The lights were low. Kyp had worked hard to make this evening a success; his com-pager was off and tucked down in the bottom drawer in his apartment.

Liz looked exquisite with her hair falling about her shoulders.

He was tempted to forgo dinner altogether and get to the -- good part.

Liz's low laugh showed she'd caught his drift -- and agreed.

The karking cameras were on again, but Jaina knew how to circumvent that. She laughed secretively. Her aunt, Mirax, and her dad had taught her a few tricks.

She tweaked a few wires, and pressed a few buttons so that it would look like she'd never been there.

She grinned and tapped lightly at Jag's office door.

His green eyes laughed as he opened the door to her and drew her inside.

The action on the screen was a blur as Corran looked with misgivings at the oaf who was playing in in the holo-drama "The Jedi and the Pirates."

Mirax, who was sipping from his drink but with her own straw, laughed. "My dad doesn't like the fool they got to play him either and he says that the Errant Venture looks more purple than red."

"At least they got the Pulsar Skate halfway decent." Corran remarked wryly.

The roll of thunder was ominous in the distance. Luke grinned as he dismissed the afternoon classes.

Tionne laughed and winked.

"Glad for an early exit, are you, Luke?" She teased.

He flushed but didn't deny it.

He left and went to Mara's office.

She was finishing up one of the daily rounds of reports.

"Hey gorgeous." He greeted her.

She grinned, her jade eyes dancing. "You want something." She remarked.

He closed the door, and locked it. "Yes, I do, actually." He admitted and proceeded to show her just -- who.

A photo shoot wasn't something that Leia relished, not in the slightest. She didn't want to have her face plastered all over the news vids.

She was all too glad therefore to send the Hapan delegation packing with a sharp refusal. She then told Horm where he could take his marriage alliances and stick it.

Then she went to scout out Han and give him the good news.

His reaction - he gave a whoop and twirled her around gleefully.

"I don't want any pretty boy Hapan, just you." Leia avowed sincerely.

Kyp was bored by longwinded Council meetings, so he was always glad to have an excuse to go off on a mission that required all his skills of quick thinking and saber agility.

What made it even more invigorating was having Nikk along as an accomplice.

Nikk would have balked at that description, but it suited.

Still, the best part of the adventure was coming home again.

He was home barely 30 minutes when Liz came home. He was in the shower, feeling all the knots untie, definitely looking forward to a romantic evening.

Feeling her radiant presence so close, it was marvelous!!

A light rap came on the 'fresher door, and he slid the door aside to find her clad only in a towel and smile.

"Well, hello." She grinned, kissing him.

He couldn't pull her in fast enough.

"You make this look like an art and a science." Tahiri grinned.

Anakin tweaked a few wires and toggled a few switches.

The R7 unit purred to life, its photoreceptors glowing.

"What shall we call it?" He asked his fiance.

She laughed, her green eyes dancing. "Ardy?" She suggested.

He raised a mystified brow at her and decided they needed more name searching.

When Luke discovered that Mara's "relationship" with Lando had all been an elaborate fiction, he was startled by how relieved he felt over the fact.

Mara, an astute and observant lady, caught the relieved glint in his eyes and felt a thrill. She hadn't known until that very moment how much it mattered to Luke whom she was seeing or had feelings for.

When Mara thought about it, however, she'd been royally chapped even as far back as that emergency pick-up when she'd helped rescue Luke and he'd been mooning all over Callista.

She had squelched those feelings and deliberately denied their import.

It was a riotous comedy: the latest pranking war between the Rogues and the Wraiths.

Iella rolled her eyes as she and Mirax had lunch together.

"Will they ever grow up?" She mused.

"Ha!" Mirax laughed. "With a sizable number of Correllians - what do you think?"

Iella smirked. "Silly question." She admitted. "And then there's Wes, a catastrophe all by himself!"

Playing catch up.

The wings of the bird were translucent and shimmered. The sky above was a deep azure blue, mirrored in the lake beneath.

Floating leisurely along in a quietly humming motor-skiff, Wedge was glad of a little bit of relaxation.

Iella smirked at him as she took a sip of her cold drink. "Nice to get away isn't it?"

"Away from the clamoring idiots wanting the Rogues to be in 10 places at once? You know it." He answered with a laugh.

Mara had always felt closed off and unforgiven - downright unforgivable for the things she'd done in her past. Somehow, she never believed that "just following orders" and "I was merely a child/pawn" were reasons enough.

Luke's accepting love had eased some of the ache and emptiness, and her new circle of friends completed the feeling of new beginnings and possible healings.

