I think he meant in the PT era. I'm not completely positive, but in the Jedi Apprentice series, Qui Gon's old apprentice, Xanatos, leaves the Jedi on his own. They respected his decision, and years later he surfaced, having turned to the dark side.

But, that didn't really answer your question. I'm not sure what they do when they kick them out.

well, in the PT, only twenty left the Jedi Order.

These "Lost Twenty" left of their own free will, and I doubt the Jedi stopped them. They are not the Empire, they don't hold people against their will.

still, all they do is beat them if they come back as Sith.

Well, the "Lost Twenty" didn't turn to the darkside... Er, except for Dooku, and whoever else might end up badies in E3... But, the point is the Jedi didn't know that. Had they known that Dooku was going to lop off the Jedi protigal child's arm, they might have done things differently.

I say you should make him watch the GFFA Telletubbies until he repents.

Okay I guess I'll have to butt in and look like the mega geek here. 8-}

From the Star Wars Essential Guide To Chronology:

Jedi Valiancy
600-400 B.B.Y

"Even without the influence of the Sith, some Jedi Knights were seduced by evil. The Jedi Council rarely executed these fallen Jedi, preferring instead to banish the offenders in the hopes that, in primitive isolation, they might focus on their Masters' teachings and return to the light." (Excerpt from a column)

That's how the Nightsister's of Dathomir came about too. [face_happy]

It wasn't really a problem.
The ones who didn't like the Jedi Order, just up and left, and that was that.

The other's started causing trouble, therefore Jedi had to go in, and usually somebody ended up getting killed.
(normally the Dark Jedi)
