    Hello from Amazon.com.

We have new information about your order and need to hear from
    you before proceeding.

We are sorry, but it has come to our attention that
the price of the following item has increased:

Trisha Biggar "Dressing a Galaxy: The Costume of Star Wars Limited
    Edition with DVD" [Hardcover]
    OLD PRICE NEW PRICE
    $185.85 $295.00

We apologize for the inconvenience or disappointment this
change in price may cause. We hope you will understand that,
with several million items listed on our web site, it is
unfortunate but inevitable that some items will occasionally
    be mispriced.

well, that is the start of the email I got,

sure, I would believe a small price change, and one that
was not about one of the most looked forward to items,
concerning the hottest film of the year,

and so, yeah, sure, I believe them....
    It was simple clerical error................NOT!

I would sooner believe a .....let's over look this and
    then suck in new business........

and then spring the price change on them just as it is
    about to be released....

    thus.....high demand......drop the sale and pre-order prices
and pump up the original list price....or higher....

    low demand.....then it's......Hey, isn't Amazon great,
    and look at our discounts....

good old .....Econ 101......supply and demand....

oh well........this is just a heads up for my
    fellow collectors and costumers

    Ed

    what will I do?
    unknown at this time.

This has been a topic of discussion in the costuming forums for months...
    http://boards.theforce.net/Costuming_and_Props/b10019/18682434/p7/?168

apparently..some places already caught that "clerical" error quite a while ago...I have been sitting and wondering if Amazon would honor the original price....
I got the same e-mail too....
    ..
    and ...
like you...I am unsure what I am going to do....

Ick! I was willing to fork over $200, but $300 just seems so much more. Guess I should read C&P more often :( I was just considering charging that too. Now I'm really going to have to think about it.

All i can say is that things happen...the retail price has been posted for a while now...and while Amazon gives discounts, they won't really go very low on a VERY limited run collectable. It does suck that they made such a huge error, but that is the way of the Galaxy I guess..

Barnes and Noble has it for 10% off if you have their discount card. Saved me the tax and about $9 beyond that. Yeah, I caved in and ordered it.

I will probably cave as well...
I made a promise to myself to stop trying to collect everything and go for some more exclusive and high end stuff...and I guess this qualifies.

I cancelled with Amazon ....and ordered it here:
    https://thefidmmuseumstore.org/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10001&storeId=10001&productId=18503&langId=-1&parent_category_rn=12352

    Amazon can stick it!

Same price...BUT...I might have the chance to have a signed copy...AND it tells Amazon just what I think of their pricing policy...

    what a crock of.....

    cav

    caving

    caving in........ggrrrr,

but thanks to all.......I too have canceled Amazon,
and have made the appropriate note about the future
    concerning them

Have gone where suggested on this thread......well, I had
too much trouble trying to make the link work and so,

    I just typed in .........www.thefidmmuseumstore.org

and navigated from there......thought it was pretty straight forward.

My order number from them is.....123456.....or,

no way to tell if I am going to get a signed copy,
they only guarantee first 100 at this web site at this time.

but even so, if I am going to cave in, I might as well
support Trisha as directly as possible by doing this,

Now, if I can only attend the exhibit at,

The FIDM Galleries are located at:
FIDM/The Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising
919 South Grand Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90015

Dressing A Galaxy: The Costumes of Star Wars
FIDM premiers the first exhibition ever created to celebrate the art of costume design from all six Star Wars films.
Dates: Monday, September 12, 2005 through Saturday, December 10, 2005. Closed Thanksgiving Day.
Hours: Monday through Saturday from 10:00 AM until 8:00 PM, Sunday from 11:00 AM until 5:00 PM. No admittance 1½ hours prior to closing. Time tickets will be required for admittance - check back for further information.

Cool beans...glad you ordered one from them too Ed...I do plan to sit and write a "nasty gram" to Amazon in addition to my cancelling the order...

I have my fingers crossed for a signed copy too...but ...no matter what...I can't wait to get it...
and I think...that they will be mailed earlier than the Amazon October date...so that would be too cool...

pacing the floor till it comes....

Just a quick note about the signed copies, Sideshow collectibles has signed copies also, 500 of em to be exact, no idea if they are any left but it cost 295 from them.

On another note and more specifically directed at Ed, They are taking preorders on the Chronicals book #2 the prquels. (It is supposed to be just like the one i brought to book club, but obviously only for the last 3 movies)

I found it for 87 bucks at Wal-mart.com amazon was 97 and starwarsshop had it for the MSRP of 150, but it is signed by both authors.

And I am still trying to track down a star wars chronicals for ya Ed, as soon as i find one Ill let ya know.

Overstock HAS to stick to the price - they charge you up front, instead of when the item ships. Gee none of my investments are making 39% right now, so it seems like a good use of the money!

Hmmm, if I had that much money I'd order it right now. Hopefully they will still have it at that price in a couple weeks.

Well here's the odd thing. I think Amazon showed the price at $295, but less a 7% discount (which gives you exactly $185.85), but then for somereason, decided to offer it with no discount.

I still fail to see how that is a "pricing error." Goes right up there with "wardrobe malfunction."

Shiny, a 7% discount on $295 would be about $20 off.

Must have sticky 3 key - they did offer a 37% discount, but then decided against it apparently.
