    Crossroads of the Force

    Prologue

The president of Vega VI rolled over, and looked briefly up at the ceiling. He sighed, then turned to look at his companion, his eyes tracing the contours of her face. Her large eyes were closed, her breathing slowing. She shifted slightly, then turned towards him, opening her eyes. "I trust you're satisfied?" she asked, her dark, nearly black eyes locking onto the president.

"Yes, though I can't understand how you knew what would come," he said. Indeed, everything had gone as she'd dictated, almost as if she were writing the script for his life. Ever since he'd come across her, Valda's suggestions had proven of great benefit. He'd learned to trust her insights, and had only gone against her on a couple of small occasions. When he had, things hadn't turned out well.

"Let's just say that I have a way of reading people," Valda said, the tip of her tongue moistening indigo lips.

"With a gift like that, it's a wonder you didn't run for office yourself."

"I'm content to remain unseen. Our people have a tendency to like their leaders to fit what they consider attractive. I don't exactly fit into that category."

"It's not like you're deformed," the president said.

"But my face doesn't fit with the current definition of beauty," Valda said. "My eyes are too large, my nose too upturned. Trust me, it's better this way." She wasn't about to admit the truth to him. She liked being the power behind the throne. This way, she could manipulate events, using her talents to take the planet in a course that would lead it to prominence. Once there, she could expand her influence. Though Vega VI wasn't yet a member of the United Federation of Planets, she believed she could convince her bedmate that it would be of benefit to accept the Federation's offer.

And once that was achieved, she would have little further use for him. His view was too short-term, too small for her. She would have to find someone else, someone who had been beaten down, and was looking for help. She would take him, raise him up, and then use him to achieve her ends. And once she had access to real power on a galactic scale, she could achieve that for which she was destined. It was all like a game of chess, a game that she had become a dark master of.

    Chapter One

    Captain's Log, Stardate 2258.82

After rendezvousing with the Hermes to deliver supplies to the new Vulcan colony, the Enterprise is en route to Delta Sigma to conduct a geologic survey of the Delta Sigma VII. Commander Spock seems particularly interested in how the planet's development mirrors that of Vulcan.

Captain James T. Kirk thumbed off the recording. Since he'd assumed command from Christopher Pike following the destruction of Vulcan and the defeat of Nero, the Enterprise had been faced with little as far as challenges. Kirk reflected, however, that this wasn't necessarily a bad thing. After all, this was his first command, and he was still getting to know that capabilities of his senior staff.

"Captain?" Lieutenant Uhura called from the communications station. "I'm receiving a message from Starfleet Command. We're being diverted to Vega VI."

"Vega VI?" Kirk asked. "Whatever for?"

"It seems their government has chosen to accept membership in the Federation. They'd like us to be on hand for the ceremony."

Kirk rolled his eyes. The only thing he hated more than sheer boredom was being sent simply to show the flag. But the Enterprise was the pride of the fleet, and Kirk supposed that he'd best get used to this sort of mission. Before he could compose a reply, the ship rocked. He grabbed hold of the command chair's arms.

"What in blazes was that?" he asked.

"We've dropped out of warp, Captain," Sulu said, turning to face his captain. "I'm not sure why?"

"Sensors show a vortex nearby, Captain," Spock said, his voice steady as a rock. During their first mission together, Spock's nature had driven Kirk crazy, but he'd realized, with some help

earlybird-obi-wan: Glad you like the beginning. Hope you'll continue as this goes on.

"That doesn't look like any Trade Federation ship I've ever seen," Obi-Wan commented.

"And who do they think they are, telling us where we can and cannot go?" Quinlan added. "I think it's them that should be explaining what they're doing here."

"All in good time, my young Padawan," Tholme said. "Though if this is the Federation we're used to, there are certainly questions that bear asking."

"Such as where the Neimoidians are?" Qui-Gon asked.

