March 26th, 2005 will be the first "Build a Prop Day". This will be the first in what will hopefully be a continuing event to where we can get together to pool resources and make some cool props for our various costumes.

The first one will focus on lightsabers and cloaks.

Try and get the materials you'll need beforehand as this session will mainly be about the actual construction or in the case of the cloaks, cutting and sewing. DallasValla has some patterns for some cloaks (if you want to PM her) and lightsaber patterns are plentiful, although I suggest using a pattern from The Big Yellow Box. It has a parts list (mainly using stuff from Lowe's and Radio Shack) and detailed instructions.

The "where" will be decided soon, but this will probably be talked about more on the Chattooine boards, so you may want to look there to weigh in on the discussion.

Nightmarez plans to have an Armor Building day soon as well. More details on that later.

I would like another cloak, I don't think the hood on mine looks big enough compared to the ones in the trilogies.

seriously, I would like a better cloak than what I have. Mine looks really cool but, doesn't look quite movie accurate.

Yeah, the one I have is an "official" Obi-Wan cloak, but I've seen homemade ones that look and feel a lot better. Official doesn't mean it's movie quality, that's for sure. Still... it does the trick.

I do but, can't on that date. Speaking of building props, check out my new lightsaber. A delicate weapon for a more civilized Age....

Nice saber. I like the cost of making that one even better! God luck with the armor. We're going to be tackling that one next time.

Remember, Build A Prop Day I is tomorrow at 10:30am until whenever. PM me for directions. See ya there!

We had a nice turn-out at our first "Build A Prop Day". Some pics were taken that'll be put up on our site soon. Anyway, it looks like we all made some nice progress with our respective saber projects. Superrepus said we didn't trash his house too badly, so it looks like we'll be invited back for the next one! I think the next Prop Day will deal with making/sculpting some armor if Nightmarez figures it out.

    ...hmmmm
    If I figure it out!!!

I just have to get a pot (cooking wise) big enough to dip the Sintra into . . .

    There are other ways but I don't have a heat gun . . .

I'm having a hard enough time working on the armor I already have - at this point. . .

Mesa tink it might beez bestus to buyz

    Hmmmm - well then-
I thought about "cutting" a few to see how it works -
If all goes well we need to tag up and try to work on some armor!
