Perhaps I can't read, but is this original edition or special edition? Just wondering...it would be great if both were available at some point. It's about time that something came out on DVD anyway. :p

    It's 99.449% likely that it's the SE.

I don't really mind one way or the other which edition but it would be really cool if they could offer both because... I want both! (Greedy, I know!) But I can't wait!!! My SW movies remain among the very few I have on video - I love DVDs! I am so excited about these DVDS! They better have some good special features, I mean they've had all these years to come up with stuff! :p

I'm assuming its going to be the rumored super extra special edition, with even more edits. George just can't leave well enough alone.

"The versions on DVD will feature only the special editions, LucasFilm spokeswoman Lynn Hale said."

    SW on DVD

I'm not sure if there will ever be the Super-Duper-Deluxe-Ultimate Editions. I bet the SE is the end. But who knows?!? Uncle George loves money! :)

A LFL Rep said This isn't a democracy, it's an artistic vision...or something like that.
I know these are GL's movies, but if I were him I'd feel I owed at least a little something to the people that made me what I am today!
If he fix the whole Han/Greedo thing, I'd be 85% happier about this.

I wish he'd change that too, actually. That's probably the only thing on the SE that REALLY bugs me.

Luke's scream as he falls down the shaft on Bespin really bugs me. I loved every (I think) change they made to Empire except that.

I haven't watched the original trilogy in several years now... I may have to haul the VCR out of storage and give it a watch.

a friend of mine recently asked me to show him the trilogy and i showed him the original originals...no SE. that scream on bespin is awful. i think the only SE change i like is the end of RotJ with the new song. i wasn't too keen on the yub yub song.

Ok, Greedo and the Luke scream. Everything else is mostly ok...as long as they fix the rest of the effects that they missed in the SE. :)
    Mostly saber stuff.

I have never seen the end of ROTJ SE so I'm looking forward to that!

Basically I have the original cuts on VCR which is a great thing for me.

I'm looking forward to a better picture and better sound which DVD offers.

Any special features will be good.
I heard it will have new bigger documentries.

    Can't wait....

It is a cruel joke. We're not getting the original versions...or the Holiday Special!
George should make a SE Holiday Special

Here is an update on the set

    As reported on STARWARS.COM

The two-sided package features elegant, embossed cover art, either rendered in platinum for the widescreen editions, or in gold for the full screen versions. The illustration showcases the heroes of the classic trilogy, Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Han Solo and the droids, in a format that harkens back to the original release poster. Looming on the opposite side is Darth Vader, the definitive film villain whose rise and fall is at the core of the saga.

The Star Wars Trilogy on DVD is a four-disc set that contains A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi and a bonus disc of all new special features. Each of the four discs in the set will have its own dedicated packaging, designed to fit seamlessly on the shelf with the Star Wars DVDs already in your collection.

You can view pictures of packaging at STARWARS.COM

I wonder if certain stores will have different goodies for pre-ordering like they did for Episode I.