"That, and what they're doing so close to Hutt space," Tholme replied. "If those two groups are moving towards some kind of compact, it could jeopardize trade across the board."

"I suppose the only way we're going to learn anything useful is to actually answer him," Qui-Gon said. "Do you want to speak for us, or shall I?"

"You're usually the more diplomatic," Tholme said.

"Very well," Qui-Gon said, reaching for the comm. "This is Master Qui-Gon Jinn of the Jedi Order. We are on a mission for the Supreme Chancellor, and request that you allow us to be on our way."

    ***

The image of a bearded, long haired man with leonine features appeared on the viewscreen. Kirk looked at Spock. "That's not a human ship design."

"Yet obviously, its master is human," the Vulcan science officer replied. When the other ship's commander had finished, he raised an eyebrow. "Intriguing. He provided what we ased for, yet gave no further explanation."

"Seems like he's trying to hide something if you ask me." Kirk turned back to Uhura. "May we offer some assistance?"

"Thank you, but no," the other said. "I might ask, however, what a human is doing in command of a Trade Federation ship."

"Trade Federation?" Kirk asked, then mentally kicked himself. He'd just given this relatively unknown player the upper hand.

"Captain, it seems that there has been some misunderstanding. Perhaps we could meet in person to attempt to figure out just what is going on here?"

Kirk looked back to Uhura, and drew his finger across his throat. Once he was sure she'd muted the comm line, he turned to Spock. "What do you think?"

"They really don't seem to know where they are," Spock said. "And there's something to be said for meeting someone in person. While they don?t seem as willing as Nero to reveal their plans, that doesn't make them any less dangerous."

"You?re thinking we may have to fight to prevent a fight?" Kirk asked.

"No," Spock said. "After what happened with Nero, we cannot afford a prolonged conflict. But wherever they are from, they're used to being able to use their position to their advantage."

"So we bring them over here, and see what we can learn from them," Sulu said, turning to look back at the captain. "Take them off what to them is certain ground, like a fencer placing his opponent on the defensive. Then we press the attack."

"And hopefully get some answers," Kirk said. "Good thinking, Mr. Sulu." He turned to Uhura. "Put me back on, Lieutenant." When she'd nodded that the hailing frequency was again open, Kirk faced the viewer. "Perhaps you'd care to join us aboard the Enterprise, Master Jinn, so that we might straighten out this misunderstanding?"

The other ship's commander looked a little dubious. Perhaps he thinks we're trying to pull some kind of kidnapping, Kirk thought. "I doubt out ship would fit in your docking bay," Jinn said at last.

"We could bring you and any escort you wish aboard via the transporter," Kirk said. "I assure you that it's perfectly safe."

"I'll need a moment to confer with my colleague, Captain," Jinn said, and the viewer went back to the image of Jinn's odd-looking ship.

earlybird: I suppose you'll just have to wait and see, won't you?"

    Here comes the next post!

"What do you think?" Qui-Gon asked Tholme. "I feel that they're suspicious, but I don't think they mean us any harm if we don't provoke them."

"The question is what they might consider provocation," Tholme replied. "Their commander seems to be under a great deal of stress."

"Assuming that he is their commander," Quinlan said from behind the two Masters. "I still think there's a chance of a Neimoidian pulling the strings."

"You really have taught him to be suspicious, haven't you?" Qui-Gon asked Tholme.

"Quin comes by his suspicion naturally, Qui-Gon. I can't say that I really blame him. His parents were Guardians, and Quin was being groomed to follow them in that path. Their murder makes it difficult for Quin to trust anybody anymore. I'm actually a bit surprised he's bonded with Obi-Wan."

"Their personalities do seem a bit opposite, don't they," Qui-Gon commented. "But that's a conversation for another time. Do you agree with Quin, that they're hiding something?"

"They're definitely trying to keep something from us," Tholme said. "But sometimes the only way to discover a trap is to spring it."

