The Comic Book Mini-Draft 1.0 / Rise of the Scrubs - drafting in progress

Deep in the outer most reaches of space and time, an immensely powerful race of beings known as the GMs gathered to compete against each other to determine who among them was the greatest. To do this, they would each assemble a team of the mightiest heroes and most vile villains in the known multiverse, and pit them against each other in deadly combat! The heroes, powerless to defy the almighty GMs, were given whatever motivation they needed to fight. For some, it would be the destruction of their homes, for others, the promise of power and riches. And so, unable to resist and with the fate of their respective worlds on their shoulders, they fought. These are those fights.

This is the first installment of the Comic Book Character Mini-Draft!

I am your host, Despised1, and you are those GMs. You will choose your champions. You will compete for the most elusive prize in all of the known universes. To be crowned ultimate champion of the mighty GMs!

As a reward, you will receive three days of colors and a title, as well as handshakes all around. As well as enshrinement into the CBMD HoF.

Let's take a look at how such a thing as a draft is played:

If you're new to this type of game, don't be put off by the length of this post explaining all the rules. It's as long as it is because I want to make sure that everything is clear to everyone before we get started. It's really not all that complicated when you break it all down. If you think you might be interested, go ahead and sign up, then come back and read up on the rules and procedures. Then, if you think it's all too much for you, (which I don't think it should be for anyone) you can always just say that you're not up to it and vacate your spot.

Okay, now for how the game works (A lot of you may be familiar with most of this, but I'm going to go into detail for anyone who may be new to the game):

THE POSITIONS

Okay, first off, there are two different positions in this draft:

The Commissioner: (That's me ). I get the boring job of randomizing the draft order, posting the match ups when we get to that point, enforcing the rules and basically pulling all of the strings that make this thing work. If you have any further questions about the draft that isn't explained in this post, feel free to ask me, either in the thread or via PM. Or on the phone. Or via telegram. Or the pony express. Or telepathy. Just make sure you get it to me.

The Judges/GMs: There will be eight Judge/GM spots up for grabs. As a GM, it's your responsibility to draft a team from the draft list, come up with a team name and assign numbers to your characters once the matches start. But I'll explain all that in more detail as I go on.

It is also a GM?s responsibility to help decide who wins a given fight. Decisions should be given based on a point system, if a judge thinks a match is a draw the decision given should be 5-5, the character earning the most points at the end of 48 hours is declared the winner. All decisions are final. In case of a tie, the commissioner will make the final decision, breaking the tie.

STEP 1: THE DRAFT
Once all the positions are filled, and the next batch of the glorious race of GMs is created, I'll randomize the draft order and post the list from which the GMs will draft their teams. There will be 10 rounds of drafting, which of course means that each team will consist of at least 10 characters. The draft order will also reverse after each round. This is so that the people in the lower part of the first round aren't getting the shaft by giving them picks that are closer together.

Example:

Drat, I suppose I could have removed them as well.....or not. Wasn't too sure what to do there. I will put up the final list once we have all the GM's, to be honest I will probably put the team picks back in. I tended to agree with Durron in the Discussion thread about not taking them out.

I think I might actually miss playoffs this time. I don't have time to research all these people.

 

There really is something exciting about dealing with a list of unknowns, not that they are really unknowns...but to have no formula as to who should go when...that is kinda exciting.

PS: Just to be clear before any picks have been made, we are judging characters as current (excluding death and depowers) rather than peak. Any questions please ask./