When she saw herself as reflected in their eyes, she was amazed at the beauty she saw there.

To say that their relationship had been rocky to start with -- Jaina laughed. That was an understatement of the past hundred or so years.

But Jagged had captured her notice but good. Gorgeous right down to the ground with those sculpted muscles of his and those laughing green eyes -- Oh yes, and the way he looked in his uniform -- especially from behind --



All the other ones who'd buttered up to her were crashing bores, but she knew instantly he would never be, and he never had been.

The repercussions were titanic to say the least! A fractured Galactic Alliance with half splitting to go with the New Empire and the other unseating Daala in less than a month with a vote of no confidence.

The Imperial Knights soon took over the role of the former Jedi -- in function and in altruism, not being tainted by all the infighting and indecision.

That is, until Kyp Durron became Grand Master and whipped them all back into shape again.

Samira put on her most innocent air to favor her folks with if they should happen to come in to investigate the source of the sound.

They had been trying to make cupcakes and something had just blown up, and now smoke was filling the kitchen and alarms were blaring as the automatic extinguishers went off.

Serena said: "Let's get Ben to clean up this icky mess."

"How're we gonna do that?" Samira asked.

Oh, but sometimes guys could be dense as duracrete, so absent of a single clue.

Jaina sighed in commiseration at Tahiri and Tenel Ka, who were grousing about how thickheaded both of her brothers could be.

"Well, you'll just have to be up front with them and let them know your feelings first."

This suggestion appealed to the forthright Tenel Ka immensely, but the more reticent Tahiri balked, until she thought of Anakin's warm heart and crystal-blue eyes.

Then she grinned and capitulated.

"yes, Jaina." She said softly. "That appears necessary if we're gonna get anywhere!"

The operation for taking out the bounty hunters went off without a hitch or not much of one, with the ever-resourceful Wraiths and Rogues.

There was a betting pool as to which squadron had taken out the outposts first and most efficiently.

Had it been the strafing runs with the turbos or the ground-based grenades?

Any excuse to blow something up, Wedge thought wryly. Little boys with their toys. !!

Life was peaceful on Deyer. It was slower-placed and gentle, like its inhabitants. The ocean and the light breeze soothed away all anxious cares and niggling thoughts.

Kyp and Liz always made it a habit to bring their family there at least once a year for 4 weeks.

Their grandmother spoiled the kids shamelessly.

It was a blessing they hadn't expected or hoped for, but they cherished it.

Neither Han or Luke liked to be on the outs with their life-mates. They would apologize with "I'm sorry!" and their wives' favorite snacks, etc. It was a shameless and blatant attempt at softening and smoothing over.

"Hey!" Han would muse: "Being cozy with Leia is too much fun to waste time with her being annoyed."

Luke would think: "Being on Mara's bad side is downright scary!" As opposed to --

"It's a risk we have to take." Jysella told her brother Valin. "We have to get Ben out of there."

"That Sith-spawn Vestara's got her hooks in him but good." Valin observed.

Jysella's bright eyes flashed. She'd had a crush on Ben since they were kids growing and training together. If it was the last thing she did, she would win Ben back after they got him out of the present tight he was in...

She wasn't Mirax's daughter for nothing!!

Leia was rated among the most eloquent speakers ever to grace the Senate and then the New Republic Council.

She was eloquent and sincere, impassioned and idealistic, without being gullible or naïve.

She won the allegiance and loyalty and faith of many worlds because when she spoke, it wasn?t rhetoric or self-interest speaking.

Under the guidance of the Fels, the New Empire flourished. The Imperial Knights had all the strengths of the Jedi Order without its insularity and infighting. Jaina?s strong hand made sure of that. Her balanced life of career and family was inspiring to those who followed her lead. She was very happy she had said ?yes? to Jag and stopped shilly-shallying.

When Luke suggested or requested that Mara help him out with a few holocrons surrounding the world of Byss and the Emperor, he did it only because of her specialized knowledge and access to secrets known to none other.

Whenever Mara thought of it later, she didn?t know why she had agreed.

Was it perhaps she couldn?t resist those baby-blues?

They threw caution to the winds and went investigating. They unearthed a lot of trouble and more questions than answers.

They found a few new Force sensitives along the way.

Luke and Mara discovered they were a wonderful working team.

They also discovered something else along the way ? a heart full of love.

Anakin smirked and they sneaked into the lab to tweak a few programs in the development of an R4 astromech.

By the time they were finished, not only did the droid prototypes have more memory capacity and intuitive resources, but a stronger snark capacity ? to deal with pesky protocol counterparts.