"So you think we should go over there," Obi-Wan interjected.

"I don't see that we have much choice," Tholme said.. I think face to face contact is the only way we're going to get any answers. Besides, the navicomputer's at a loss for where we are. If we're lost, we're going to need some help. Might as well see if they're truly as honest as they appear to be."

"Better now than when they've got us in a position where we're truly karked," Quin said, earning himself a stern look from his Master. "Sorry, Master."

"So the question is whether we trust their method of bringing us aboard," Qui-Gon said. "I don?t think this ship is going to fit aboard theirs, and rigging some kind of docking passage is going to take time."

"Plus it'll leave us locked together if something goes wrong," Tholme said. "But if we allow them to use this transporter?"

"We're stuck if they aren't as trustworthy as they seem. They could be pirates," Obi-Wan said.

"Have you ever heard of pirates this organized?" Tholme asked, turning to look at Obi-Wan.

"No, Master," the younger man said.

"I think that right now, we have no choice but to trust them," Qui-Gon said. "Or rather, trust in the guidance of the Force." He activated the comm system. "We'll hold our position here. You may activate your transporter at any time."

That'll do it for Chapter 1. I'm thinking I should be able to get the first part of Chapter 2 up late this weekend.

Jade_eyes: Glad you've found this, epecially given your obvious enthusiasm. If I need help, I'll know who to turn to.

Mira_Jade: Glad to see you here. I actually got the idea from a previous fic of mine, where I dropped the crew from Star Trek: The Next Generation into the GFFA. I decided to do the process in reverse, and what you've got so far is the result.

    And now, onto Chapter 2!

    Chapter 2

Kirk turned to Spock. "Let's go down and meet our guests," he said, rising. Then he bent down and thumbed a control on the arm of the command chair.

    "Sickbay, McCoy here."

"Bones, meet me in Transporter Room One. We've got some guests coming aboard, and I'd like your medical opinion."

"Are they likely to be bringing any exotic diseases with them I need to be wary of?"

"Not that we know of. Hopefully, the transporters filters will be able to screen out anything too undesirable."

"Assuming you can call getting your atoms scattered across the galaxy desirable," McCoy grouched. "I'm on my way, Jim."

Kirk moved from the command chair to one of the lifts, joining Spock. The doors shut, and the lift began to descend. "I do not understand the need to bring the doctor into this," Spock said. "A first contact specialist would be more appropriate."

"I trust McCoy's instincts, Spock," Kirk said. "If nothing else, it gives me just one more person they might have to deal with."

The pair exited the lift, Kirk striding purposefully towards the transporter room. A moment after he and Spock arrived, they were joined by McCoy. "Ready to bring them aboard, Captain," Montgomery Scott said from behind the console. Though now back in the uniform of a Starfleet engineer, Kirk couldn't help seeing something of the refugee he'd found on Delta Vega.

"Energize, Mister Scott," Kirk said, turning to face the platform. Four silhouettes of shimmering light appeared, resolving into four humanoids. As the effect vanished, and they became solid beings, Kirk recognized the bearded man with whom he'd spoken. "Welcome aboard the Enterprise, Master Jinn."

    ***

The feeling of having all his nerves jarred awake faded, and Qui-Gon looked around the room in which he and the other three Jedi found themselves. The were standing in a circular alcove, upon a raised platform. "Welcome aboard the Enterprise, Master Jinn," Kirk said. He was flanked by two in blue tunics, one tall, slender, raven-haired, whose ears tapered back into a point. The other was brown haired, with a expression that suggested he'd seen more than his fair share in his lifetime. Behind a console, in a red tunic, stood a shorter man, his light hair cropped close.

"Thank you, Captain Kirk," Qui-Gon said. "I must admit, an interesting experience."

"My first officer, Commander Spock," Kirk said, gesturing to the being with the pointed ears. And this is my chief medical officer, Leonard McCoy."

