Well, that's not exactly what happened, but you're entitled to hold any theory you like.

Well we can't really talk about what exactly happened can we?

No, it's not really meta right now.

Zandalor and I will write a TCW episode to discuss, in a meta fictional way, what happened.

I am considering the following titles:

    Rising Malevolence
    Cloak of Darkness
    Defenders of Peace
    Evil Plans
    Overlords
    A Friend In Need
    Friends & Enemies

Although apparently 3/4 of the TCW episode titles could apply, one way or another. :p

A meta conversation is a conversation about a conversation. This means we are now having a meta meta conversation, or a conversation about a conversation about a conversation.

    Meta meta conversations FTW.

Yeah, I get that, but is it possible to describe this in metaphor?

Oh, I don't know, I'm just a casual fan of meta discussions and meta meta discussions.

If you think that's how it works then you can have all my lols. Being friends with mods in the past hasn't done me any favours, I have received my share of bans. It only stands to reason that "sucking up to them" is just as futile.

But if we're going for conspiracy theories here then I always have been under the belief that Garth is the pixie king of the illuminati. I have come to this assumption off of experience and opinion. And not sarcasm at all, no siree.[face_batting]

    *waves white flag*

Speaking from my own perspective, I just want to bring up two things here. Feel free to ignore me otherwise -- it's simply my take on the matter:

    1) This is Star Wars forum.
    - A forum is designed for discussion. Even debates. It promotes the spread of ideas. But it's not a popularity contest. Sure, it's a community. But it's a community of discussants sharing ideas.
    - Star Wars is about having fun. It's recreational. Debating the intricacies of canon can be considered srs bsns sometimes, but if you find you find that you're spending in inordinate amount of time on an issue and making personal jabs at others who don't share your view, sometimes it's good to just step away from the computer for a while and tell yourself there's more to life than convincing others their opinion is wrong on the internetz.

    2) Because this is the internet, and hence a network, it's difficult for every one of us to take something at face value. People are communicating all over the place. Onsite, offsite, in real life, what-have-you -- and for our purposes here, we've got the private messaging system to consider.

So at any given time there are several LACWAC-related conversations going on that aren't taking place in LACWAC-proper. Heck, there was one the other day in Lit. And I'm not talking about TCW -- I'm talking about LACWAC, our forum, and the forum-goers.

The thing is that with all these dozens upon dozens of conversations going on, on the main boards and in private messages, it's easy to miss things. None of us has the full picture. And it's equally easy to play the telephone game with what little information we do have.

And unfortunately, that naturally leads to a lot of distrust. And lately, hostility where there doesn't need to be any to begin with.

"What little information we do have"? You mean the information that we are specifically told we are not allowed to discuss here under any circumstances with the threat of bans if we do? That any time a debate over quality assuredly turns into a haters/gushers war, and the constant ridicule by people who cannot take dissenting opinions without feeling personally insulted? That when confronting these issues, we are either ignored, given non answers, or accused of masterminding elaborate plots to singularly troll one individual?

I'd say that does a lot more to harbor mistrust than having multiple easily accessed conversations across multiple forums because someone doesn't want to take the extra effort to find the whole picture.

Apart from the guys who regularly spam porn on our own forums. They're considerate.

Zandalor - we are not discussing the bans, literally, metaphorically, or onomatopoeically.

This has been the board standard since the boards have existed. There is no grand conspiracy here or even a little one.

So the point of the thread is to discuss the situation and see how we can try to improve the boards. And despite the snarky remarks you have contributed to the conversation :)

The basher/gusher debates do get tiresome and you know I have always supported the rights of individuals here to say how much they hate the show.

You're again, assuming, that those who jump on the "bashers" (ha, autocorrect to "badgers") haven't been warned or banned, when that's not the case.

Zandalor, my point is this: there are conversations going on concerning this forum that you are not aware of. There are conversations I am not aware of. Or Cary, or Garth, or Tarkus, or Grimby. It's just the nature of the internet.

Stuff went down this summer. Multiple conversations were had. Multiple misunderstandings and assumptions were made. Some people were either really bored or really confused, and got riled up. If everyone had had the full picture, if the internet were not such a complicated place, this would not have happened. But just like in real life, internet communication is and always has been imperfect. So things were said that should not have been said, and people obsessed over things that were not worth obsessing over.

I understand why you're upset. I'm upset too: I wish I could understand exactly why things happened the way they did. The main issue right now is that some stuff was taken wayyyy too far by some folks, even if it had originally begun with the good intent of a few laughs.

I'm trying to decide what to do with @Chewgumma's absolutely insane theory that has no basis in reality whatsoever that I am the pixie king of the Illuminati.

    If I was that completely non-existent person, I'd probably drop cyptic hints about hidden subtext in TCW and in LACWAC and the whisper of a rumor of a legendary discussion board that is invite-only, where we discuss the changes we will have Dave make to TCW. [face_skull]8-}

You're not upset, considering that YOU were the one who insisted on the grand trolling conspiracy in the first place. You said it yourself on the temp boards.

I don't understand what you mean. I said I was upset because I don't understand how things -- including trolling, because that certainly happened too -- got out of hand in the first place. And the reason I don't understand is because I have no idea what conversations took place behind the scenes. If you want my full perspective on how things happened, check out Jack's signature links thread on the temp boards.
