I knew what you meant by stain. Trust me, I'm a master of editing my own typing. ;)

I "Special Editioned" your post too.

Digital technology frees me up to make these changes. Now, I can go back and change wording so posters can say what they really wanted to say the first time. :p
