Hey, I was just reading a book about WWII and I had a sudden urge to make a RPG about it, so here it is.

Please NOTE : All rules of the RPG and the TOS must be followed, there are NO acceptions whatsoever.

    - What the GM says, goes. [Face_Tongue]

    - High ranking officials and the GM will have power over players, but if someone has an objection or suggestion, they will not be able to override it.

    - This thread is NOT Intending to be racist. The people who are on the opposing sides are NOT to be discriminated against. After all, it is only an RPG.

    - So far we only have army ranks, we may have more depending on how many people join.

    - We are making this Britain and American against Germany for the sake of the RPG.

    - Your Character sheet must be approved by the GM before you post. PM me with sheets.

Background WWII : World War II, also WWII, or the Second World War, was a global military conflict that took place in 1939?1945. It was the largest and deadliest war in history, culminating in the Holocaust and the dropping of the atom bomb.

Even though Japan had been fighting in China since 1937, the conventional view is that the war began on September 1, 1939, when Nazi Germany invaded Poland. Within two days the United Kingdom and France declared war on Germany, even though the fighting was confined to Poland. Pursuant to a then-secret provision of its non-aggression Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact, the Soviet Union joined with Germany on September 17, 1939, to conquer Poland and to divide Eastern Europe.

The Allies were initially made up of Poland, the United Kingdom, France, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, as well as British Commonwealth countries which were controlled directly by the UK, such as the Indian Empire. All of these countries declared war on Germany in September 1939.

Following the lull in fighting, known as the "Phony War", Germany invaded western Europe in May 1940. Six weeks later, France, in the mean time attacked by Italy as well, surrendered to Germany, which then tried unsuccessfully to conquer Britain. On September 27, Germany, Italy, and Japan signed a mutual defense agreement, the Tripartite Pact, and were known as the Axis Powers.

Nine months later, on the June 22, 1941, Germany launched a massive invasion of the Soviet Union, which promptly joined the Allies. Germany was now engaged in fighting a war on two fronts. This proved to be mistake by Germany-many historians believe that if Germany had successfully carried out the invasion of Britain and put forth their best effort, the war may have turned in favor of the Axis.

On December 7, 1941, Japan attacked the United States at Pearl Harbor, bringing it too into the war on the Allied side. China also joined the Allies, as eventually did most of the rest of the world. China was in turmoil at the time, and attacked Japanese armies through guerilla-type warfare. By the beginning of 1942, the major combatants were aligned as follows: the British Commonwealth, the United States, and the Soviet Union were fighting Germany and Italy; and the British Commonwealth, China, and the United States were fighting Japan. From then through August 1945, battles raged across all of Europe, in the North Atlantic Ocean, across North Africa, throughout Southeast Asia, throughout China, across the Pacific Ocean and in the air over Japan. - www.wikipedia.org

So WHEN exactly in the war is the RPG starting?

1943 North Africa when the Americans land on the Afrika Korps's western flank? or Post D-day in 1944? Cause there really isnt much time left in the war when the Americans finally got involved against Germany (we tend to get involved at the last minute dont we?).

OOC: And then take all the credit... :p

I'm with Mitthy on this, when exactly will our story start? And I think your ranks are bit unbalanced IMHO.
Either way, I look on with GREAT interest...

After pearl harbour, when the americans got involved. Or if you guys want, it could be during pearl harbour and the actual attack. I only posted the background for people who knew nothing about WWII. If you think the ranks are unbalanced, PM me with new/edited ranks along with a character sheet.

I'll edit making it more clear what time we are in.

The RPG will start when the ranks of the armies are near full, we need at least 3 NCO's and alot of basic troops for each Country.

EDIT : This is my first RPG, so forgive me if i'm a bit unorganized. PM me with all suggestions please.

EDIT 2 : If we are going to do during pearl harbour, we will have to create navy. You guys tell me when you want it to start, it doesn't really matter but the Americans have to be involved. If not, we would have to take the Americans out and that would leave Britain vs. Germany.

Or with a whole different approach, we could just have Britain and America Human Players, and the Germans could sort of play along with our attacks. It sounds a bit stupid to me now having eachother seeing all the posts about our attacks in plans, the enemy would always know what we're doing.

I say we have America and Britain, with German being a sort of AI, defending against our attacks. I will post Germany's attacks as a sort of Allied Spy behind enemy lines.

    Good idea?

Not really. If I join, I'm playing a German. I dont like the Allied weapons and vehicles and I'm more verse in the German side of the war anyway. Not to mention I can practice my German too :D

This is what you should do:

    1) Pick a start date. 1942? 1943? 1944? 1945?

    2) Now pick a campaign. African Campaign? Italian Campaign? Normandy Campaign? Rhine Campaign?

    3) Have so many play each side of the conflict. Like 5 Britains, 5 Americans, 5 Germans.

    4) Now come up with some missions for the campaign you have chosen. For example: It is several weeks after D-Day and the Allies have learned from the French Resistance of the vulnerability of Field Marshal Rommel's, the famed Desert Fox, routine. The mission: Assassinate or Capture Alive the German general at all costs. The Location: Normandy, France. The Men: a joint team of British and American commandos. The Help: the French Resistance. The Enemy: Field Marshal Rommel, Rommel's staff and the Panzergrenadier of Armeegruppe B.

That was an actual planned mission but Allied planes wounding the Field Marshal prior to the mission date prevented it from being carried out.

