    PLJ,

Well said. I'm still intent on hearing Obi Can's explanation. Although, we may already know, some don't. And although, we may be able to separate the fantasy from reality, some can't. I'm determined to hear Obi's rationale, and I think she owes it to those who have been lurking here, curious as to the motivations any individual might have for supporting whatever aspect of the story that bears some interest to them.

    Obi,

    Still waiting.

    Oh.

    Heh, now what about this...

I was watching some of the behind the scenes stuff on the TPM DVD- and what do you know- it showed Lucas actually drawing some of Padme's attire.

I could really slam some bashers in the face with that when they say that Lucas doesn't do any of the designs, he just smiles and puts a stamp on the ones he likes.

He did design the Fireplace scene dress as well. Poor Natalie's eyes nearly fell out of her head when she saw that one!

    Zam-

I feel for you. They've been re-roofing my building- for the last 2 weeks it's been nothing but BOOM KA-BLAM building shaking- nervously looing around wondering if some stinky guy is going to fall through the roof. :D

Here's some JC to chew over:

Nevertheless- and here is the great key to the understanding of myth and symbol-the two kingdoms are actually one. The realm of the gods is a forgotten dimension of the world we know. And the exploration of that dimension, either willingly or unwillingly, is the whole sense of the deed of the hero. The values and distinctions that in normal life seem important disappear with the terrifying assimilation of the self into what formerly was otherness....There must always remain, however, from the standpoint of normal waking consciousness, a certain baffling inconsistency between wisdom brought forth from the deep, and the prudence usually found to be effective in the light world.

This is then the hero's return: His consciousness having succumbed, the unconscious nevertheless supplies its own balances, and he is born back into the world from which he came. Instead of holding to and saving his ego, as in the pattern of the magic flight, he loses it, and yet, through grace, it is returned.

This brings us to the final crisis of the round, to which the whole miractulous excursion has been but a prelude- that, namely, of the paradoxical, supremely difficult threshold-crossing of the hero's return from the mystic realm into the land of common day. Whether rescued from without, driven from within, or gently carried along by the guiding divinities, he has yet to re-enter with his boon the long- forgotten atmostphere where men who are fractions imagine themselves to be complete. He has yet to confront society with his ego-shattering, life-redeeming elixir, and take the return blow of reasonable queries, hard resentment, and good people at a loss to comprehend.

Poor you!! They are doing major reconstruction here, totally changing things around. They are even taking out our break room to make room for more cubefarms. So now its a 20 minute trek to the other side of the buioding for pop and munchies instead of the 10 second walk. or it will be soon. They ate totally remodeling this place and it is getting on my nerves.

    Hmmm...

Really now, what evidence is there that Padme REALLY soothes, calms, or controls Anakin?

If anything, by being his accomplice, in tacitly covering for him, by NOT making him face the consequences of the Tusken slaughter, by NOT making him choose between her and the Jedi, by (in much smaller, more playful ways!) encouraging his more rebellious side (I will go after Obi Wan, and then you just have to follow me to protect me....), she is helping set the stage for his eventual explosion and downfall. Anakin is ultimately responsible, but this image of Padme as a soothing, calming, moderating presence....I don't see that...no matter what Anakin may SAY, the facts belie this. Padme is falling for a dangerous young man, and by refusing to say "enough", she is playing right into Palpatine's hands....

As to my comments re the cuddly, the cutesy, etc...come now, you have to admit, this thread is prone to it. Didn't we just have about a thousand posts discussing dreamy guys, pics of Anakin, his gauzy shirt, etc.? *S* Hey, whatever floats anyone's boat is fine by me; there are certainly plenty of fan boy threads panting over Padme's torn "belly shirt" and the relative "hotness" of various female Jedi. But I don't know how I can be seen as a real nasty for simply pointing out the obvious - this thread does tend, at times, to get all weak in the knees about how nice the romance in AOTC is. Sorry if that observation offends some... but take a good look back over the last few pages for some immediate feedback on whether that observation is fair.

    ;)

I noticed that too, Pooja. GL sure is a man of many talents. I just read the Drew Struzan interview in which he mentioned how great George is to work with because he himself wanted to be an illustrator when he was young. The TPM DVD really shows that side of him. I was impressed by how specific he was in what he wanted for Padme's clothes. He's very detail-oriented.

He did design the Fireplace scene dress as well. Poor Natalie's eyes nearly fell out of her head when she saw that one!

LOL...I wish I could've seen her reaction. She probably made a mental note to herself to not eat anything on the day of filming for that scene. Getting into that thing and staying in it must've been an adventure. :)

Check out this gorgeous picture of Jean Claude Van Damme (Or as one of my friends calls him "Jean Claude Van Dam#it"). This is two awesome looking creations of God, Almighty. "It's not my fault!"
