London, ON London Carnival Parade

I got this message and this would be good for our group. As alway it's up to the group if we do an event.

Hello Robert,
I am trying to contact you because we are organizing an event "London Carnival Parade" to be held in London on Saturday, June 13, 2009 starting at 10:00 a.m.
The cause of this event is to collect books in different languages other than English to create an International pavillion at the London Public Library.

 

I'd like more information about it, but the date sounds OK to me.

 

Ok the parade starts at Dundas and Colborne goes up Dundas to Richmond, then down to Duffern, then to Clarance and on to Victoria park. The parade starts at 10:00 AM. Once in the park the festival goes untill 6:00 PM.

This is a new group trying to get people to donate non-English books to the library. Here's the face book group.

I could do the parade but would not be able to stay long for the festival. I have to work.

 

My input is that we do the parade but perhaps not the festival in Victoria Park - unless we have some people to volunteer to staff a table or something. I'm still not really sure what they have in mind...

 

Well it is a Saturday. We can try and get people from the other group to come out too.

 

I'll have to see. I work saturdays now, but I'm sure I could get someone to trade or pick up my shift if I need to.

 

So it looks like we're all leaning to a "yes" here.

So far I've gotten maybes, as scheduling is not definite work-wise for people on that date. I can go to the parade, so that would make 5 total for Yes, with some maybes. Do you have a goal for attendance before you commit to the parade?

 

No but only 3 or 4 people really looks bad.

I have a few extra costumes if anyone would like to be in the parade but doesn't have a costume.

 

I have an extra Jedi robes and Kristyn will be there if Fantyx is and she'll borrow my black robe.

 

I'm still working on getting the day off. If I'm unlucky and go back to overnights in June, I'll be able to get there.

 

I spoke with VaderJay and he & his wife plan on coming.

 

We have another shift bid going on now, to take effect June 8. We won't know till next week what shift we get. I have a doctor's note to submit, so hopefully it goes into effect by then and I'll have Saturdays off.

 

We should find out what the plan is for the parade on Saturday. I have a few friends who will be coming out, and a few of the Niagara-area folks are coming, and I need to let them know when and where we need to meet.

They are sending out the info tomorrow night. I'll pot it here and on facebook as soon as I get it.

 

when would people need to be in line for the parade? For the Beaches it was always 2 hours before the start.

What about getting changed? is there a plan for that?

 

grey_starr, that would be great if you can make it for the parade! I'm thinking that after we've marched we can all go out for lunch before everyone goes on their separate ways.

Hopefully we don't need to be there earlier than 9:00. Lord_Robert, any word yet?

I plan to just change by the car. There will be a few of us doing the same thing, I suspect. Maybe we can co-ordinate something. VaderJay will likely have his van. Maybe we can rig some sort of change area with the hatch-back.

The parade route is 1.5 km, by the way, which is a 20 minute walk at a normal pace.
