Amph What was the last book you bought?

If you like zombies, you'll probably like it. I'm not particularly high on the book myself, though.

Bought A Game of Thrones; looking forward to reading it when I have enough time to finish Jericho Moon first. ( to school)

 

Picked up more books today, like I didn't have enough waiting for me to read

L.E. Modesitt: The Lord-Protector's Daughter (Corean Chronicles book 7)
Brandon Sanderson: Elantris, Mistborn, and Well of Ascension.

 

Yes!! By the way, the Mistborn trilogy is better (though Elantris is good too).

 

I bought every copy that Books-A-Million had on the shelves of books by Sanderson.

... that was one copy each of three books, but it sounds funnier to say it that way

 

I really need to check that out sometime

Why'd you replace your old ones?

 

They were falling apart...my copy of Dune was over 30 years old, and I needed to return it to my dad anyways.

 

I had to do that with LotR not so long ago.. very well-read copies, they were.

That's a different thing entirely - the first Harry Potter came out decades after my old copy of LotR was printed. For HP to already need replacing... wow

 

I read them a lot. I mean, not as much as Icepaw , but a lot, and those hardcover copies aren't very good.

Oh gods, the Harry Potter hardcovers aren't well bound at all...

I do have several 30-50 year old books in my collection though. I'm currently reading a 35 year old Laurel Leaf Edition of Dracula.

 

I prefer new additions. I tend to lug books around in my purse, so older books scare me because I don't want to hurt them.

 

It pains me to see people reading books with the front cover folded around behind the book... its like the spine is crying out in pain.

Oh, I hate that. Or leaving books upside down as a place marker. Get a bookmark! Or barring that, do what I do and use whatever's handy (my ID, my sheets, my sister's homework . . .).

 

Yes, please use a bookmark! I have an entire shoebox full of bookmarks (and at times, have been using the vast majority of them)

 

Better to simply remember where you were, in my opinion. I haven't used a bookmark in years. I usually flip straight to the place where I stopped and continue on.

As for taking care of books, I feel deeply for them. I value books more than most people (and by that, I mean books to me are more important than most of the people I meet). I'm a complete bibliophile, and I literally dance around holding my books like in Read Or Die or something.

 

I read too many books and too fast to always remember exactly where I am, though if a bookmark falls out, I can usually find the right page quick enough. Its harder when its something I've read several times before, because then its not "is it familiar" but "did I get this far this time through?"