"Commander, Doctor," Qui-Gon said stepping forward. Qui-Gon gestured to each of his companions. "Master Tholme, and his apprentice, Quinlan Vos, and my own apprentice, Obi-Wan Kenobi."

"If you don't mind me asking, Master Jinn, are you part of some sort of craftsman's guild? I hear the term apprentice, and that's what most readily comes to mind," Kirk said.

"I suppose you could say that the Jedi Order is a guild, of sorts," Tholme answered, stepping down towards the Enterprise officers. "Though it's a rather exclusive one."

"From the name, it sounds more like a religious sect," McCoy said.

    ***

"It is, from a certain point of view," said the younger man with the close-cropped brown hair. "In fact, while the exact nature has been lost to history, I think the Jedi may actually have their roots in religion."

"Sounds like you've been spending some of your free time with Master Nu," Jinn said.

"I think we'd all be much happier discussing this elsewhere," Kirk said. "Gentlemen, if you'd care to follow me?" Kirk led the way out of the transporter room, heading fo

Happy wriggle! You got Bones perfectly and Spock's and Jim's interaction with each other is ringing totally true.

Love the exchange with the Jedi. Each side is offering all the facts and answering all the questions they feel able to. The level of openness is very plausible given the circumstances. :D Explaining the nature of the Force will be quite intriguing. Woohoo! Bring Master Yoda into the mix  Coolness!

Okay, this was a treat. First off - you have the 'voices' of that characters down pat. I could 'hear' everyone speaking, and their personalities and interactions meshed together perfectly. [face_love] =D=

And the force . . . that's going to be interesting. [face_thinking] I am particularly looking forward to Spock trying to logicalize(I totally made up a word to suit my fangirl purposes ;)) that . . . [face_laugh]

Jade_eyes: Glad you like what I'm doing with the characters, though the openness is about to come to a halt. As for seeign Yoda, I wouldn't say that it's likely until Qui-Go & Co get back to the GFFA.

Mira_Jade: Getting the voices down is something that means a lot to me. I love these characters, and I'd hate to do them a disservice by not capturing them. Expect to see a little of Spock trying to rationalize the Force in today's post, with much more to come later.

Here comes the conclusion to Chapter 2.

"Captain, might we have a moment alone?" Tholme asked.

"I don't see why that would be a problem," Kirk said, rising along with the other two. "We'll be right outside." When the Starfleet officers had left the room, and the door swished shut, Tholme turned on Qui-Gon.

"What are you thinking? The last thing we should be doing now is putting our abilities on display."

"They don't trust us, Tholme. We need their cooperation if we're going to succeed in finding a way back home."

"Couldn't we just mind trick them?" Quin asked.

"Do you really think it would work on Commander Spock?" Obi-Wan asked. "And I doubt that even our Trade Federation friends would put someone in charge of a ship like this if they were so weak-minded."

"No to mention that maintaining a hold on even just a few minds for an extended period?"

"Enough," Tholme said, cutting Qui-Gon off. "We might be under surveillance."

"We've let the nerf out of the corral, so to speak," Qui-Gon replied. "At this point, we're going to have to tell them, or get thrown off the ship and left to our own devices."

"Assuming that they don't just throw us out the nearest airlock," Tholme growled. "All right, Qui-Gon, we'll play it your way. But I think that this might be one of those times that you're gravely mistaken."

"I hope you're wrong," Qui-Gon said. "Because if you're not, it might be the last time that I am."

    ***

"My apologies, gentlemen," Jinn said, once Kirk and the other others had returned to the room.

"You were saying something about abilities," Kirk said.

"I'll have to backtrack a bit, if you'll bear with me," Jinn said. "The Jedi are simply beings attuned to an energy field we call the Force."

"Yet there were no obvious energy emissions from your ship, or from your persons," Spock said.

"And there wouldn't be," Jinn replied. "You might say that life creates the Force, and that it is present in every living thing. There is a chance that, given the proper circumstances, any one of you might be able to access it."

