Wow, I finally crawled out from under my rock and looked at the AYB site and finally understand.

It still doesn't make any sense as to why "all your base" is so well known and widespread. Just one of those weird things.

Am I in the club now? :D

It is just one of those weird things, one of those internet phenomena. Kind of like Snakes on a Plane, really. It's just so funny and quirky that you want to joke about it and tell your friends about it, and then they tell their friends about it, and so on.

In case an AYBABTU summary is in order, for those who came in late... It all started with a game for the Sega Genesis called Zero Wing. It was a pretty generic side-scrolling space shooter. The only notable thing about it was how hilariously badly the intro was translated when it was released in America. Engrish at its absolute finest. The villain gloats to the good guys that "All your base are belong to us!" and the captain of the ship gives the order to "Take off every Zig," among other classicly quotable lines. (I know I still occasionally greet my brothers with "How are you gentlemen!!!" :p) A few years ago there was a massive craze of photoshopping the phrase "All your base are belong to us" into otherwise ordinary pictures, and that formed the basis of the video. It's been copied and remixed a million times since, but that one's the original and best.

    For great justice!

That is hardly scientific, the second tolly was metal, having a different weight and being more rigid.

i suggest they try again, using identical trollies.

I recall the "All Your Base" thing really took off in Tribes, the awesome team FPS CTF on PC (1998 or so). As the game featured Bases and Flag Capping, when a team's base was overrun by the enemy, there was no real flag defense, and capping was easy.

When a team was owning, they'd taunt with the "All Your Base" line. I'm not sure if AYB was around on the net before 98, but it's possible. Tribes was one of the key sources of AYB proliferating. IMO, of course.

You're quite correct. That's why that 'official' site is still hosted at Planet Tribes.

I prefer the "my cubicle" one (was that posted here somewhere? Can't find the link, look for it if it hasn't), but this has some merits.

    That's awesome (ZOMG)...

The last part (about ZMOG) is actually funny. While reading it, you're actually saying the various words out loud.

    Ask Cthulhu

Well, it's not quite as nicely done as Ask a Ninja or Axe a Pirate (both of which are pretty darn cool) - but interesting enough to post here at least :p .
