Winter 2010 Role Playing Forum Awards

Welcome to the Winter 2010 RPF Awards!

Please be sure to review the entire post (even if you?ve done this before) to ensure that everything runs as smoothly as possible.

Purpose of the Awards
Our role playing forums are very special ? unique in their quality and community. We come here to play, but also to work. It?s not easy to build a successful game or navigate through the galaxy with a character. It?s especially challenging now, with three distinct forums dedicated to different aspects of role playing. Many of you dedicate significant amounts of your free time to make this place the best it can be.

These awards have been established in recognition of the extraordinary efforts of you ? our users. The VIPships and publicity awarded to winners are meant to serve as both a reward for a job well done and a way to increase visibility. It is hoped that others will learn from their example, and that they will continue to serve as leaders of these role playing forums.

How it works
Awards are held four times per year, in April (Spring), July (Summer), October (Autumn) and January (Winter).

The four categories for awards are:

Best GM
Best Roleplayer
Best RPG (Star Wars and Non-Star Wars)
Best New RPG (Star Wars and Non-Star Wars)

New RPGs are defined as any active game less than three (3) months old and have over 50 posts at the time of nomination (once a game crosses the 50 post threshold, it may be nominated so long as the window to do so is still open). RPGs must be active (no locked threads may be nominated).

Voting will consist of two rounds:

Round 1:
[ul][li]Lasts for five (5) days[/li]
[li]A time to nominate any active RPG or player[/li]
[li]Once a thread/player has been nominated once, please refrain from nominating them again (one nomination is sufficient to save a spot on the ballot)[/li]
[li]Users may not nominate themselves for awards[/li]
[li]All users may make a total of two (2) nominations per category[/li][/ul]
Any RPG that wins an award becomes ineligible for next season's awards, to ensure fairness and variety. Any players who win awards will be ineligible until the next year.

Round 2
[ul][li]Begins immediately after the results of Round 1 are posted[/li]
[li]A list of all the nominees will be compiled for members to pursue[/li]
[li]You then have seven (7) days to PM your votes from the choices to the host[/li]
[li]Users have the option of voting for up to three (3) people in the Best RPer and best GM categories, and up to two (2) games in the Games categories[/li][/ul]

***Campaigning (ie, soliciting votes and/or nominations) at any time during the awards, in any thread, in any forum, is absolutely not allowed!***
The winners will be announced at the end of Round 2.
Prizes
As always, the part you've all been waiting for.

The winning GMs and Roleplayers will each be awarded VIPship (with the ability to choose custom colors) for one week. In addition, they will earn a place in the "RPF Hall of Fame" in the Community Centre. The winning RPGs will receive a special place in the introductory sticky thread, as well as the right to the title of "Best RPG," until the next season's winners are announced. Moderators are allowed to win Awards, but their prize will be limited to recognition alone. When a moderator places in the Best GM/RPer category, the top three contenders will be recognized, with the two non-mods getting colors. Two non-moderator users are guaranteed colors for every awards season.
The "RPF Stars" Awards

Winners of the RPF Stars Awards will not receive titles or colors, but they are encouraged to place their titles in their sig or bio. The idea behind these awards is to provide recognition for exemplary members of our community who sta

Quick notes on the nominations, guys-

(1) Hoopers isn't a RPG, and Thok isn't actually GMing it. I don't think I can in good conscience put those on the list.
(2) Star Wars: Stranded, Relics of the Past a Republic Commando RPG, and Sins of the Saints don't yet meet the 50 posts minimum for Best New RPG. I'll put them on the list if they get there by the end of the nomination period.
(3) Technically, Star Wars- The Final Resurrection doesn't qualify for Best New RPG, but as it is juuust barely older than 3 months, I'll allow it.

There's still time, so if your game/player is ineligible, feel free to change your noms.

So, my Awards . . . I love this Award stuff. Thanks for those who nominated me, by the way. A great honor!

Best GM:
1. -
2. -

Best RPer:
1. TheSithGirly - She made her impressive full return early this year, when she scared the hell out of us 133 ABY, playing Xenly. She also did some great stuff in 129 ABY, where she reprises her Krayt and now submitted two excellent CS. She might not have the quantity, but surely the quality to be on this list!
2. Sith-I-5 - I am not always a huge fan of his tourney posts, but I can´t resist laughing, when I read them. Despite that he showed he is not only funny, but can totally do drama in Bad Day, where he was a carrying player of my plot, this season. So, yeah!

Best Star Wars RPG:
1. Asylum - Lurking it from time to time only to be scared. Kyle´s death was awesome.
2. Chessboard the Laws of Power - it is overlooked, because they post less frequently, but I was totally impressed how characterplay by two our most solid RPers and a nasty trap on the hcessboard Fin allowed to spring turned into one dramatic finale stage . . . if only Sinre would post! You see. I had to nominate.