"If every living thing creates it, then how are the Jedi different from anybody else?" McCoy interjected.

"What makes the Jedi special is that a Jedi can manipulate the Force," Qui-Gon explained. "Perhaps it would be easier if I demonstrated." He reached to his belt, and removed the cylinder that hung there. "Scan this if you like." Spock did so, then looked to his captain, and shook his head.

"Commence with your demonstration, Master Jinn." Jinn raised his hand, and the cylinder leapt off the table, hovered a foot above its surface for about a minute, then began to spin. Jinn lowered his hand, though the cylinder continued to rotate. Spock continued to scan the cylinder, while McCoy's eyes were glued to Jinn. "I fail to detect anything that might be causing this phenomenon," Spock finally said. Jin reached out, and took hold of the spinning cylinder.

"I'd like to run some medical tests, if that's possible," McCoy said. "Nothing invasive, I promise."

"If you feel you must," Jinn said, earning him a dark look from Tholme. It's almost as if Tholme doesn't trust Jinn, Kirk thought. Either that, or he feels that Jinn is being too open with us. Either way, he's giving me little reason to trust him.

"I'll leave you in Doctor McCoy's capable hands. Bones, when you're through, let me know, and I'll have someone escort them to quarters."

"That won't be necessary, Captain," Tholme said. "I believe it would be best if we

You just don't know how much I enjoyed this update or maybe you do LOL

Tholme seems to be very ... overly ... cautious :p ;)

The Force is definitely beyond the physically provable unless you count midichlorians or something changes during the medscan when they use it o_O

Dealing with Jedi, two converging -verses, and the Vegan situation-- woohoo! Lotta stuff happening at once. [face_dancing] That's all in a day's work for the Enterprise though :)

Note to Mira: Logicalize I like that. It's a serious turn on too when he does it. I never knew the word fascinating could make me feel all ... happy and gooey :) :*

Jade_eyes: Tholme's been burned in the past by rushing in, so he's learned a thing or two. Besides, he's got to be the more cautious with a Padawan like Quin. There is a lot of stuff going on, but it's goping to all come together, beleieve you me.

Okay, sorry for the delay in posting, but I had some family stuff to deal with at the end of the year.

    Chapter 3

"You seem to be in excellent health, Master Jinn," McCoy said, running the scanner over Qui-Gon for the last time. "Some effect of this "Force" you mentioned?"

"The Force can be used for healing," Jinn said. "There are even those in the Order who specialize in using the Force for that very reason. Unfortunately, I don't consider myself to be an expert in the healing arts."

"As I said, I can't find anything really wrong with you. I presume that I'll find your colleagues in equally fine health?"

"Perhaps even better in the cases of Obi-Wan and Quinlan, since they are both younger than Tholme or myself," Jinn answered. McCoy turned, and headed for a small console on the wall.

"Sickbay to bridge," he said, thumbing it on.

"Bridge here," came Kirk's voice. "Done already, Bones?"

"I am. And I'd say that at least one of our guests is getting a little nervous."

"I'll be right down. The situation has changed, somewhat."

"You're not talking something on the order of Nero, I hope," McCoy said.

    "I hope not. Kirk out."

"Who is this Nero you mentioned," Tholme said.

"I suppose it isn't exactly a secret," McCoy said, a little hesitant. "Nero was a Romulan who sought to avenge the destruction of his people. He...took his revenge a little too far, and destroyed an entire planet."

"And you fear that there might be another such person?" Obi-Wan interjected.

"Look, I know that space isn't the safest place. I told the captain as much the day that we met. But there's enough wrong without having someone running around destroying entire planets."

"I can understand that," Tholme said. A moment later the door to the sickbay swished open. "Captain," Tholme said, "we'd appreciate it if you'd transport us back to our ship."

