Just seeing what I missed yesterday before I'm officially gone for the weekend. Restructuring, eh? Well, so long as I'm not left out in the cold, where's the harm in it? :p I wish everyone well in whatever skirmishes may arise between now and Sunday evening. Null out.

*Jedi Merkurian adopts Thoughtful Jedi Pose*

Great going so far...just make sure were not too "militant" or turn into EUvangelists. Our goal is defense, not attack. That includes NOT provoking an attack so that we can storm in to someone's defense.

Let's be clear: we're not out to defend the EU itself. We're out to defend the rights of Fans to speculate without persecution for their opinions about EU.

    We're doing awesome so far.

    I was just thinking...

Instead of EU Wing, we can just be known as the EU DEFENSE FORCE.

    Whataya think?

OK, cool, it will stay then!

Alright, now for rank. I've been looking at different rank names in both the American and British Air force so I could get an idea of order of rank and the names of different ranks.

I think the fairest and easiest way to designate ranks is to base it on the star system. Here's what I worked out:

    no stars = Private
    1 star = Corporal
    2 stars = Lieutenant
    3 stars = Captain
    4 stars = Lieutenant Colonel
    5 stars = Colonel

That's the general system of rank. However, there will be additional designations that are necessary to set up a proper chain of command:

First, As leader of the defense force, I will take on the designation of 'Commodore'. I think that sounds better than 'Admiral' or 'General' or 'Air Marshall'.

Secondly, Squadron Leaders will have the designation of 'Commander'. That is in line with the Xwing books.

It's important to note that 'Commodore' and 'Commander' are TITLES, rather than RANKS. Ranks remain the same.

And I don't think that we should necessarily change people around based on these new ranks. That would be confusing and probably upset some people.

OK, now what do ya think about all that?

That sounds fair. As we get more stars, our ranks increase, right?

[clicks heels together, gives snappy salute]

Captain Gandolf Grey reporting for duty sir!

[beside me a Ewok wearing a white uniform gives a much more casual salute]

...And this is Grand Admiral Ketch. I nominate Ketch as the unit mascot and spokesEwok.

Commodore Brand, I agree that you should be leader. Do you decide promotion of ranks or is that left up to Squadron/Wing/Flight/Whatever-they-are-called leaders like Lord Bane?
Alert me of any new threads that we need to defend. I think that after we do missions that we should have a briefing.

Also, I like the idea of a webpage for us. I wouldn't mind helping out with that.

    OK team, here's the deal:

I'm going to start an entirely new thread for our EU DEFENSE FORCE. It will be our Home Base and will have, in the first post, all the data on our squadron and how we operate. I will also have our new name appended to the new picture we have for our force.

At that point I will post a beacon in this thread telling people to let this thread sink and to use the new one as our home.

Until then, continue to use this thread.

(Oh, and I also have an idea for a web page. More about that later.)

    Commodore, out

Sorry Commodore Ganner, after reading Agents of Chaos, Brand just follows Commodore but I will make a better effort. Maybe I should make less visits to the cantinas on Tatooine...

'Commodore' Brand is a continuity ****up in the NJO books...

"Commodore Brand" was the captain of a NR cruiser attached to the Fifth Fleet in the BFC, commander of the squadron which destroyed the Black Nine shipyard at Prildaz.

Note to all Americans and anyone who puts too much faith in the WEG rank tables for SW: the *rank* of Commodore comes between Captain and Rear-Admiral (or, in the UK and some other countries, their air-force analogues).
