I haven't seen 12 Years a Slave or Justin Bieber: Believe yet. This list is far from final.

have you actually seen it in 2d? i did the first time i watched it and it felt like something was missing the whole time. watched in 3d a few days later and it really did make a world of difference.

Huh. I haven't, actually. I'll probably watch it again soon on a non-3D medium, so I guess I'll see then. I can't imagine feeling like the 3D was "missing" for most of the movie, though. The opening sequence and the later shrapnel scenes were enhanced by it, but there's a lot more to the movie than the action scenes.

The World's End is the greatest comedy, at least, of the year.

probably true. it's just that i was looking at pegg and saying why are you playing the goof and looking at frost and saying why are you playing the straight guy? i appreciate that they are trying to change it up but i just didn't buy it.

maybe "the whole time" was a slight exaggeration but it definitely wasn't just the action scenes. i think the scene with ryan's tears is probably the most glaring example, but there were plenty of other quiet moments that were clearly intended to be in 3d, such as the part where ryan is floating through the space station and various objects are floating through the frame. maybe if i didn't know the movie was shot in 3d it wouldn't have been distracting, but at times it really was. i imagine it will be less so on a small screen though.

It actually wasn't. Which makes all the post-production hackjobs that rolled out in the wake of Avatar somehow much worse.

In no particular order of relevance, films I enjoyed immensely:

    Olympus Has Fallen
    This Is The End
    The World's End
    The Wolverine
    Fast & Furious 6
    Pain & Gain
    The Iceman
    Pacific Rim
    42
    Red 2
    The Hunger Games: Catching Fire
    Oldboy
    Homefront
    Bad Grandpa
    Thor: The Dark World
    The Hangover III

    The "meh"/disappointing category:

    Elysium
    Man of Steel
    The Identity Thief
    The Incredible Burt Wonderstone
    Oz the Great and Powerful
    World War Z
    Star Trek: Into Darkness

Why the **** did I have any expectations for this turd?:

    The Internship

Films that I'll have to drink massive amounts of liquor to forget that I saw them:

    Scary Movie V
    Only God Forgives

I would think you'd need massive amounts of liquor--or at least some other form of brain trauma--to forget any movie you saw this year.

In theory, if I were to concentrate hard enough, even when plastered beyond the buzzed stage, I think I could forget about those truly terrible pieces of cinematic garbage without sacrificing the good memories.

I have hope that these subplots they've developed will help it support its otherwise undeserved runtime, unlike AUJ which was just thirty minutes too long thanks to needlessly long action/exposition sequences and a fifteen minute prologue.