Best Non-Star Wars RPG:
1. Sins of the Saints - I got the feeling we will have the fifty posts before this is over, so I do nominate and ingore it, if we seriously walk out with 49 in a few days. The incredible thought that went into it . . .
2. None of my second favourites has made it over 50 posts yet, regrettably.

Best New Star Wars RPG:
1. Star Wars Tropical Terror

Best New Non-Star Wars RPG:
1. Sins of the Saints

7. Most Helpful Person in the RPR: DarkLordoftheFins

ooc: This is obviously Sarge221´s and my final post for this game.

Might actually be the best combined post ever made . . . at least the best I ever read anywhere.

Well! Thank you to all that have nominated me! :)

Okay, my shot.

Nomination Ballot

Best GM:
1. Sir Draco - Buh-linding quality of research and world-setting on Bad Day in L.A..
2. SinRebirth - If I could work out a way to get my characters into the era he does his games, I would be there like a shot. From the meet in London, he came across as extremely knowledgeable, creative and enthused on his subject. If you could run electricity from his enthusiam, he could power a medium sized hatchback.
3. Master-of-Les-Pauls - Sorry to be difficult, but considering Star Wars: Final Resurrection is his first GMing gig, I believe he is doing quite well.

Best RPer:
1. GenOochy - Maybe it is the subject matter. I am always on an adrenalin high after reading one of his posts in Star Wars: Final Resurrection.
2. Ominous - We're seeing some quality writing from this co-GM and player. Hope to see more.

Best Star Wars RPG:
1. Anything in the ABY stable - I am not close enough to be able to tell them apart, so Xan, if any of them appear in this category, just add my point to its tally, please.
2. Man Cubs - Based on a link to one scene, some poor bartender getting a knife thrown in his face, this looks like it has quality players and writing.

Best Non-Star Wars RPG:
1. Bad Day in L.A. -
2. Oz: The Heart of Emerald - Although there is a sterilised bargepole between me and this game that I was in for a good while, it does seem to be going strong, and deserves more recognition. Another quality product from the House of Hammer.

Best New Star Wars RPG:
1. Star Wars: Final Resurrection -
2. -

Best New Non-Star Wars RPG:
1. Bad Day in L.A. - A unique, to me, idea for a game, that immediately attracted my interest and enthusiasm, and has presented me with the opportunity to wander through my work day dazed and thinking: "I'm in a fire-fight. I'm in a fire-fight." after a GM update ended with my character hearing the familiar click of a machine gun from behind her. Sheer class.

Not too much to add here. But let me say, I feel it is a little wrong you guys nominate Sins of the Saints for Best Game in the NSWRP. I wrote an OP (if you like it, it is nominated in the according category) and had . . . one update (will be two in an hour) . . . so it is far to early to even think about judging it. And some GMs out there made their game work for month, so I think they are the ones we should think about honoring.
Best New Game is a nomination I can proudly accept, but Best NSWRPF Game is really a little to much, is it?

Thanks for the love, anyway. Much appreciated. My nominees are . . .

Best GM:
1. Republic_Anvil/JediHighlander
(for Asylum, for the work on new concepts she has shown and for her work on SotS, which I find to be a great joy to me.)
2. master-of-les-pauls (for creating an instant success and what comes closest to a GAW heir, so far. Keeping their way of doing things around here alive. Which can´t have been easy. And actually I enjoyed reading it from time to time . . . which is something I rarely do.)

Best RPer:
1. Sir_Draco
(Adalric Brandl, Kol Skywalker, Jacen Cole and Melmot and the reptilian Darth Chalon. Rufus Jameson is back, too. It might have been his season as a GM, but as a player he is undervalued. A LOT! What a season he played. Loved how he made an "Old spice" commercial look like Shakespeare and his Kol Skywalker owning the GA single handed as well as him giving the first new Sith Interpretation in ages . . . by creating a classic Sith)
2. Sith-I-5 (for simply making me love, cry, angry and happy and all to often the same time :p)

Best Star Wars RPG:
1. Asylum
( A game players die for, my character took this literally and got offed by the fallen Luke Skywalker aboard his zombie horde filled darkest spacestation to ever show it´s ugly blood smeared walls in this board. Lovely.)
2. Intervention (Bravo has a fine-crafted story there with a lot of good ideas. His solid cast and excellent characters round it to one of our slow burning successes. A very skilled and fine story these guys spin there)

Best Non-Star Wars RPG:
1. A Bad Day in L.A. ~ An Action Adventure
(Draco´s game - even though I posted it - is Draco´s impressive debut as a GM. A system that has already begun to spread here without making great hype about it, a crazy funny franchise connection and some of the most creative set-pieces, plot-twists and action-setting we had lately Bad Day delivers, what it promises.)
2. I wish I had read more here, but I haven´t . . . so to be honest

Best New Star Wars RPG:
1. Tropical Terror
(I lurked a bit and I like the simple idea combined with a fine execution. A good entry, that will hopefully garner a little more attention over the next weeks.)
