I've been doing a lot of thinking lately about the world, and about America, and what makes it great. And I've come to the conclusion that the Republicans are right. Here, I've put together a brief road map for reestablishing the supremacy of America.

-The Federal government of the United States of America has no business supporting programs that are not explicitly mandated by the Federal constitution.
-The Federal government of the United States of America should not fund any programs that would be better funded on the state level.
-Dissident and anti-American elements any hold on power. America cannot afford to have a fifth column in its midst, poisoning the minds of its citizens.
-Capitalism is the greatest force for good that the world has seen, and must be supported. Communism is the greatest force for evil that the world has seen, and must be fought wherever and however it is encountered.
-State rights and personal responsibility must be held paramount, except of course when those principles would infringe on the principles of Capitalism or begin to espouse the principles of Communism.

So, firstly, the budget. I'm basing the numbers I'm using on the 2010 Federal budget.

Social Security must be entirely privatized. This will save the American taxpayer approximately $695 billion per year.

Medicare and Medicare should be eliminated. This is what health insurance is for. If a person chooses not to get health insurance, that's their choice, and should not expect the government to help them. This will save the American taxpayer approximately $743 billion per year. $78.7 billion went towards the Department of Health and Human services. Cut that. People should be responsible for their own health.

$72.5 billion went towards the Department of Transportation. I think that every function provided by this department can be privatized. There's no reason why organizations like the FAA shouldn't be funded by the airlines themselves if there's a need for them; public transportation organizations should privatize and pay for themselves, rather than suck of taxpayer dollars from people that can actually afford to drive. $51.7 billion went towards the Department of Housing and Urban Development. Simply put, not the responsibility of the Federal government. This is the sort of communist program that deserves to be taxed on principle. $46.7 billion went towards the Department of Education. Schools should be privatized, and allowed to determine for themselves items like curriculum, academic standards, admission fees, etc. The current model is deeply flawed, and by privatizing education we can provide parents a true market of ideas to educate their children with.

Potential disaster costs were budgeted at $11 billion in 2010. If people are worried about a disaster, they should buy insurance. Why should the Federal government help people who won't help themselves? The Department of Energy cost the federal government $26.3 billion. Eliminate it, and let the invisible hand of the market determine energy needs and how energy is acquired. The Department of Agriculture cost $26 billion. Eliminate it. It serves no viable purpose in a capitalist society, barely a step better than the Soviet Collective farms. The Department of Commerce cost $13.8 billion to manage. Eliminate it. Allow the invisible hand of the market free reign, and the American economy can only benefit. Additional smaller departments can be eliminated: the Department of Labour, the Department of the Interior, the Environmental Protection Agency, the Social Security Administration, the National Science Foundation, the Corps of Engineers, Corporation for National and Community Service, and the Small Business Administration, and other smaller agencies. Total savings will be about $84.2 billion.

These changes would save the American taxpayer approximately $1850 billion per year ? bringing America out of a deficit situation and into a surplus. That surplus should be returned to America via tax cuts on those paying the greatest burde

And don't forget eating the orphan children. The eating of orphan children (or at least rendering them into biodeisel) is very important.

Where there's a need, the free market and entrepreneurs will tap the business opportunities inherent in fulfilling that need. Don't worry about orphans. The invisible hand will create businesses that solves the orphan problem without the need of any Communist government-funded organs.

If health care is not a right, then it is not an entitlement, either morally or legally. Therefore, if you choose not to purchase insurance and become ill at a point later in life where the treatment outstrips one's ability to pay, then that person is given a supply of morphine tablets (dirt cheap to manufacture these days), a cab voucher, and sent home from the Emergency Department to die.

Why should responsible people be forced to cover those who make bad choices through cost-shifting and an undue tax burden to support Communist Medicare/Medicare programs?

    Peace,

Plus, we have to get back to Biblical values, like slavery, and a marriage being between one man and as many women as he could afford [face_flag]

The hospital should not be responsible for covering cab fare and morphine. If private charities want to step in, that's their business. But to expect a private health care center to provide transportation and drugs to people off the street like that without payment is ridiculous.

Regarding the orphans, there's no need to be dramatic about it. In a true capitalist society, those children would have a right to work, and could provide for themselves in places like coal mines and as farm laborers. Our current system has unfairly denied them the opportunity to work. Instead of learning the importance of self-reliance and industry at a young age, they come to believe in a communist nanny state that will provide for them. The sooner that this is turned around, the better off America will be.

I think the greatest problem America has right now--and this comes even before our massive debt, our inflated entitlement programs, our ridiculous spending on "defense" and our military overextension across the world--is structural problems with the way our democracy works.

We live in a 24/7/365 election. With every politician constantly worried about getting re-elected, how can anything get done? We should have a convention and ratify some new amendments. I think it's about time to start talking about hard term limits on Senators and Representatives and revising the President's office to something like 6 years, one term only.

I mean seriously, we finished voting in November '08 and the first thing I hear when I turned on the news the day after is some analysis about an election in 2012. If elections are all we're concerned about, when will the elected politicians ever get a chance to do their jobs? When will we ever got to focus on the meat and potatoes of their jobs?

The "structural problem" is that liberals are allowed a place at the table. Eliminate the liberals, and America could eliminate its national debt, improve its climate, achieve full employment, have healthier and longer lived citizens, and rediscover its morals. Liberals naturally oppose America's interests. For example, America's rights to the worlds resources - if other nations refuse to grant America access to their resources at fair prices, Liberals tend to support other nations over their own national interest.

With the elimination of the traitorous elements, America can be great.

Alpha-Red, that sounded good at first, but then I did some research and found that the person you quoted was a socialist. A socialist is just like a communist. There's no actual difference, they're all just different breeds of liberals. [face_plain]

Anyhow, I'm done. I'll just leave you with a youtube video that illustrates exactly what kind of horrors a socialist nanny state can produce.

    Love me, I'm a Liberal.

Just kidding. Phil Ochs would be among the first executed for Anti-Americanism if he were still alive today.

Well, Love me, I'm a Liberal isn't pro-liberal. Well, at least it's fairly anti-"that sort of liberal".

Would be a travesty for Phil Ochs to share Victor Jara's fate. (Not to say that the latter is ok, either)

That all was more questioning the "just kidding" usage that doesn't seem to fit, with the Ochs reference.

Just kidding because Ochs is hardly an advocate for the Vision of a Pure America put forth in this thread.

Ah, larger scale. I took that more limited focus.

And if nothing else, this has been a successful thread as I've now gotten around to ordering the Phil Ochs CDs I've been meaning to get.

Love Me I'm a Liberal is my favorite Phil Ochs song. Second favorite is Cops of the World. You can't go wrong with In Concert.