"As you may have overheard, the situation has changed. "We've been ordered to attend a meeting with the government of a neutral planet. I'm afraid we won't be able to assist in getting you home until that task is completed."

"All the more reason to return to our ship," Tholme said.

"I'm afraid that my orders were quite specific. And since I didn't feel it would be right to simply leave you where the Klingons might decide you'd make a juicy prize, I ordered your ship taken in tow."

"Are you imprisoning us, then, Captain?" Qui-Gon asked, his hand dropping towards his waist and the metal cylinder he'd levitated in the conference room.

"I'd rather not be forced to take that step," Kirk said. "But I also can't allow your needs to disrupt the mission of this ship. I have my orders, and much as I'd like to be able to help you immediately, my orders stand."

"Captain, I assure you, we are quite capable of defending ourselves," Tholme said.

"Master Tholme, I don't think I've made myself clear. If I simply abandon you, the Klingons will come after you. And given that your ship doesn't look like anything known to us, they'd likely think that it contains some advanced technology. Those who fall into Klingon hands usually don't return."

"Perhaps it is their choice not to return," Quinlan said.

"If you want to try it, go ahead," Kirk said. "But?"

"Jim, you can't seriously be thinking about just letting them go off on their own like this," McCoy said, his voice rising with emotion.

"They're free to do as they choose, Bones. I have no authority to stop them."

"And when in your life have you ever let authority get in the way of doing what you thought was right?" McCoy shot back. "You certainly had no problem with dumping authority out the nearest garbage chute that third time you took the Kobayashi Maru test."

    "And remember where i

Jade_eyes: Let's just say that you should be glad the Jedi are going to be coming along. Before all is said and done, they'll be needed.

earlybird: Glad you think everybody's still in character.

Okay, here comes the next post!

"First we're headed to Vega, then we stop to check out that rift. We pick up a couple of people who were stranded, and are trying to help them. Now we're headed back to Vega, with their ship in tow. I'd just like know what's going on down there," Sulu said to Chekov as the stars raced by on the viewscreen in front of them.

"I don?t know," Chekov replied. "But the keptin seemed to think it was important enough to put our mission to Vega on hold."

"Only to have Command send us on our way," Sulu said. "Almost makes you wonder if they aren't getting a bit worried about the Klingons."

"They could be worried that the Romulans will launch an attack, thinking Nero weakened the Federation when he?" Chekov looked around, considered Spock in the command chair, and then thought better of what he was about to say.

"When Nero destroyed Vulcan, Mister Chekov?" Spock asked. Apparently, the Vulcan had heard the discussion. "The captain is informing our guests of what is going on, but until we have further details, speculation would be?illogical."

"Surely there are other ships that could deal with whatever situation is taking place at Vega," Sulu said.

"Many ships are still dealing with aftereffects of the attack on Vulcan," Spock said. And not every ship is the Enterprise. I will admit, the idea of discovering the secrets the rift holds is fascinating." The lift door at the rear of the bridge opened, and Kirk stepped onto the bridge. Spock, already in the act of turning, rose and vacated the center chair.

"Time to Vega, Mr. Sulu?" Kirk asked.

    "Two hours, Captain."

Kirk thumbed a switch on the arm of the chair. "How are the tractors holding out, Scotty?"

"They're functioning now, Captain, but I canna guarantee how long that will last. We might get to Vega, and then have them burn out."

"Let's hope not, Mr. Scott. Master Jinn and his companions are going to need their ship to get home, and we can't expect that rift to stay open forever." Kirk turned to Uhura. "Have there been any updates from either Vega or Starfleet Command?"

"None, Captain," Uhura replied. "Did you inform Admiral Pike about our guests?"
"As of right now, their presence isn't going to be interfering in our mission," Kirk said. "I didn't see any reason to tell the Admiral they were aboard."

"In other words, you're going to see what happens," she said, frowning slightly.

"I think they may actually be able to help us," Kirk said.

"Indeed?" Spock asked, one eyebrow rising.

