I'm an Austrian girl that has been in Manchester for nine weeks and was unlucky enough that it was broken in twice - both time was stolen the laptop. I had to return home and couldn't continue my ERASMUS year at MMU

since there are still several other ERASMUS mates at MMU and I thought GMex would be an good excuse to visit ... since it is cancelled, Sie started this thread to organize a meet anyway

That's to sum it up why the meet and who I'm

What do you like to cook?? Most of us are pretty easy-going when it comes to food.

 

I'll eat more or less anything eatable

So...i'd like to pop along to this, it could potentially be my first actual meet with any of you like, though i did get a round of intro's at the last Gmex event! Anyone mind if i come along? My sister lives conveniently locally, so i'll likely take the opportunity to test her hospitality once more, but it's nice and easy access from hers for me!

alright, 7 1/2 weeks kinda puts me at ease *kinda* i'm a veggie as well, so that settles that, i guess. i cook a lot of italian and moroccan type things and not too many german. and i'm not very good with potatoes the reason for which escapes me at the moment

Oh, btw Suzi - reason the prices are so expensive for the train is the post-christmas train hike - though i didn't realise it was that expensive - you MIGHT be able to save some money by getting Advanced purchase tickets with GNER as far as York, and then getting a return from York to Manchester. Or, if you want to go REALLY round the houses - you can get advanced tickets from Carlisle to Manchester with Virgin, and get the rickety old bus-train across the top from Newcastle - obviously a longer journey though!

Thanks for the idea re the trains, Ven. I might try hanging on for a bit to see if they come down in price! Failing that, I'll probably take the car.

Well since I don't get GMEX I may as well come and meet my fave Europians Suzi If car share is gonna be cheeper then I'll be willing to hop a train to yoiu for a lift, getting across the pennines is a bloody rip off these days.

People still staying over? If so where and how much?

 

Car sharing looks the cheapest option at the mo- train prices are just ridiculous. I just need to confirm with my Dad that I'll be taking the car for the weekend.
I can pick people up from Darlo station if that's easy for people.

In terms of accommodation, there's a hostel mentioned eariler in this thread, which seems pretty much OK...only possible problem with that is where to park....? Edit: Just rang the hostel and there are NCP Car Parks nearby which would cost roughly £12/day.

 

Oh does anyone fancy going to Jill's in Manchester, I know me and Sie are up for it but anyone else want to bang that head that doesn't bang?
