Ok, still working on this costume. Been slow coming. Right now I have the body suit done and am working on the little "back pack" and strapping. Now comes the fun part of choosing a wig. I have it narrowed down to 5 choices:

    Ebay 1 (Hong Kong)
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=310136017703

    Ebay 2 (US)
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=110417046056

    Ebay 3 (Hong Kong)

    Glamor Girl:

    Seductress
    http://www.theatricalshop.com/wigs/images/591-70325.jpg

Thoughts or opinions on these? I've listed them in order of my favorites. The top one looks great but it's coming from Hong Kong and I need it by Gen Con next month. So currently I'm leaning toward #2 (the US Ebay auction). But I'm open to suggestions.

In my opinion (again, just my own opinion, so it may not mean much), I would say that for the Mara Jade costume, the "Seductress" wig looks the best. But that is just me....

Hey, I'm looking for any and all opinions :) Could you give me your reasonings why that would look the best? Occasionally I have problems looking outside my little box and hearing your (or anyone's thoughts) would help.

If nothing else, that wig is available locally and would save me on shipping :D

I think seductress has the best style, for me Mara has always had a bit of curly hair rather than straight, but it it isn't red enough. The first HK choice looked too pink on my monitor.

I love the first one but it is much too red for Mara. Perhaps for a Phoenix costume :)

I think the 2nd ebay one is going to be the best of those, you can always add a little soft waviness to it by putting the wig in large curlers and pouring boiling water over it then cold water and letting it dry. This will set the curls and you can brush them out to create waves.
You can set curls with a dry heat (hair dryer)- I have used this to fix a hairline in a wig before. it works but it's easier using the boiling water method. Just make sure to use a wig stand and somewhere for the water to drain away.

Not to brag...I hate bragging so please do not see this as bragging. I am blessed to have Mara hair. I just have to dye it because when I turned 30, my naturally red hair started to turn Brown. :( LOL! Happened to my mom too. Have fun. I cannot wait to see what you choose and how it looks!

I need to lose weight and get buff to be a proper Mara. Here is apic of my doing my best Mara under the circumstances...

Please ignore the bad lightsaber I made. I can make a good one now. And I can repair this one. AND I need to lose weight. But I love the pic of her in Camo. :D I TRIES to look Bad***. Hahaha! I am no costumer yet, but I am learning. I am a poster (okay I used to be) in the Rebel Legion. AND I am dying my hair today :)

Interesting about curling a wig, thanks for the tips!

I think I am going to end up getting the Glamour Girl wig. I can pick that up locally for fairly cheap. It's not perfect, but it's red enough and curly enough (if not a little too curly).

I think it all depends on whether or not you planned to have her hair as red-gold or dark red. Zahn himself stated it's more of a red-gold but I've always pictured her with darker red hair.

Anyways, I'm a wig stylist so I've done a fair lot of modifying (cutting, dying, curling, etc) wigs in gradients to get effects done and I'd love to offer my services but I'm currently abroad.

I'd recommend checking out these two sites as they have amazing wigs in many styles and all sorts of colors!
    Cosworx
    Amphigory

I'd really suggest these three... as the list of wigs on those sites can be over-whelming!
Natalie Wig in either 130 or F.Red (click on Colors: New Look to see the colors yourself)
    Coquette Wig in #R147
    Celeste Wig in Coppery Red

Please don't hesitate to email me if you have any wig questions. That applies to ALL of you. :)

...And I'm also going to do a Mara costume myself. Her Jabba's Palace disguise as "Arica" as I always wanted to do a Jabba's Palace outfit but Slave Leia is overdone imho and this is my fave Mara!

Did you custom make your shin guards? Those and the knee pads I'm having a lot of trouble with.

I bought a wig yesterday. It ended up being the Seductress that I linked above. In person it's a lot more red and less brunette and it's got some sass to it :) When I have time to get it properly tamed I'll post pics.

    Thank you J-L :)

Yep those were custom made from cut down TK shins. I cut them down to fit and (plastic) welded the decorative elements to it.

They are tough to do but so worth it. The design I went with is straight from one of the Star Wars Tales stories.

So what is the best hair dye to get a good Mara color? I have read it all and was wondering which is the best that washes out in a few weeks at most, I have darkish brown hair so it would need to work well for my hair color. Also I would like to know if anyone knows a good place/person to get a Dl44 blaster. Thanks so much. :D

I'd look for a temporary mousse dye of some sort. My personal favourite was the L'Oreal Color Pulse dye series, but they discontinued the line. :( You can still find it in some places, though, if you look around the internet. Amazon has a few shades, so I'd look into that. It works on dark hair, though it may only be apparent under certain lights. I have medium brown hair, and I used to get the purple dye all the time. Best hair colour ever. :p

As for the blaster, hasbro has a DL-44 that is orange, but can look pretty good with some paint. I think it might also make noise, which is totally awesome. There are other sources, but they're pretty expensive and I get the impression you're looking for something more budget friendly. But the hasbro blaster toys are great with a little love. I use a spray painted hasbro E-11 with my Leia costume, and it's fantastic.

Thanks for the hair dye thing, I might look at that blaster but I'm looking for more real size, how big is the blaster? If it isn't too much trouble would you be able to post a pic, maybe with your hand for perportions?
    :)

I haven't had much luck finding the color pulse, but if you have any others that would work well I'm open to sugestions.

I am buying a catsuit due to a lack of time and trouble finding the right fabric.
I would like an opinion, is the first one better or the second?
