[TECH] Can't ZeroSleep implement a Toolbar for us like other forums?

Not really lazy, but you know, I do a lot of coding ALREADY, unlike MOST JCers.

It appears you don't understand the nature of IGN board coding. It also appears you didn't understand my question to JM22, which did indeed have a point. I trust at least a few people got my meaning with it.

Instead of just having IGN to deal with, zerosleep now has Gamespy to work with. There are things with a lot more priority than a toolbar.

 

I think the lack of that toolbar keeps everybody from making their posts annyoing just like that. You would need effort to make your posts look really annoying. It's bad enough that it doesn't take effort to be annoying.

I 100% agree with TwiLekJedi. If people are too lazy to figure out the codes, or just to type them, all the better. plain text posts are the best anyways. What I REALLY hate it when certain people make all of their post in a certain color, with a horrible background color. hint.

Man, If it were up to me, I think I'd even take AWAY more markup codes. It's obviously not though I really think it's great how only mods can use html though.

EDIT: Also, since ZS is the only one who makes coding changes, with all the other stuff that needs to be done, I think this change would be pratically at the very BOTTOM of the list.

 

I think you could have a toolbar thing, it'd stop people getting tags wrong. My uni message boards has some cool options. It has buttons for tags so all you have to do is click them, and it has the faces as well. It could be useful, or, as TwiLek said, a lot of people could abuse it.

It'd probably take a while to code it as well. And when that's been done, it'd have to be implemented. A huge task, if you ask me. It might not even be practicle.

Also, it might not be up to ZeroSleep wether we have it or not. I dont know though, so I could be wrong.

In the long term, it's a good idea, and I hope we eventually get this. In the short term, there are a number of features that I want to see implemented first.

I know, i mean there's two kinds of people: 1. don't know them, 2. dont like having to type them out.

I guess I'm just a fan of the simple posts.

Two things.

1. Go have a look in the Informational Threads forum, especially at some of the heavy indices. Nothing you could do would remotely reach those levels, which were all originally coded by hand.
2. Really, there are only about 10 actual mark-up codes that are used here, and they are common UBB ones, so they should be known from almost any other forum that people visit.

As others have said, there are a lot of other things that would be extremely more beneficial for these forums than simply making it easier for some people to format posts.

Better IP tracking, improved private messages, the ability to assign moderator powers, the ability to define our own UBB codes, a profanity censor, greatly increased ability to define how the boards display, a few bug-fixes here and there (fixing the board sorting problem is at the top of that list), changes in the way that the image tag works, and maybe one or two others.

 

How about capability to merge redundant threads, too?

 

Merge isn't one I'm too concerned about, but Move Thread is one that I forgot but would be great to have.
