I've read some of Kubert's work on Tarzan, which is somewhat similar to this one, I'll bet. His art is generally great, very striking and energetic.

    Dell (September 1953)

"There would only be a few more new Pago comics after this special issue reprinting nearly 100 pages of classics from the 1940s "Animal Comics". But Pogo had a good run in comic and an even better one in the newspapers."

"Joe Kubert saw 3-D magazines while stationed Germany and came up with the idea of 3-D comics. With partners Norm Maurer, he converted an issue of Mighty Mouse into the format. It was a huge, instant and short-lived success."

    Writers: Ray Bradbury, Al Feldstein

    Artists: John Severin, Will Elder

    E. C. (September-October 1953)

"E.C.'s Ray Bradbury adaptations were among the finest comics stories ever. The restrictive comics code would end the partnership but, thankfully, not before this issue's "The Million Year Picnic" one of the author's best Martian tales."

Frank Frazetta and Al Williamson did the cover.

    Writers: Al Feldstein

    Artists: Reed Crandall

    E. C. (September-October 1953)

"To the end, EC brought its readers the best in horror. Set in 1867 Paris, "The High Cost of Dying" is a tale of a grieving husband who seeks the means to bury his wife before a corrupt official sells her body to medical students."

This is to be contrasted with the less successful Haunt of Mild Ap- wait, I already made this joke. I need to read more of these old EC comics so I actually have something to talk about.:p

"This issue's Paper Romance" is the first published work of the co-creator of Spiter-Man. According to comics historian Blake Bell, "So buried was this title in the dustbin of history that Kitko's contributions went undiscovered until the late 1980's."

    Writers: Al Feldstein, Bill Gaines

    E.C. (October-November 1953)

"A group of solemn kids hold a funeral procession past their amused, baffled parents. But why have they asked adults about such things as kidnapping, jury trials, and penatlies? 'Let the Punishment Fit the Crime' is yet another unforgettable E. C. shocker."

    Writers: Ray Bradbury, Al Feldstein

    Artists: Wally Wood, Joe Orlando

    E. C. (November-December 1953)

"The last issue before merging with "Weird Fantasy." "My World" is a spectacularly drawn love letter to science fiction, while Bradbury's "Outcast of the Stars"--about a poor man determined to give his children the stars--still brings tears to the eyes."

    Writer: Robert Kanigher

    Artist: Harry G. Peter

    D. C. (November-December, 1953)

"Covers and stories with multiple Wonder Women were a frequent bit in this comic. This issue also features the Amazon relighting the magical "Lamp of the Leprechauns" with fire from Halley's Comet and the 'origin' of her earrings. Really."

That ultimatum doesn't even make sense. He wants the real Wonder Woman to step forward or he'll kill "the other two." But if he doesn't know which one is real, then how can he know which two are the "other two?" Oh who cares?

Al Feldstein was a genius. "The Strange Couple" from Vault of Horror is brilliant.

Also, any pre-code Wonder Woman is nothing shy of glorious to me. Good selections recently, sir. "Funny Animal' books to EC to Wonder Woman. You have exquisite taste.

    Writers: Al Feldstein

    Artists: Joe Orlando, Reed Crandall

    E. C. (November-December 1953)

"Two punch-to-the-gut Feldstein classics. "The Monkey" grimly traces the descent of a teenager into drug addiction. "The Kidnapper" has a man trying to save his wife from the madness that took her with the kidnapping of their baby."

Better question - seeing as one of Wonder Woman's main shticks is blocking bullets with her bracelets, how the hell is a gun a threat?

    Marvel (December 1953)

"The Human Torch, Captain America, and Sub-Mariner, are back! Sadly despite outstanding art, especially by Sub-Mariner creater Everett, the time wasn't right for the return of the heroes. They would all be back in retirement within two years."

    Ajax/Farrell (January-February 1954)

"Stretching Things," Ditko's first professional comics assignment reveals his already-evident talent. Hamilton would become a world-renowned comics historian and, in the 1980's, publish a 30-volume hadrcover set reprinting all 500-plus Disney Duck stories of Carl Barks."

    Artists: Wally wood, Bernard Krigstein

    E.C. (Spring 1954)

"Feldstein launches E.C's now-solitary science-fiction anthology with "The Children," in which creeping fear gives way to a heart-warming display of parental love. In the issue's other gem, Krigstein gives an elegant look to Bradbury's "The Flying Machine."

    Writer: Al Feldstein

    Artists: Bill Elder, Jack Davis

    E.C.(February-March 1954)

"This comic was literally banned in Boston for Feldstein and Elder's hilariously irreverent take on "The Night Before Christmas". The other highlight of the issue is "My Gun is the Jury," a Davis-drawn parody of Mickey Spillane's "I, the Jury."

    E.C. (February-March 1954)

"And All Through the House"...is a chilling noir tale of spousal murder and maniac dressed as Santa. The issue also has "Shoe Buttons Eyes," in which a teddy bear adminsters vegenance on an abusive stepfather."

I kind of want to read that Santa Claus story and see how it compares to Silent Night, Deadly Night.
