My most favorite piece of music EVER in the history of mankind is The Trio by Ennio Morricone. It's creepy, gives me the goose bumps and kind of poetic.

P.S. When I say music, I don't mean any songs, I mean from movies or by composers. :-D

I would have to say the fourth movement of Dvorak's Ninth Symphony...the whole symphony isn't bad either.

Probably Duel of the Fates by John Willaims or Anakin's theme.

I don't know about composers or classical music, but I would say the greatest piece of popular music ever is the Beatles triumphant, industry changing 45 from 1967: Strawberry Fields Forever b/w Penny Lane. That and Brian Wilson's (of the Beach Boys) masterpiece album, "Pet Sounds".
These and other pieces can stand their own against Mozart, Williams and other great composers, I feel.

Pet Sounds is a great album. I love "I Guess I Just Wasn't Made For These Times". I think one of the best pieces of music is "Rhapsody in Blue" by George Gershwin.

    "Rimsky-Korsakov: Scheherazade"--LMM

Wow, that's a really good one. I swear someone could make a movie off of that piece alone. My favorite is Scriabin's Third Symphony the "Divine Poem." I also like Also Sprach Zarathustra by Richard Strauss, the whole thing and not just the opening fanfare. I guess you can say I really like symphonic tone poems.

I'd have to say that the 3rd track on the R/K CD I have, I believe it's titled "The Young Prince and the Young Princess" is by far the single most beautiful piece of music I have ever heard.

What is an R/K CD? A sampler of somekind? If so, then I believe you are talking about one of the movements from Stravinsky's "Firebired" suite.

I'm pretty sure R/K refers to Rimsky-Korsakov and that third track is the third movement to Scheherzade.

Edit: And yes that movement is really beautiful.

Scheherazade is an awesome piece of music. A friend of mine is playing it at a solo\ensemble festival. He plays oboe and it adds that Arabian sound to it.

Looks like this is becoming a battle between Scheherazade and Rhapsody in Blue.

I'll throw in another beautiful piece that shouldn't be missed:
    Ravel's "La Valse"

I had the honor of attending last year's Centennial celebration of Symphony Hall in Boston and the musical director of the BSO, Seiji Ozawa, conducted the piece at the very end of the program. It was the first time I had heard that piece and I was floored.
