Too easy... well not really. It was a great match!

Hayden just missed out on his 5th century in as many matches. We struggled a bit, Gilchrist's 24 was the steadier.

And how about the winning shot? 94 not out, and only needing 3 to win... Punter hits a six!

We're doing pretty well against the poms in the first test. Cairns had two wickets in the first over.

    End of day 1:
    Eng 228
    Hussain 106

    NZ 9/1

After Englands second innings, NZ now have two days to get 550.
I think winning is out of the question. The question is whether you guys can hold on for a draw?
    Doubtful.

After the fastest 200 in history, the Kiwis still lost the test. Their final innings was valiant, though.

And After Australia got 315 in their first innings, SA WERE 0/48, but now are 7/119.

    Amazing.

RSA got an ordinary 167 all out. But Australia are 2 for 19 in reply.

    What's doing?

Warne got another 3 wickets today. Some freaky full toss wickets too.

Congrats to New Zealand for putting up such a great fight.

The pitch is supposed to be good I think that SA just tried to copy Aus by attacking, and lost out. Aus in reply have attacked, and have also lost out.

They just need players to relax and hang around. The runs will come, but with over 3 days to go, there is absolutely no rush to get runs.

But on another note, the radio commentator was saying that there are rumours about one (or both) of the Waughs retiring, possibly after the Zimbabwe leg of the tour.
IMO, as great as they have both been, neither has performed well enough (for quite a while) to deserve their place in the team. HOWEVER, we saw Mark Taylor staying in the team well after he should have been out, simply because of his captaincy. As such, any moves to nudge the Waughs out would be pretty unfair.

I reckon Steve has a bit to offer. He's a fighter. Mark should go. And he probably saw the writing on the wall with his recent axeing from the ODI side.

Steve on the other hand has obviously had a falling out with officials. It'd be a shame if he retired becasue of that rather than when he wanted to.

Wow, Aus 8/158 at stumps. I gues if they can get to 200-odd, they will have a good lead for the 4th innings.

But still, given such a (seemingly) good pitch, thats a bad score.

I think we're gonna lose. We've got to get 6 wickets for about 70 to win.

    :(

Yeah, it looks bad...but we wont the war, regardless of whatever happens.

But we can put this down to pathetic batting...it was a good pitch, and the Aussies batted like a bunch of girly-boys.

    Tee Hee

Has to be the best batting display i've ever seen. He said he was hoping to get the target down to about 7-80 then work at getting the finally runs. You can imagine what parades there would have been though if he had done it, scoring 551 to win a test.

Looks like SA are upto their old tricks agains. :(

Oh well... we lost. 5 wickets.

That was a great innings by Astle. Pity we didn't get to see it...

OK, so two pieces of news.

Firstly Australia beat SA in the one dayer.

Secondly and most importantly, Ben Hollioake has passed away, after having a car accident in Perth this morning. Ben was born here, but played for Cricket for England, playing in 2 Tests and 20 one dayers

Wooh! That's a shocker. I didn't know he was tied to Australia like that? What type of accident was it? And was anyone else hurt? What injuries did he suffer?

The ODI in South Africa looked like an ordinary affair. I saw Australia's innings at the bar last night and with the exception of Jonty Rhodes' two dismals (flying catch and middle stump run out of Bevan), the whole thing was boring. But then the SAs went out and were worse? Well that'll do me.

Apparently he was in the car with a woman...it spun out of control and hit a brick retaining wall. The woman is alive but has bad injuries.

Yeah he had just finished the ODI's here in NZ then went to Aussie with his brother Adam to catch up with family before they went back to the UK. Ben was driving home from having dinner with his family followed by his sister in the car behind when he went off the road and crashed.
We found out at the cricket ground after the start of the third days play on Saturday. Some of the players had no idea until they got off the field for lunch.

    Sad.

I don't think we're playing that well either. We're doing enough, but hopefully we can score a big 300+ score and kill them in this series.

Hollioke's girlfriend is still in a critical condition. Apparently it's not too good.
