Don't get either...it's all about debit cards. Don't fall into the credit card trap that most college students, like myself have fallen into.

I have a debit card, but I want to build up good credit by making little purchases a month and paying it off.

Be careful. To build good credit is one thing, but too many "this rounds on me" can lead you down a dark path.

HINT: Charge only what you have money for.

    Also, go Vader!!!

    Have FUN!!

Well Beware before you do this if you want one of the cool design cards you NEED Good/Excellent credit. You MUST qualify for $5000 worth of credit otherwise you will get a card that just says Star Wars in the upper left corner. Just thought you might like to know that before you get too excited.

Do any of you know if there are any cards I can get as my first card with no credit that gets me points or miles or any cool crap? If it's just going to say Star Wars I'm not going to be too happy.

Try Discover. They give cash back.

Discover is a good option. try the bank where your money is they might give you some incentive cause you already have money there.

Capital One: Low Limit to start off, but an excellent way to build credit.

J.C. Penny? Bah. Get a Sears card, much more useful. You can't get electronics or hardware at Penny's.

I have a Toys R Us Visa from Chase. If you spend enough they send you TRU money. It is especially good if you shop at TRU alot since purchased there are worth more than other purchases.

Herb, you can get electronics at J.C. P's.

But Sears is absolutely the hardest card to get.

When I had AAA Credit, where I could buy a house if I wanted too...I still could not get one.

I was preapproved and I was 20...and I had AA credit. And I had a starting credit limit of $1,500. I don't know what the hell is wrong with you Shawn. ?[face_plain]

Sears has like 23% APR, as does Macys. Shawn is right, go with the J.C. Penneys card. I think they are around 18%.

I don't see how you get 23%? When I looked at my most recent statement, my APR was 17%. Honestly, depending on your credit, you'll get decent credit or APR or not. Meh.
