Back on topic...with the DFs, I dont know if Misc is a good place for them. Misc is meant for discussion of SW topics that dont fit into the other forums.

DFs arent SW topics. They are little clubs.

It was pushing it when you guys moved the social threads to misc. Now if this goes too, means that there isnt going to be much room for discussion of SW-related topics.

If its going to become a 2nd forum dedicated to socialising. Why not then just create a Social/DF forum, and put them in there? It will save the misc forum from being inundated with topics that arent really a discussion of SW stuff.

i think the creation of a new fourm for the defense forces would be great.

Perhaps a purely Defense Force related forum, Dagsy, but not a social forum. Community has already been drained of debates and stimulating conversation...all that is left are social theads. Take that away, and there won't be a community anymore - only the Senate Floor and DF/Social forum.

I dont mean normal social threads, I mean the ons that are currently located in Misc, like the Starbucks type threads that used to be located in movie forums.

If you mean Star Wars-related social threads, then, yes, they should be with the defense forces. However, why create a new forum when you could plonk them in 'Misc.'?

That would be creating a forum for what 10 threads? Its an idea, I don't know how feasible it is. It would almost be easier to put them in JCC.

But I don't know if its even something that would have to be done. So far, EUDF is the only group to bring this up. And even with this thread and the thread devoted to the EUDF, none of the other DFs have stepped and said, "we want to move too!" SO they may not be bothered the way that EUDF is. And we are currently talking about what to do with the EUDF.

If its just the EUDF, then its easy enough to deal with. I just dont think Misc should be bogged down with irrelevant threads, thats all.

I agree on that I don't think that the misc is the right place, but as DDH said, so far it is only the EUDF that has problems with its location.

well, i'm the creator of the SE defense force, & i've never been happy w/ the move and our new location. i haven't said anything before because it seemed to me that the admin's had made up their minds, but since it seems there's talk of moving the df's again, i wanted to voice my concerns.

I'd just like to say that that banning was uncalled for.

Oh, and to keep this on topic: impeccable, infallible update, my lords. A better than usual update, all discussions are right on the mark as far as I can see.

As for this week's discussions in the Mod Squad, may I suggest a new policy of contacting/emailing people that you banned for minor offenses? The one I committed was so miniscule and ridiculous that I didn't know why I was banned. I had to contact another moderator and ask how long and why I was banned.

So, it's not only courteous to tell a member why and how long they were banned for, it saves other moderators time. You'd have to draw the line somewhere--people that spam entire forums need no explanation, but for something as small as I did, I think it would be a decent policy to adopt.

Yah, really. After all, "FORCEBOAT" is just a code in the LucasArts game, Galactic Battlegrounds. So, are codes from officially released games now bannable offenses?

    ERIAMJH!

That's the "fly mode" cheat from Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II. Will I now be banned?

No, not unless you spam a thread with off-topic clutter after being given a warning to stop.

Communications is for serious discussion of the forums. Chats based on Games discussion belong in the Games forum. Frankly, I'm a bit surprised it took a couple of mod warnings and then a couple of 24-hour spanks to get this point across.

Still, good suggestion, Dan. I, for one, will try to make a habit of e-mailing people when I ban them.

    Thanks, ND.

My problem with the banning was that I didn't post after the warning was given, when several others did continue to spam--and they weren't banned. I just saw Bib's post, and posted FORCEBOAT!!! without reading the rest of the thread after the point when I left to do some other things in real life. I felt kind of singled-out for being the one banned, which annoyed me.

But no matter. I will forgive the Glorious One Who Banned Me if he plays me in JKII when he gets it!

I didn't receive any notification of why I was banned until one week after my ban. The day it ended, I was notified.

It is terrible to see this, first hand. Some Admin's really need to start doing their jobs.

Joel, you may not have received "Official" word, but we discussed the matter virtually every day of your banning. You weren't in the dark.

    Dan:

...without reading the rest of the thread

Next time, perhaps you should read the thread. There were several public warnings to stop. However, it is a good point you made about going the extra mile to email those that have been banned. I will make every effort to do so in the future. Apologies for that.

    Thanks guys.

And yeah, it's my fault that I didn't read the thread. And I did after I posted and saw the warning, but just shrugged it off. Oh well.

But why were the others not banned at all when they were the ones doing the exact thing you told them not to do?
