Let me clarify that question a bit:

These two artists were already well established and had created some of the most stunning pieces of LOTR artwork around, and in fact inspired a lot of what you see in the films, even before the idea of making the film was introduced. Peter Jackson continued to use these pieces all through the production of the trilogy.

 

Answer to Question 10: Alan Lee and John Howe were instrumental in helping Peter Jackson bring the vision of Lord of the Rings to the big screen through their talent and skill as artists.