"Master Jinn informed me that the Jedi have often acted as ambassadors. It seems to me that their presence might prove advantageous."

"May I remind you that a Federation ambassador is likely to already be on station," Spock said.

"That may be the case. But his affiliation with the Federation may make him seem biased from the perspective of the Vegans. Masters Jinn and Vos have no such affiliation."

"Their motives for offering their aid also remain unknown," Spock said.

"I hope you know what you're doing," Uhura added.

"So do I, Lieutenant," Kirk said, sitting down. "So do I."

That's all for now. I should have the first interlude done soon.

Jade_eyes: I got the idea for the Chekov/Sulu bit from the episode "Amok Time," where a similar conversation takes place. It's hard to write those two and give them much to talk about.

earlybird: Oh yes, the Jedi can make a difference. And they shall, when the real problem rears its head.

Okay, here comes the next post, a short interlude that should give everybody a hint to the real threat...

    Interlude 1

She watched, from her seat at the president's right hand, as her lover welcomed the Federation delegation. The ambassador was Andorian, his light hair turned even lighter at the temples. A pair of aides, one Vulcan, the other human, accompanied the ambassador. "Welcome to Vega, Ambassador Yunis," The president said. "I trust your journey here was not too arduous?"

"No, President Jaraana," Yunis said. "It's a good thing too, considering the amount of work still to be done before the conference begins. I have also heard that Starfleet is sending their flagship to document this momentous day."

"I think you presume too much," Valda said, stepping forward to join Jaraana. "As you have said, there is much to be done before the president agrees that the Federation is the proper place for Vega."

"But surely you can see that your planet only benefits," the human aide said.

"I see that there are benefits," Jaraana said. "But the Federation has enemies, enemies who would have little difficulty subjugating my small planet. I have my own duties to consider, and one of them is keeping my people free."

"You can't think that Starfleet would simply abandon you once you join, do you?" the human aide asked.

"It seems to me that Starfleet has been tested and found wanting," Valdra said. "Didn't they lose an entire fleet to one Romulan ship? What would happen to our people if the Romulans were to set their sights on us?"

"There were extenuating circumstances in that matter," the Vulcan said. "Starfleet will not be taken by surprise in such a manner again."

"In fact, didn't the Romulan ship destroy your homeworld, Vulcan?" Valdra asked, pressing on.

"I see that we still have some way to go," Yunis said, even as his human aide looked ready to reply. "President Jaraana, perhaps we might begin our discussions before the Enterprise arrives?"

"I would certainly be willing," Jaraana said. "But thus far, I have somewhat neglected my duties as your host. If your aides would follow my companion, she will see that you get settled while we begin."

Valdra bowed to the President, then looked to the two aides. She thought that while the Vulcan would serve her better, it would be far easier to break the human. Then, with him under her control, she could begin expanding her influence to the ambassador. "Come with me, gentlemen." As she led them from the room, she smiled to herself. One way or another, her tie with the president would shortly be coming to an end.

That's all for now. More to come as soon as I get it written, but hopefully sometime next week.

Super post. =D= I'm very protective of Vulcans in general -- one in particular :* Valdra better not try anything -- even though she says she's going after the human aide first -- I don't trust her to not try for the Vulcan too some kind of way. She's slimier than two Rodians and 5 Bothans and 10 Hutts put together :p Really am getting more glad all along there's a Jedi contingent to see through the smoke screens ;)

I had the messages saved so that I could sit down and read this, and I just now found the time - I'm sorry. Bad reader! I know.

But now that I am caught up, I must confess myself eager for more. This story is intriguing. [face_thinking]

I have thoughts on the last two entries, if you don't mind. [face_blush]

    The Previous Entry:

"They could be worried that the Romulans will launch an attack, thinking Nero weakened the Federation when he?" Chekov looked around, considered Spock in the command chair, and then thought better of what he was about to say.

