Almost all soundtracks are tacked on at the end of post production. Director and musician Tom Tykwer(Run Lola Run, Perfume, The International and Cloud Atlas)writes his soundtracks before filming.

This is interesting to me for many reasons but foremost because I think that most soundtracks are influenced heavily by other soundtracks that are used to fill in during editing or whatever before the composer writes the score. Which in my opinion leads to alot of generic sounding movies.

So do you think Tykwer's method has led to more interesting and/or creative soundtracks?

Do you think it helps the production of a film to have this element in place for the read throughs and the editors?

Do you know of any other movies made this way?

The -Qatsi movies (music by Philip Glass) went through several iterations of matching the visuals to the music and vice versa. That's fairly similar.