    5) Once you have created your mission(s), have players create unitless soldiers. The 101st Airbourne would not be assigned to abduct or kill a German Field Marshal. Neither would the 101st Airboune exist during the African and Italian Campaigns. By having unitless soldiers, it allows more freedom to the player and to the Game Master to move from one mission to the next.

    6) Keep officer ranks Captain or below for the side the mission is for. Anything higher is Battalion to Division commands and the game will get more complicated. If players play on the opposing side, and depending on the mission details, players can play a character as high as a Field Marshal/General BUT that player must be prepared to lose that character should they fail to foil the attacking enemy. For example: using the Rommel Kidnapping mission, a player gets to play Field Marshal Rommel for the Germans who is facing two commando teams, British and American, that are led by Captains.

    7) If at all possible, try to create your missions with a storyline in mind. Although the PC versions of Medal of Honor did not have a storyline, the PS2 versions did. Frontline was about stopping the production of the ME-262 Swallow Jet Fighters and the villian was some SS Obersturmbahnfuehrer (Colonel).

World War II is huge once you think about it. There are so many stories to play. So many campaigns to run. So many ideas to use. IMHO, any WWII game should be reduced to a single campaign with missions much like the video games are done.

I'm with Mitthy again, focus on the more 'squad' ranks.

Such as: Private, Corporal, Sergeant, all of those sorta things.

As for a date, I'd say we start in the Nth Africa campaign, 1942. Haven't had much of a shot at North Africa in my RPing days. As for the sides, we should keep the German side, but have it that they are fighting in a different location eg no Player VS Player conflicts.

    Theres my two cents...

As much as this sounds interesting, I think there needs to be a definate campaign selected. I'd like to suggest for the Western front maybe the day after D-day American campaign through the hedgerows in France; or for the Eastern front, maybe the Russian steamroller going through Prussia against the SS protecting Hermann Goering's estate?

I am trying to make the ranks more leaning towards the army and trying to choose a campaign. I am sort of leaning towards the afrika korps but i'm not sure yet. I'll PM everyone when I have finalized everything.

Well the thing is we cant play Normandy right now. There is already an RPG for that campaign. So all thats left is Africa, Italy, Germany (which the Overlord RPG will eventually lead into) or Russia.

I say Africa sounds like our best bet. Always wanted to have a go at fightin in places like El Alamein and Tobruk.

    Go you Rats of Tobruk!
That reminds me, if we do get to fight in Africa, must have a word about possibly fighting from the Australian point of view.

Alright, here is my revised version :

We are going to start in the North African Campaign, involving the Italians (Maybe), Germans, Americans and British. The main battle will be focused around Americans, British and Germans. The starting date is May 11th, 1942 because that is when the Americans came into North Africa to aid the british. On the German side, Field Marshall Erwin Rommell will be commanding the Afrika Korps in the desert. There will be an assassination/abduction attempt made on Rommell. If this is successfull, The Germans will launch a counter-attack on the Americans/British, whoever makes the abduction. Whoever is playing Rommell at the time will take the place of one of the German squads in the war, or a NCO.

I will be playing the role of Dwight Eisenhower, commander of the allied forces. Our main battles will be in libya and tunisia. We also may have some minor battles in other cities, but that is unlikley. There cannot be any "superhero" attacks that immediatley diminish the enemy forces. You will have to wait a while between attacks, feed the troops etc. We will obviously not be taking years to do this battle. I will decide how fast the time goes, depending on the battles.

    Ranks :

    Enlisted

    Private

    Private 2nd Class

    Sargeant

    Staff Sargeant

    2nd Lieutenant

    1st Lieutenant

    Colonel

    General

Mitt, will you be playing the role of Rommell/German Sargeant?

Everyone else, PM me your character sheets. Remember, anyone is allowed to be an officer, but I may have to move some people down to Lieutenant so we can get more action and time on the field.

    Sounds good?

Sounds good and yes I'll play Rommel. :D

whips out his Rommel books and brushes up on the Afrika Korps

And later a lower soldier if someone succeeds in getting him. Which I doubt. I'm just as crafty as he was.

Bio: The infamous Desert Fox of the North African campaign. He commanded and led the Afrika Korps through two years of stunning victories that placed both himself and the corps in the history books forever until his defeat at El Alamein in 1942. Respected both by his people and his enemies, Erwin Rommel has become exceptionally popular and is seen by Germany as a hero. He is the youngest officer to reach the rank of Field Marshal in German military history. He is also the winner of the Blue Max or Pour le Merite and the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross, both considered the highest awards an officer can receive. He would later be assigned the task of commanding the German forces in Italy and then later command Armeegruppe B in France to stop the coming Allied Invasion. It was he who improved the sham that was the Atlantic Wall into something that would later be costly to the Allies on June 6th, 1944. Rommel is married to Lucie-Maria Rommel and has one son, Manfred Rommel.

But a wound received in the cold hell of Russia forced him to return to Germany to recooperate. Not wishing to return to the Eastern Front any time soon, he requested a transfer to Field Marshal Rommel's command in Africa. There he stayed and fought throughout the year of 1942. During his time under the command of Rommel, his views and loyalties have changed. Although he was willing to lay down his life for the Reich and the Fuhrer, now he is willing to do the same for the Desert Fox. He also recently married his childhood sweetheart prior to being assigned to the 21st Panzer Division.