"When Nero destroyed Vulcan, Mister Chekov?" Spock asked.

You have great character insights with this story as well as a fascinating plot. I love how hesitant Chekov was to voice the tragedy, and how nonchalant Spock was. The poor sweeties! [:D]

"As of right now, their presence isn't going to be interfering in our mission," Kirk said. "I didn't see any reason to tell the Admiral they were aboard."

Classic Kirk. :p Love it. :D

Hmm, great arguments all around. This flowed wonderfully ? Kirk ready to jump, and Spock's words of caution. Yes, this had a classic TOS feel to it. I enjoyed that very much so. [face_love] You have a good handle on these characters ? from both fandoms. They are meshing seamlessly ? which is always the trick of a crossover. ;)

    The Latest Entry:

Well well well here . . . This story is coming together.

    Time travel . . . check.

    Good guys . . . check.

    Bad guys . . . check.

    Scheming gal' . . . check.

    Awesomness . . . yep, that's there too. [face_laugh]

Oh yes, this is going to be fun. [face_devil]

I can't wait to see how you'll have this unfold. [face_thinking]

Jade_eyes: Valdra's defintely got plans, but I don't think that Spock will be falling for her tricks. Which is not to say that she might not try...

    earlybird: Quite succintly put.

Mira_Jade: Glad you found a lot to like in the previous post. It's sometimes difficult to decide how the ST characters are going to react, as well as deciding how much the Jedi should reveal. After all that took place in the movie, are Kirk and Co. ready to handle the Jedi? Valdra, on the other hand, is a real piece of work, isn't she?

Okay, it's been far too long since I last posted, but the next installment is ready. So without any further authorial delay...

    Chapter 4

"Approaching the Vega system, Captain," Chekov said, turning to look back at the science station, where Kirk was looking over some results from Spock's earlier scans of the rift that had brought them into contact with the still-unnamed ship.

"Take us out of warp, Mr. Sulu," Kirk said, after finishing the conversation. He headed back down to the command chair, and took his seat as the planet leapt into view. "Establish an orbit over the planet."

"Captain, two ships are moving to intercept us," Spock said.

"Probably the local reception," Kirk said.

"They're hailing us, Captain, demanding that we identify ourselves."

"Odd behavior, given that they invited us," Kirk said. "But, I suppose we'll play their game. Patch me in." She did as ordered, and nodded to Kirk once the link was established. "This is James T. Kirk of the Enterprise."

"Captain Oshalla of the Vegan Intrasystem Defense Association," said the voice, which didn't yet have a face to match it. "I'm afraid we have to ask you to retreat the edge of the system. There's a minor disturbance in the capital, and we've been ordered to keep the planet clear of any interference."

"Perhaps we can help," Kirk said.

"I'm afraid that it involves some of your people, Captain. I can't give you any further information at this time. Retreat now, or we'll have to take action."

"Captain," Kirk began, but Uhura shook her head.

    "They've cut the communication."

    "Then re-establish it," Kirk said.

"They appear to be ignoring the hails, Captain. I can't put you in touch with someone who doesn't want to talk."

"It would seem as if we are at an impasse," Spock said.

"Maybe," Kirk replied. "Mr. Sulu, back us away from the planet, but keep us within hailing distance. Uhura, get me Command. Somebody back home's got to know what's going on." The doors swished open behind him, and Kirk turned. "Master Jinn, now probably isn't the best time."
"There's something going on down there," Jinn said.

Kirk did everything he could to stop his jaw from dropping. "How did you know that?"

"I can feel it in the Force, Captain. Someone down there is drawing on the Dark Side."

Kirk looked to Spock, who merely raised an eyebrow. "I think," Kirk said, "it's time we got a full explanation from you, Master Jinn."

    ++++++++++++

I think the next post is just about ready, so I should be able to give you some more by mid-week. After that, it depends on how things go at work, and how much I feel like writing when the day's over with.
