Icon Thread--Version 7: Don't underestimate the power of the icons...

Well, that's out of my hands now.

Is DV the only one that can do this, or can any admin upload icons?

 

"Tampa Bay Lightning" can be taken out of the hockey icons. They lost to the Devils today.

 

I guess you can take out "Calgary Flames" as well. Damn Red Wings...

 

I like the one you posted with a transparent background best.

First, let's be fair - you're overreacting. It has not been months, and 99% of the current voting results have been uploaded. If you have a problem, please PM me instead of constantly posting about it here. I don't read this thread every day, but I do check my PM's if I only have few minutes over lunch or whatnot.

I'll try to explain why you may be feeling like the Star Wars images are being neglected. As you probably know, every single icon on this board has been uploaded by hand, one at a time, and had to have specific changes made to the upload form for whatever the properties of the image are. With Star Wars icons that means changing the name of the icon, the folder on the server, the section of the icon menu, and the resolution. With sports icons most of them are the same resolution, I can name them all the same, and they all go into one folder. So I can upload almost two or three times as many sports icons in the time that it takes to upload just a few Star Wars ones. Hence, if I only have a few minutes sometimes the sports ones get uploaded first, and that's the only reason why. That's not an excuse, that's honestly the reason. (Though I have a few ideas to make the SW ones go a bit faster in the future.) Does that help a bit?

Your last POST in this thread besides these was 2/1/07, so yes it's been a while since you offered an update. However, a couple of your images were auto-uploaded and others were put into the folders for future voting. (As I told you via PM.)

And what was my reply? "they're in there and just haven't been uploaded yet" (yes, we really do have that many in the queue.) Have faith, they're in there. They're on the way.

Technically any manager can. However this is an area that we try to stay very exclusive on, so 99.9% of the time that's what the icon manager does. It's better to have one person do it because otherwise no one would know what was uploaded and what wasn't.


Regardless of what happens, when it happens, and otherwise, I hope most of you know that I will always address every single issue that I am aware of. No comments fall on deaf ears here, and even the little things are considered when mentioned. So please don't lose ambition or stop PM'ing me if you ever have issues to discuss. I think we'll start a new icon thread this week just to help tie off some of these old discussions and move on. Thanks again for all the hard work!

Got some more for ya, DVeditor. First round of the NHL Playoffs is over, so "Calgary Flames", "Tampa Bay Lightning", and "Dallas Stars" icons can also be taken off.

 

Before I put these images into a poll, I wanted to make sure I have them all. Any other versions we need to be considering?

See what I mean about the source images I mentioned earlier? Sure, we get new images with the new comics and stuff, but everybody uses the same images. Out of about ten of them, the odds are pretty slim that mine would be picked.

I think some of that comes with the title, so to speak. There's only so much out there and while you guys use far more imagery than I usually find, you're bound to overlap on certain things. That's why y'all are the best at this though - you manage to keep things new and fresh regardless!

(And no that's not a suck-up, that's honesty. You all do a great job and it is very appreciated.)


Now then, I've added the icons I missed before to the other Mara ones and uploaded them to the voting page. This will be a special vote, and I'm going to ask that everyone only pick one that they like best for use here. If we have a tie, we'll have a tie-breaking round. As a general note, I'd rather we not do this very often but no one had any control over this so I think it's safe to say that this is a special circumstance. I may be willing to upload more than one size depending on how things turn out...but for now let's just see how this goes!

 

Keeping it fresh is the hard, I still don't know how I happen accross un-used images.
