This post isn't intended to be a troll for buyers. I just wanted some insight on the best way to sell my star wars toys. I was lucky that my mom bought 2 of some of the first toys, one for me to play with, and one to keep. With these items all sitting in a box in my attic, I figured with the release of the final movie it would be a good time to unload them on ebay.

I have 11 of the original 12 figures (missing the storm trooper) that have never been opened. Some are near mint, while others have crinckled bubbles/minor card damage. I've also got a bunch of loose figures--and taking pictures of each item and posting it on ebay is becoming pretty tedious.

Anyhow, I just wondered if there's anything I should look out for when selling these on ebay. I'd hate to have some rare han solo in mint condition and some lucky guy get it for $10. Is ebay the best way to sell these original 12-backs? or is there any other collecting places on the internet? Is there a good reference site to make sure my descriptions are accurate?

As it is now, I'm thinking I'm going to sell most of the loose figures in big batches.

    Any insight would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    No Worries

If you put up a list of your carded figures I can look them up in my price books. That will give you a ballpark figure of worth, though there is no guarantee you would get that price on Ebay. It might help you set a reserve though.
I think selling the loose figures in bunches is the best bet - you probably won't get much for them unless you have a rare one.

Carded (all vintage 1977 12 back, some in better condition then others)
    Darth Vader http://members.cox.net/~no-worries/vader_f.JPG
    Jawa http://members.cox.net/~no-worries/jawa_f.JPG
    C3PO http://members.cox.net/~no-worries/c3po_f.JPG
    Obi-Wan Kenobi http://members.cox.net/~no-worries/obiwan_f.JPG
    Sand People http://members.cox.net/~no-worries/sand_f.JPG
    Chewbacca http://members.cox.net/~no-worries/chew_f.JPG
    Han Solo http://members.cox.net/~no-worries/han_f.JPG
    Princess Leia http://members.cox.net/~no-worries/leia_f.JPG
    Luke Skywalker http://members.cox.net/~no-worries/luke_f.JPG
    R2-D2 http://members.cox.net/~no-worries/r2d2_f.JPG
    Death Squad Commander http://members.cox.net/~no-worries/death_f.JPG

    Other items of note:
I have a Boba Fett that was mail order only. The rocket does not fire, but I have him NIB as well as opened. http://members.cox.net/~no-worries/fett.JPG

I also have 2 of the collector's action stands--one of them is NIB (never opened, it's the box below the stand in the picture)
    http://members.cox.net/~no-worries/stand2.JPG

The rest of the stuff wouldn't go for as much, I don't think. I haven't set any reserves as of yet.

    Thanks!
    No Worries
P.S. if you want to see the back, replace the _f with _b. The .JPG is case sensitive, and if .JPG doesn't work, try .jpg. Thanks!

I know some of them arent worth a whole lot. I have seen some at collector shope in the $15-20 range but I think the Vader is the most valuable one. I saw an AFA graded one on ebay for $600 plus

I have never seen any carded figures that are that old and haven't yellowed at least some. The cards are damaged, but the bubbles look pristine.

I've been googling a little bit--would it be worth having some of the better condition ones afa graded?

To some people AFA grades may be of minor importance, however, these are Vintage figures with good looking packaging... I personally wouldn't put myself through the trouble and risk of doing it.

What's the risk? That they lose/damage/otherwise not return the figure? I was considering doing it for Darth Vader and Obi-Wan, as they are practically mint. Looking at ebay complete auctions the afa rated figures are going for a crazy amount of cash.

The risk is the figure getting damaged on the way over or on the way back. It's just not a position I'd risk myself in. Most of the AFA figures are being sold for more than the non-AFA figures, which doesn't necessarily mean that they'll sell for the asking price... and you could in fact possibly get more for an AFA figure... but it's a risk you'd have to be willing to take. I had a friend who's Vintage Stormtrooper from ANH got lost on the way back from AFA.

Ok - taking your list and using the Super Collectors Wishbook (3rd edition - 2005) here is what the book has for the MIB figures. All amounts are in US dollars:

Darth Vader - 625.00. Note - if you have the rare double telescoping saber version it's 8600.00
Jawa - cloth cape 425.00 plastic cape 3500.00
    C3PO - 425.00
    Obi-Wan Kenobi - gray hair - 710.00 white hair - 750.00 double telescoping saber 9600.00
    Sand People - 375.00
    Chewbacca - 360.00
Han Solo - large head 1000.00 small head 860.00
    Princess Leia - 625.00
Luke Skywalker - 750.00 double telescoping saber 4800.00
    R2-D2 - 425.00
    Death Squad Commander - 425.00

Boba Fett - 275.00 in package

On the display stand - I don't have a pic of this in any of the books, so I will assume it is the vintage display stand listed in the book. If it's in the mailer box - 300.00. If it's in a SW box - 350.00.

Boba Fett - 275.00 in package

There's a couple of Dagobah playsets listed under Micromachines. If this is the small Dagobah one with 5 figures and a X-Wing, Universe of Star Wars Collectables says 11.00 US. If it is the Yoda transforming action Dagobah playset, Universe says 15.00 US. The later Wishbook mentioned above is about 1 dollar off on each amount.

according to the latest Lee's AFN and TOY REVIEW
These prices are for mint on mint cards
I would say none of your figures qualify for that because they all have a little warping, bubble crunch, price stickers, hole punched and all of that.

    LUKE - $800
    LEIA - $800
    HAN - $825 -small head
-$1000 -big head I forgot to look to see which one you had

    C-3PO - $300
    R2-D2 - $400
Ben (white hair) - $800, (gray hair) -$700
    Vader - $600
    Chewie - $325
    Jawa - $285
    Sand People - $400
    Death Squad Commander - $375

Mail in action figure stand loose $35
    Mint in sealed box $350

There you go...good luck on EBAY

    Dennis

Not a big knife person, no. Sounds like you're either on or from the islands. I've been to Kauai twice--that's about it.

    Thanks for the info.

One last question about AFA. My obi-wan and darth vader are unpunched, the cards are in good shape (no creases) the bubbles are mint (no creases)--the only thing is they have price tags on them. Will that hurt the rating enough that it wouldn't be worth having them rated?

Whoa, look at those Wal-Mart price tags on the cards...$1.88. Those were the good ol' days! :)
