Saga Hypothetical: If Luke Turned to the Dark Side, what would his SIth name be?

"Darth" naming conventions seem to vary a lot. Sometimes it's a word (Bane, Ruin) sometimes it's a derivative of a word (Sidious for insidious, Tyranus for tyrannous- and I'm guessing Maladi for malady) sometimes it's the guy's actual name or cognomen (Revan, Malak, Maul) and I think there might be cases where it's a made-up word.

Question is- which do people like more?

 

Depends on the character. I've thought the creators usually managed to get a good name regardless of which route they take.

That being said...Supreme Commander/Lord Skywalker, as Luke is referred to in Dark Empire, works fine for me. He don't need no weirdo name to terrify incompetent underlings.

 

That wasn't mentioned as a serious name, it was more of a humorous example

Something simple like Darth Luke.

Sounds funny if you imagine the emperor saying it.

 

Lord Skywalker has a nice ring to it! And somewhat ironic, considering he started out as a farmboy and his father was a slave.

But I prefer Master Skywalker. Unfortunately, the only time we hear it so far is under less than happy circumstances

 

Yeah. I like how the 'Lord' implication in Star Wars turns 'Skywalker' from inspiring to fearsome.

Yes, the celestial demi-god (which is what they are). I'm happy Lucas decided to change to Skywalker in the end. Starkiller is not bad but a bit cheesy.

 

Starkiller is outright lame.

Which is why its in TFU, I guess.

 

Some guy called George also thought it was pretty crap some time in 1976, dropped it from the movie he was shooting at the time & never saw fit to use it again, even though he would later recycle many a weird name he'd turfed along the way for further stories (Utapau, Mace Windy/Windu, padawaan, Yuzzum, etc).

Some accounts insist it was GL being sensitive to the Sharon Tate murders, but they occurred in 1969, the Starkiller name was still in the script when shooting began in 1976.

I guess some dorky video game designers never really understood that it was always just a lame-sounding name - decades later, they simply thought it was a "HARDCORE!!!" version of 'Skywalker'.

 

They dropped it literally the day shooting began, didn't they?

 

Later during the shooting, I think. The first time we hear Luke's last name is when he introduces himself to Princess Leia.

Starkiller could be a decent name for the battle station... maybe.

 

Yeah, I doubt it had much to do with the Manson killings so much as GL deciding it was a bad name for the good guy.

Although if GL ever wants to make a real-life tragedy, I'd suggest Tate's murder and the affect it had on Roman Polanski is begging for a film or two.

 

Well, Skywalker does, at least to me, suggest a type of 'skies-the-limit' type of dream, i guess.

 

In the second draft of Star Wars, the Starkiller is a nickname (and so is Skywalker).

 

Pretty sure it was changed approximately halfway through, around about the time the production departed Tunisia. Basically, Mark Hamill is playing Luke Starkiller in all the Tatooine scenes.

I suspect the change happened during the rewrites which resulted in Obi-Wan dying on the Death Star.

I have read some accounts which claim the change occurred the day before, or on the first day of shooting - more recent stuff like Rinzler contradicts this quite categorically, however.

 

Hmm, okay. Well, thank the crumbcake they changed it.
